Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Anthony “Tony” Denis Hann from St. John’s, NL, formerly from Merasheen, Placentia Bay.

Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Mary (Wilson) Hann and two infant brothers, Gerard and Gerard and parents-in-law, Stephen and Elizabeth Meade.

Left to mourn with loving and cherished memories, his daughter Charlotte (Glen), his son Trevor and their mother Mary Hann and his daughter Candace Ennis. Also mourning him is his cherished granddaughter Jessica, “Pops Angel” (Andrew). Left with fond and loving memories are his sisters, Loretta (Tony), Sylvia (Eddy), Vivian (Carl), Georgina (Tony), Jeannie and Mary (Don); his brothers Patrick (Anne), Raymond (Gail), Johnny (Sandra), and Father William Hann; his many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and other relatives, as well as a large circle of friends.

Tony loved spending time in the outdoors. On his daily walks around the city including one of his favourite places, the Harbour Front, he loved to stop and chat with all. He enjoyed sports both as a participant and a spectator. Countless hours were spent in the arenas and ballparks watching amateur sport. He was eleven when he received his first subscription to Sports Illustrated. Tony was a regular skater at The Loop. He was an avid reader. He was a hard worker and his experience various. His giving nature was always available when work needed to be done. He gave generously of his time as a proud volunteer at the food bank. For Tony, it was always the simple things in life that he savoured.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date when COVID-19 regulations allow family and friends to attend. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.carnells.com.

“In our hearts you will always stay, loved and remembered every day.”

To Father Bill and the Hann family, my prayerful support is with you at this time. I am just hearing about Tony’s death this week. I met Tony every Saturday at the Basilica for the 5 p.m. Mass. We always had an opportunity to have a little chat as I was on the Hospitality Committee at the back of the church. I’m sure this is a very stressful time to lose a loved one as we cannot celebrate their life as we would want to. Father Bill, would love to hear from you. Sister Margie Taylor

So sorry to hear of Tony’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

His journey’s just begun
by Ellen Brenneman

“Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.

And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.”

Rest In Peace Bro
