Archibald (Arch) Mercer Janes

September 6, 1930 to February 4, 2022

Obituary

Passed peacefully away at his home in Paradise having a nap in his favorite chair, Arch Janes, aged 91 years.

Predeceased by his wife of 70 years Dulcie Janes in June 2021. His parents Maude and Ambrose Janes, sister Louise, (Bob Noseworthy) sister-in-law Marion Janes, mother and father-in-law in law Norman and Annie Stone, sisters-in-law Doris Stone and Minnie Goodyear and great grand-niece Suzanne Strong.

Left with a lifetime of loving memories his daughters Doris Janes (Clare MacAulay) and Beverley Janes (Bruce Roberts); grandchildren Morgan Roberts (Tyler Waugh) and Alex Roberts; great-grandchildren Gabe and Walker; brothers Willis Janes (June), Bill Janes (Naomi), Ralph Janes (Ros) and Don Janes (Gloria), brothers-in-law Mel Strong (Catherine), Lorne Stone (Joanne), and a large circle of extended family and friends who were like family.

Arch was a proud 37-year veteran of the St. John’s Fire Department retiring at the Rank of Captain. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was well known for his ability to fix anything and it was often said if Arch cannot fix it then take it to the dump. His commitment to Public Service extended beyond the Fire Hall as he served as Councilor and Mayor of Paradise. He loved many things, weekends at the cabin in Ocean Pond, a good game of poker and gatherings with family and friends. He is now reunited with the love of his life.

The family would like to give special thanks to his longtime Physician Dr. David Hart who provided such wonderful care to Dad over the years.

The family would also like to thank dear friends Jean Hall and Elizabeth Bidgood for their comfort and support.

Doris, Beverley., your families and extended families:
I was so saddened to hear of Arch’s passing. The Griffiths family and Janes family goes back many years and there are so many good times that come to mind along with many tragedies as well.. The families on Topsail Rd., Paradise were very close and everyone pulled together to help each other when needed. Our parents and children were all great friends and spent time at each other’s houses . We were always welcomed into the Janes home to just sit and chat or for birthday parties and always lots off treats. As a very good friend of Doris and Beverley in our early days, I send my condolences to you both and all the family at this difficult time.. RIP Arch Janes.. May you Rest In Peace.
