Obituary

Passed peacefully away at home in the loving arms of his daughter Heather on Friday, June 3rd. Arthur Charles Cook, age 99 years. Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Gertrude Cook; loving wife, Violet (2000); brothers, Ronald and Clarence; sisters, Winifred, Ethel, Allison, Edith, Olive; sisters-in-law, Lottie and Olive; brothers-in-law Gerald Summers, Maxwell Duffett, Jim Kerwin, Gus Haynes, and Michael Gladney.

Leaving to mourn with precious loving memories his daughter Heather with whom he resided; sister Gertrude (Gladney), brothers-in-law Joe Quinn, John Poole (Margaret); as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, and friends.

Arthur spent the early years of his life growing up on the family farm on the White Hills. Later he became a dedicated working partner with Cook Brothers Transport Ltd. In his many years in the trucking industry, he was privileged to have gained a large network of friends who meant so much to him. Arthur enjoyed doing the things he most liked, being outdoors taking care of his daughter’s lawn and garden, making sure everything was mint condition in and outside of the home. The loved to cook and was especially good at making his own cookies and cakes. He also loved trout fishing, especially with his buddies Terry and Barb in Terra Nova. The also enjoyed lots of good times with family and friends in his trailer at Max’s Place on Hodge Water Line. Arthur was a man of faith. For many years he served as a sidesman at St. Thomas Anglican Church, and was a longstanding member of the Masonic Fraternity in St. John’s. A kind and gentle man, Arthur will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his loving daughter Heather, and his furry pet dog “Abby”, as well as his many close friends who knew and loved him.

At Arthur’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at Carnell’s Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Road, Thursday, June 9 from 10AM-12 o’clock none noon followed by a service of Celebration and Thanksgiving at the Carnell Memorial Chapel at 2:00PM. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. No flowers by request but donations in his memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice

So sorry to hear of Art’s passing. I recall back in the 70’s delivering furniture with him on Saturday’s. they were the good old day’s. as I recall. We worked hard but always got the job done.
