Brenda Marlene Humphrey (nee Towns)

Brenda Marlene Towns, also known as Marmalade or Marmaduke by her sisters, was born in Hillsdale, Ontario to Andrew Frank Towns and Florence Phoebe Helena (Gennoe) Towns. She married Donald George Currie of Cambridge, Ontario and together they had three children, Tania, Donald and Archie. Brenda was a proud mother-in-law to Greg, Kaitlin and Christine and the very proud grandmother to Emma, Alissa, Holly, Abby, Tyler, Donald, Hannah and Eric. Brenda was the loving partner to Roland Giles for thirteen years.

Sisters: Betty Kells, Marion Reeve and Lynn Towns, Theresa Currie, Brothers Ken Towns, John Kells, Joe Armas, Jim Currie, Donald Currie- First Husband, Nieces: Rikki-Lee Brock and Cassandra Morris.

She leaves to mourn; Roland Giles-husband, Daughter Tania and family, Greg (husband), Emma and Duncan, Alissa and Breyden, Holly and Curtis, Son Donald and family, Kaitlin (wife), Donald, Hannah and Eric, Son Archie and family, Christine (wife), Abby and Devon, Tyler, remaining sisters and brothers, family and friends in Ontario and Newfoundland

Brenda had a passion for feeding others and was always ready and willing to bake for you, anything from cookies to tarts and pies. You could be guaranteed to have flour from one end of the kitchen to the other. She was fortunate to have Roland as her kitchen helper as he would clean up the mess behind her, and her response was always the same, get out my kitchen and let me be. You could say Roland was her sous chef.

Brenda and Roland were day trippers and enjoyed drives and picnics, stopping at places like Bay Bulls and Petty Harbour, anywhere she could dip her feet in the water. Brenda loved the sound of the waves and often said “she could live here right listening to the sound of the waves crashing”. We believe it was the sound of the ocean waves crashing that drew Brenda to Newfoundland in 2010. She was offered a job transfer through DHL/Loomis and had to choose between Alberta and Newfoundland. We thought she naturally would have chosen Alberta, as that is where her youngest son Archie and his family live. We were surprised when she chose St. John’s, now we know why. She fell in love with ocean; she fell in love with Roland and met some great friends and fell in love with her church family.

Brenda’s heart will always live here in Newfoundland and her spirit of giving will continue in those who knew her. Every person we have talked to says the same thing, “she was the strongest person they knew”.

Brenda, your fighting spirit and passion for giving to others will continue to shine through to your family and friends.

We love you and know that you are reunited with your family, especially your baby sister and partner in crime and we will sit together again at his table.
