Beverley (Bev) Ann Janes (nee Williams)

November 17, 1950 to May 11, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Beverley (Bev) Ann Janes (nee Williams) on May 11th, 2024, at age 73. Bev was predeceased by her dear husband Colin, parents Myrtle & John Williams, in-laws William (Bill), Hilda, Allan, Brian and Errol Janes, and special auntie, Laura Williams.

Leaving to mourn are daughter Laura (Jonathan), son Michael; sisters Bernice Cole and Betty Williams;  sisters/brothers-in-law Derek and Heidi Janes, Debby Janes, Joanne Janes, and Brian Cole; nieces Ann Marie Keats (Clayton), Lori Cole (Gary) and Melanie Lake (Jason); nephews Steve Cole (Sheryl), Brian Janes, and Matthew Janes (Sandra); many cousins including Mona (Peter), Carolyn (Jeff) & Andrew; and the apples of her eye, grandsons Jack and Daniel, whom she cherished deeply and spent as much time with as she could. She will be also missed by her large circle of friends & colleagues from nursing, curling, golf, bridge, birthday girls, games night girls, book club and recently, choir.

Bev was born in St. Catharine’s, Ontario, but always called Newfoundland home, having spent many summers visiting family in Pool’s Cove, Fortune Bay. She became a registered nurse, graduating from MUN with a Bachelor of Nursing, attaining a Masters in Education later in life. Bev worked in various nursing roles, became an accomplished nursing educator, and worked on the accreditation of several nursing schools across Canada.

Upon retirement, Bev continued to apply her nursing skills. She lovingly cared for her husband, Colin, during his five-year illness. We are all comforted knowing they are now together again. Upon her own cancer diagnosis, Bev demonstrated courage and resilience, knowing she was in the best of hands from all her medical experience. The family thanks all the doctors, nurses and other support workers who helped her, especially Dr. Neveu and the amazing staff at the cancer centre.

We are heartbroken and she will be missed deeply. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom/Bev.

I’ll love you forever,

I’ll like you for always,

As long as I’m living

My Mom you’ll be.

So sorry to hear the sad news of Bev’s passing. We attended PWC together and both of us worked at the S.A.Grace Hospital for many years. I saw Bev just a few months ago and had a brief chat. In typical Bev fashion she expressed more concern over my well-being and only casually mentioned that she had been unwell. Bev was such a kind, caring woman and one whose smile could light up any room. She will be greatly missed!
My sincere condolences to all Bev’s family.

Beautiful tribute of all the things Bev loved and how she is loved. If life is measured by quality of time, the Janes family hits it out of the park. People remember how you made them feel. And Bev and Colin always made me feel welcome, fed (toutons or do without in) and cared about. Their legacy – Laura, Michael, Jack & Daniel and hundreds of family and friends who are family… you got it right Bev. Love you – you and Colin are missed something fierce.

So very sorry to hear of Bev’s passing. She was a lovely person – devoted to her family, and dedicated to her profession. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. RIP, my dear friend.

It was just a few weeks ago that Bev attended our band concert Under the Whale at the Core Sciences Building. She always enjoyed attending concerts and other shows, and she said she had been wanted to see the Whale. IAt the time, I thought it was so cool that she had been able to do that and listen to music at the same time. I asked her what her favorites for the night were, and she said without hesitation, Cape St. Mary’s and Shenandoah. God bless.
