Obituary
Passed peacefully at Pleasant View Towers in St. John’s, on January 7, 2025, Barbara (Barb) Anne Hefferton (née Nugent), age 74.
Barb was born and raised in her beloved Corner Brook, where she lived until moving to St. John’s with her husband, Harold, after their marriage in 1969. Barb was known and cherished for her warm spirit and dedication to her family and was joyous, fun-loving, and caring. A “Miss Corner Brook Royals” in her teens, she continued to light up every room she entered with her smile, consummate style, and welcoming personality. She loved to laugh, dance, and was often found singing “Mussels in the Corner” to her grandchildren whom she adored. Barb loved travelling the world, and then returning home to be welcomed by her treasured children, grandchildren, and pets. Barb also enjoyed quiet reflection and was an accomplished cross stitcher, with many of her beautiful pieces displayed proudly in her family’s homes.
Predeceased by her parents Mary (née Crane) and Jack Nugent, her parents-in-law Rita (née Butler) and Bernard Hefferton, her brother John, brother-in-law William (Bill).
Leaving to mourn, but sharing many wonderful years of beautiful memories, are her husband of 55 years Harold; daughter Mary Beth (Jason Sweeney); son Stephen (Rebecca) and grandchildren Harrison, Ava, and Abigail; sister and best friend Patricia (Pat); sister Sandra; sisters-in-law Helen, Barb, Bernice, and Donna; and many family and friends both near and far.
Cremation has taken place and details of visitation and services will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barb’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of NL or the SPCA of St. John’s.
