It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our quilting queen, our loving mom, grandmother, aunt and friend. Alice Curtis born October 27, 1940, passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, November 1, 2024. Awaiting Alice with a loving embrace is her husband, Francis.
Alice was an avid quilter and has made thousands of quilts over the years. She has done many wedding, Newfoundland and other beautiful quilts that have kept many people warm over the decades. She was always up for a game of cards and loved her Monday night bingo.
Alice is survived by her children Gerard (Lisa), Joan (John Butler), Shirley and Mark; her grandchildren, Kyle, Justin and Kelsea; her siblings Mary (late Gerald Kelly), Theresa (David Penney), Ann (late Raymond Finlay), Albert (Elizabeth) and Joan (Cecil Hayward).
She was predeceased by parents Alphonse and Isabelle; her sisters Catherine Finlay, Carmel Pennell, and Elizabeth Molloy.
As per mom’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be a funeral service held at the Holy Redeemer Church, on Church Drive in Trepassey, on November 8 at 1pm . Inurnment to immediately follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association of Newfoundland, in Alice’s honor.

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday, unseen, unheard,
but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.
Alice will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her spirit will live on in the
hearts of those she touched.

I always appreciated Alice and Francis’ visits with Mark- where I worked.
I built Mark’s wheelchairs for 30 years…..Alice always had an iron-clad agenda, for Mark….which included such comments as “this— will work….and THIS…will not”.
As the guy who created Mark’s wheelchairs for 30 + years, I always appreciated Alice’s opinions for “what suited Mark best”….
I pray for peace, for Alice (and Francis) but also for Mark………Mark Burton– is one of the luckiest men I have ever known …..his foster parents……were saints.
Joan, Shirley, Gerard and Mark and all family members, It’s never easy to lose someone you love especially a parent. Mrs Alice was a great woman and as mom often said she loved her game of cards, they had many great laughs. Mom will miss her dearly. May all the years of wonderful memories help ease your sadness and over time those memories will become a treasure you all will hold in your heart forever. May she rest in peace 🙏. Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy, Garry and Colleen. Hugs and deepest sympathy from our mom as well.
Sending our sincere condolences to all family and friends during this difficult time. May she rest in everlasting peace.

Sorry to hear of your mom’s passing . We got to know Alice as our quilt lady . We bought several quilts from her , as wedding gifts , Xmas and just for us to have ourselves . It was the same quilt of Newfoundland . We always asked for her name to go on the quilt because they have been given to people on the west coast of Canada and the United Stares . The quilts have brought tears to people’s eye when we gave them to everyone , even the young people. May all your memories stay close to your heart and never be forgotten .
Sincere Condolences to you all at this very difficult time. Cherish all the wonderful memories of your wonderful mom, sister and grandmother.
