With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Alma Osmond on October 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. We celebrate her remarkable 91 years of life, filled with kindness, humour and love.
Born on September 28, 1933, Alma lived a life full of love and devotion to her family. She is predeceased by her husband Fred, son Ian, and siblings Percy Vere-Holloway, Lillian Connors, Shirley Hiscock, and Max Vere-Holloway. She is survived by her beloved children, Andrea Walsh (Doug), Glenda Burfitt (Tom), and Heather Osmond Pike, as well as her chosen daughter Erin Dunne (Derrick Walsh) and daughter-in-law Peggy Osmond. Alma was a proud grandmother to Michael Burfitt (Carrie), Candice Pike Barry (David), Katelyn Pike (Raymond Murphy), Matthew Walsh, and Jeremy Osmond; step-grandchildren Jason Walsh and Janine Walsh; great-grandchildren Alastair and Henry; and step-great-grandchildren James, Jonathan, Ryan, and Kate.
Alma is also survived by her siblings Olga Bursey, Monya Driscoll, Harry Vere-Holloway (Sandy), Vicki Brace, Derek Vere-Holloway (Mary), and Karen Abbott (Keith), along with sisters-in-law Loretta Vere-Holloway, Jean Kearsey (Fred), and Ellie Canon, and brothers-in-law Ray Hiscock and Sam Osmond (Marg).
Throughout her life, Alma remained deeply connected to her extended family, nurturing special bonds with her siblings, cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She also cherished many close lifelong friendships. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and, most importantly, a welcoming heart and a cup of tea for anyone who visited.
A proud grandmother, Alma was endlessly supportive and loved sharing stories about her grandchildren, each of whom she adored. She took pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment she spent with them.
She also became known as “Grandma” to many other children over the years, caring for them all as if they were her own, leaving a lasting impact on many families who always remained close to her heart.
Some of Alma’s happiest times were spent at the family cabin, where she cherished both the quiet moments gardening and the lively gatherings with family and friends. Whether she was playing a game of cards or keeping the cabin spotless while Fred worked on his projects, the cabin was a place where memories were made and shared with those she loved most.
A woman with a fierce spirit, she was known for her sharp wit, warm heart, and unshakeable strength, right up until her final days. Alma will be remembered as a strong, beautiful, and loving woman who always put her family first. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is now at peace, reunited with her husband and son at their cabin in the sky.
A celebration of Alma’s life will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, with visitation on Thursday October 10 from 2:00-9:00, followed by a funeral service on October 11 at 2:00, and a private inurnment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Winslowe Ridge and the Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit for their exceptional care and support.

To the Osmond Family – I am so sorry to hear of “Grandma” Osmonds passing. “Grandma” and “Poppy Fred” always made me feel like one of their own. I still remember how special they made me feel, whether it was taking me to Ponderosa for my birthday, or taking me to the cabin with Katie and Candace, which felt like going to Disney. Over the last two years, since my own daughter was born, I have better come to understand the profound impact that “Grandma” had on our lives as children, and what a privilege it was to grow up in her care. We are so fortunate to have had her love and warmth in our lives and I am confident we all turned out to be better humans because of her! “No fussing and no whining!”
Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

To the Osmond family. We were so sad to hear of “Grandma’s” (as we called her) passing. Grandma and Poppy Fred were very special to our family. Our son, Matthew, who is now 29 was Grandma’s last child to care for. Myself and Paul always joked that we don’t think he would have turned out as good as he did if he didn’t have Grandma and Poppy Fred to look after him during the daytime (lol). I can still remember her saying “Matthew no wining and no fussing”! We were so lucky to have such wonderful and caring people in our lives. Your mom was one of a kind. Sorry for your loss. Cathy, Paul and Matt Nickerson.
Glenda, Heather, Andrea and families. Donna and I are saddened to hear that Alma has passed. We all have been friends for long time and we know she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.. We have lots memories to keep us comforted and one that comes to mind this time of year is when Fred and I grew our own vegetables up in country and had Thanksgiving dinner which Alma cooked and envited Dick and Mary and Benny and Margie. Although we had to buy salt beef and roast beef. May she rest in peace
