Obituary

The service for the late Bernadette Somerton will be livestreamed through the St. Lawrence Anglican Church – Facebook Page.)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister Bernadette, aged 70 years, of Portugal Cove, surrounded by the love of her sister on Boxing Day. She was the best sister, daughter, sister in law, aunt and friend. Bernie lived a solitary life but very much enjoyed when her closest friends would drop by for the largest of laughs.
Predeceased by her parents Edmund and Gertrude Somerton, baby brother Edmund, grandparents Rueben & Louise Somerton, sister in law Wanda Somerton, aunt & uncle Madge & Mack McDonald and special neighbours Tolson and Margaret Churchill.
Bernadette leaves to mourn her devoted sister Holly Somerton who cared for her, her entire life, brother Gary.
Bernadette also leaves her special group of friends, some of whom have been with her a lifetime and others who came into her heart later in life. Her second family of sisters, Enid, Colleen, Cindy & Peggy, their children,( Vanessa, Morgan, Darcy, Riley & Daxon) Tammy, Noelle, Mrs. Dicks, Ruth, Sherry, Angus and Rosiland, Butch and Betty Lou Churchill and family, Doug and Marilyn McDonald, Arlene and Rick Martin and family, John and Angela McDonald and family. All of whom she thought so much of for the time they gave and she loved each with her whole heart.
Bernadette was a very kind and generous person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends and her two fur babies Bell and Willow.
A special thank you to Dr. Morkar and all the nurses of the HSC 4NB who took special care of Bernadette on her last few days.

Visitation will be held at Carnell’s funeral home on 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday January 1st from 12-8 p.m. A service will be held on Saturday January 3rd 2026 at 1 p.m at the St. Lawrence Anglican Church in Portugal Cove.  (Note:  The service will be livestreamed through the Church’s Facebook Page.)
