It is with profound sadness that the family of Dr. Ann Elizabeth Spracklin marks her untimely death on August 22nd, 2024, in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, at the age of 50.
Ann was the youngest child of Wayne Fisher Spracklin and Lynn Elizabeth (Brownrigg) Spracklin, and Grandchild of Bertram and Hilda (Clarke) Spracklin and Dr. Garrett and Ena (Winsor) Brownrigg. She was born and grew up in St. John’s Newfoundland, and attended St. Mary’s School, I.J. Sampson, and Bishop’s College.
Ann was an exemplary student, and amongst numerous scholarships, was named the Jubilee Scholar for NL in her last year of High School. After graduation with her Medical degree from Memorial University in 1998 at the age of 24, she relocated to Nova Scotia and began residency training in Diagnostic Radiology, at Dalhousie University, Halifax. She was granted Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in 2003, then moved to Lunenburg County, where she entered radiology practice at South Shore Regional Hospital. During her early career, she was involved in planning and deploying Nova Scotia’s first province-wide network for radiology images (the second of its kind in Canada).
In 2011, Ann was predeceased by her proud and loving father, an avid cross country skier, hiker, sailor, and general outdoorsman who herded us all ( including our dogs) out of doors together on weekends, summer and winter. She was also his eager and much appreciated early morning fishing, hiking and dog- walking buddy in every cove where we dropped anchor, and he was her most avid soccer fan.
Ann is survived by her mother, Lynn, and by her brother, Timothy Wayne Spracklin (Dana Jones) . The joyful, bright eyed , bushy- tailed, eager little girl who never lost her passion for exploring the wonders of the natural world, or her love of animals, especially her dogs, will be forever loved and sorely missed.
Cremation has taken place, and Ann’s ashes will be interred privately alongside her Grandma and Grandpa Brownrigg, to be joined by her Mother when the time comes.
Flowers are gratefully declined, but if you feel so inclined, donations to SHAID (shaidanimalshelter.com) of which Ann was a long time supporter; or Memorial University of Newfoundland or other charity of your choice, will be appreciated.

Very sorry to hear of Ann’s tragic passing.. She was brilliant, accepted to med school 2 years earlier than most of us in her class, and excelled nonetheless. She will be remembered for her ever-present smile.
So many patients surely benefitted from her work over the course of her career. Such a loss.
Wishing your family some peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Dear Lynn, Tim and family,
Very shocked when mum passed on this sad news to me this week. What a terrible thing to happen, I am so sorry for your loss of Ann, who clearly had excelled in many things over the years. Mostly I remember her as a very young child, when I babysat her and Tim years ago, lots of running around in your backyard.
Thinking of you all at this very sad time, Diana

Dear Ann was a coworker and a wonderful human being. We spent some good times together in Bridgewater. I will miss her always.
Mrs. Spracklin & Tim –
I wanted to offer my condolences for Ann’s passing. I’d like to share a story about when we were in school.
Many of my classes between grades 7-12 were with Ann. I distinctly remember my very first impression of her. It was in Miss Willis’ grade 7 social studies class. We had just been integrated into IJ Samson and exposed to these “new” students from St Mary’s. I was from Cowan Heights. This was literally our first class after coming in and finding our assigned seats. I’d just met her. Ann’s seat was at the very back of the room and I was in the next row over, one seat ahead of her. Anyway, Miss Willis started asking questions about some social studies chapter in the textbook. “Does anyone know the answer?” This girl’s voice starts from the back of the room. She answers the first question. Then the second. The next question comes and the voice answers again. I turn my head and look over. Here’s Ann in the back with her head looking straight down at the textbook, raising her right hand up as enthusiastically as she can, responding to miss Willis’ inquiries, flipping pages back and forth running the index finger of her left hand across the text. Reading ahead and figuring it all out. Answering all the questions before the rest of the class even got started. Right from the jump Ann was way out ahead, and the rest of us weren’t even in gear. That’s pretty much how we spent the next six years. At IJ and then Bishops’.
I lost touch with her beyond first year MUN after she went across the road to medical school. But thinking back through those grade school years I feel lucky for her to have been a part of that experience.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Godspeed Ann.

I am so saddened by this news. Ann and I shared the same birthday, starting life in adjoining rooms at St. Clare’s hospital, then meeting countless times over the years, as friends and competitors in sport and academics, ultimately choosing similar career paths as Radiologists. I will remember all the fond memories I have of Ann over the years, on the soccer field, in the classroom and at MUN. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

I am so terribly shocked to hear this news.
Ann was a valued academic colleague and friend through my school years. We met in grade 7.
As I write this, I can absolutely picture her handwriting… always so immaculate, a worthy manifestation of her brilliant mind. She and I kept each other on our toes.
I always admired her so much and was in awe of her abilities and her kindness.
