Sorry to hear of the passing of Alex. We first met when I went to MACPHERSON ACADEMY. In the early 1950s. We played Hockey and Soccer together and he was always after me to join the Anchorman group that he started. However, being a Military person and always moving around Canada I couldn’t make that commitment.

I still have the Soccer picture that Alex dropped off to my house when we won the City Junior Championship in the mid 1950s. The picture shows twelve players. Back row was Cyril Ivany, Harry Youden, Ernie Gallop, Chesley Rodgers, Howie Howell and Doug Chaulk. Front Row was Bob Chaulk,, Alex Andrews, Everett Dicks, Joe Rideout, Art Templeton and Jim Keats.
Many happy days were spent going to School on Newton Road and many Soccer practises were held on the rocky field in front of our school.
Playing Soccer Alex feared no competitor and if you ever got his boot on your shins you would be limping for many days.
Whenever we met after I retired and settled in StJohn’s We would have a chat about our school days when we were carefree and played Sports.
He never gave up on me joining the singing group in our later years but we had different priorities and my voice is not the same as it was during my School days..
Alex did a lot of nice things in his lifetime and I am proud to say that he was a friend to my Wife. and I
Alex my friend, Rest in Peace.

Lloyd and I send a message of deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Alec Andrews. Your happy memories will see you through this sad period. We enjoyed our little chat whenever we connected in Cupids.
May he rest in peace.

To all the family: Alec was a man of many talents and many passions. He has left a wonderful legacy and will be remembered fondly.

Barry, Elaine

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Alex. We meet 7-8 years ago through my work when I had to order some items from him. He was always so sweet and kind to deal with. The last time I saw him was just before Christmas, about 4-5 years ago. He dropped off our order and brought me a Christmas ornament. I still hang it on my tree each year and think of him. He was certainly a true gentleman and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Barry, Elaine and families. We were very sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I have fond memories of your father on Tobin Crescent.
He was skilled in many tasks and I recall him helping my father with some renovations in our basement when we were very young. He was a good guy!
Take care my friends
Randy Andersen and family

Elaine, Barry, and families,
Condolences on the passing of your Dad, Alex. I remember his friendly smile and good nature from our early years as neighbours on Tobin Crescent.

My father Bert enjoyed singing with Alex and friends in the Anchormen Chorus, and I know that they shared good memories from their time together.

In addition to song and sport, I remember that your Dad was a also skilled ‘home mechanic’ back in the time of carburetors, when you could ‘run diagnostics’ with a good ear. He kept the Chevy Vega in good running order, with the help of parts from the spare. Good memories 🙂

Thinking of you all.

Laurie and Wanda

Elaine, Barry, and families. So sorry to hear about your Dad. Another bright light has gone out. How well I remember him with summers on the pond. He always made you feel special, even if you were just a kid. And, he had a smile and a laugh for everyone. My heart goes out to you today. Memories are a wonderful thing.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Alex.
He was a gentleman and friend.
Alex sang in the Caboteers quartet with my father, Bill Squires, my Uncle Cal Squires and Don Murphy . They began barbershop singing with the Americans at Fort Pepperell. .
Years later my husband, Joe Ryan, was a member of The Anchorman Chorus with him. .
I know that Ellen’s passing was so difficult for Alex and he missed her deeply ,
I hope your memories of Alex will bring a smile to your face as you remember him.
He was a special person who will be missed by many.

To all family, we wish to extend our sincere condolences on the passing of Alex. He was a wonderful person for us to have known mostly through our involvement in curling at the St Johns Curling Club initially on Factory Lane . Even before knowing him we saw him and his long time friend Ken Ellis impress the fans. at the Halifax Brier in 1966 with their powerful synchronized corn broom sweeping . No one could top them at that curling skill. Rest In Peace friend Alex! God bless. Sam & Eleanor

I have missed Alex’s “long stride and a pivot” the last few years and will forever remember his presence at the curling rinks. Condolences to his Family. My friend will forever rest in peace.

Alex was a competitor to whose level of curling expertise I strived to achieve; although he may not have known it. Ever since competing against him in the late 70’s and early 80’s, I have endeavored to be as good as Alex at the front end of any curling team I was /am on.. God speed Alex.
