Brendan Barry Clarke

August 13, 1962 to August 28, 2025

Obituary

Passed in peace and comfort in the presence of his wife and siblings on August 28, 2025.

Barry is predeceased by his loving parents Brendan and Bernice Clarke, and his sister Rena, who will greet him at heaven’s door in God’s heavenly kingdom. Also predeceased by his grandparents, and a large number of relatives from the Clarke and Chafe families.

Barry will be dearly missed by his wife of 29 years, Violet and his siblings Karen, Dale (Boyd), Sandra (Jeff), Bobby (Elizabeth), Gwen (Paul) and 9 nieces, nephews and one great niece.

Barry grew up in his beloved Petty Harbour, where he spent many years as a young boy cutting out tongues, then on to working in the fish plant, and his final joy fishing until the fishery ended in 1992. He never forgot his roots in “The Harbour” and was very nostalgic of his time living there. On many occasions, he reminisced of different happenings there and told the stories with joy and a smile. Since then, Barry has had many laborious jobs where he worked very hard and willingly until he could no longer work.

Barry was there to help anyone and everyone. He will be remembered for his skill at filleting fish with precision, and his love of cooking a good fish stew, and Jiggs Dinner.

He will also be remembered for his strength. He was able to hold up the end of a truck while someone changed a tire on it. Barry also showed great strength in the last days at Palliative Care. There would be no surprise to see him house cleaning on the unit or making sandwiches at 2 in the morning for any hungry mouth that wondered into the kitchen. He took great pride in going shopping just days before his last breath was taken. Once he got into the motorized wheelchair there was no stopping him.

Cremation has taken place, and a funeral service will be held at Carnell’s Memorial Chapel on Tuesday September 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. all are welcome.

A very special thank you and highest praises to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of the Palliative Care Unit,
who took such excellent care of him and displayed so much compassion to his wife, and siblings.

My God, I’m so sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. I remember him being at the house just hanging out having a ‘yarn’ with Dad (grandda). I’m so happy I got to speak with him a few weeks ago. He sounded so strong and we reminisced about when he would be at our house. We lost contact over the years but we never stopped loving one another. He was a great man and will be missed by many. God Rest His Soul.
