Obituary

It is with regret and sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Hand at Chancellor Park on April 21, 2021, aged 96 years. Alice was the daughter of the late Catherine (Malone) and Jack Maddigan. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband James Benedict Hand Sr.; by her sons James Benedict Hand Jr. and William Joseph Hand; as well as her sister Elizabeth (Comerford) Stamp and four brothers: Richard, Philip, Frank and Father John Maddigan.

She is survived by her children: Deborah Staley (James), Denise Hand, Leonard Hand (Christina), Barbara Byrne (Bob), Thomas Hand (Christine) and Frederick Hand (Marlene), her two daughters-in-law Margie and Margo Hand, and by her brother Ron.  She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Alice will always be remembered for her warm smile, her kind and generous nature, and her incredible devotion to family. She had a way of making each person in her presence feel special and always put the needs of others before her own.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Patrick O’Shea and the dedicated nurses and staff at Chancellor Park for their compassionate and loving care during her time there.

A Mass of Christian Burial will then be held on Saturday, April 24th, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions only immediate family members will be in attendance. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gathering Place.
