Ella, Laura and Heather – I was so saddened to read of Carl’s death. Ella, it was only a little while ago (okay, maybe a year) when I ran into you and we were chatting about all things family. I remember one time you told me about Carl coming home with flowers for you, and I thought, “He’s a keeper!” Please know I’m holding you in my heart as you grieve. Peace to you all.

We were so shocked to read about Carl’s passing! Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time. The funeral service was wonderful. Carl was surely looking down and very proud of his daughters’ eulogy. I could also envision him at the reception, looking down at all the people who came to pay tribute to his accomplishments in life and very proud of his family celebrating his life at the reception. I am sure he approved your efforts.
Stay strong. Keep your memories close and find comfort in them. Reach out when you need company. We are only a phone call away. Take care.

Ella, Laura, Heather and family, my sincere condolences to you on the loss of Carl. He was certainly one of a kind, and his sense of humour and story telling will be missed.. My favourite memory of him is when he came to Regina, Saskatchewan to watch the curling Briar and of course Gushue won in the finals! Carl was having so much fun and was so proud of his homeland, when he pulled out the huge Newfoundland flag you couldn’t help but join in the festivities and help him hold it up for everyone to see. He will be missed.
Sending love from Saskatchewan, Louise, Conor and Olivia
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Ella and Carl. We are proud to have known Carl as our friend. Dear Ella, Heather, Laura, Jackie and Families
We are sending the sincerest of condolences on Carl’s recent passing. He was a great friend and we will certainly miss him.
He and I not only share the same first name, but the same birthday (although not the same birth year). I will miss his annual e-mail birthday greetings.
Speaking of e-mails, my e-mail account is currently experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms without its normal quota of Carl’s numerous e-mails!!
He certainly had a very unique personality, and the annual “Rabbit Trip” will never be quite the same again without Carl in attendance.
Sorry that we will be unable to travel to St. John’s for the funeral., but please know that you will all be in our thoughts and prayers.
Take care, and we hope to see you in the not too distant future. God Bless.

I was quite shocked to hear of the passing of my Friend, Carl Strong. My warmest condolences to his Wife, Ella, his Daughters, Heather and Laura, and all of Carl’s Family. I first encountered Carl (and his Friend Tex) while they were rambunctious university students at the Baseball Parks in both St. John’s and Corner Brook. They later became good Friends and two of the finest gentlemen I have known. Carl was a fellow member of the St. John’s Curling Club. After curling in the Brier, Carl went on to make a tremendous contribution to the Curling Club and over the years kept me aware of major events involving the Club. Carl also was active with the Guards Athletic Association, bringing Curling to the Guards and becoming longtime Secretary, Chairman and Honourary Member of the Guards. My third major connection to Carl was through Ella’s Family, the Hanns, who were Family Friends. I remember on several occasions as a young boy visiting Corner Brook with my Parents and staying with Edith (Hann) and Warren, Jim and Jean Dawe, and visiting Vic, Marion and Linda Hann, as well as other Family members. I regret that I have not yet found out how that friendship between the two Families came about. I will miss Carl’s visits at my home to share news about our common interests. I will now be more easily able to manage my computer storage, but I will miss doing so.
My Son, Neil, joins me in extending our sincerest sympathies to Ella, Heather, Laura and all of Carl’s Family and Friends.

You know I loved Carl, even though we did not see each other face to face too often in recent years. Like many of his friends, I was in touch with him daily as part of his email following. We often exchanged emails including this past week – and I know now why he did not respond. Wow. We have many great memories of a good friendship extending back 45 years and as good acquaintances even longer – 50 plus years ago we shared meals together at Fred and Judy’s home. Carl was my varsity coach for 5 years in the 70’s , and my curling teammate for 5 years in the 80’s. We travelled a lot together and he was such good company. what fun we had. He left a positive mark on many – a generous kind soul who will be so missed by friends and family. I am away so regrettably will miss the visitation and funeral. My sincere sympathies to you. Not only was Carl our Director, he was our Leader, our Mentor and true Friend. As our work careers changed I could always depend upon Carl to reach out and keep in touch, either through his cheerful emails, to brighten your day or a personal visit on his way to or from his cabin in Kona Beach. Ella, Heather, Laura, and Jackie and all your families,
We are so saddened to learn of Carl’s sudden passing. He will be missed by many, near and far.
When I moved to Ottawa many years ago, cousin Carl stayed in touch via email and always passed along family news, humorous accounts and other stories from home. He always brought a smile to my face despite his distance – just as he did for those with whom he worked and played.
Carl’s sense of fun and genuine interest in people was clear from the time when I was young. My father and I would often drop in on uncle Howard to head out for a drive and I would often see Carl (and Jackie) during these visits. Carl’s ready smile and welcoming presence was something I’ll always remember. Later, I would encounter him from time to time at various curling activities and his enthusiasm for the sport was always on full display. He passed this love on to his daughters, and his pride in them and love for his whole family was clear to anyone who heard him speak of them.
In the hard days to come, Joan and I wish you strength and know that you will take comfort in your memories together. You have our very heartfelt deepest sympathies.
Ella, Heather, Laura and Kate, thinking of you all at this very difficult time as you mourn the passing of your beloved husband and father. May the many memories shared together be a source of comfort in the days and years to come. Keith and Sharon Dawe and family.
Ella and family,
Our sincere condolences to all of you who have lost a great husband and father.
I last saw Carl at the Brier in 2017. He was the same as when I knew him in the 70’s and 80’s:: lots of laughter and reminiscing.
We will miss his huge personality.
Bob & Sue Rowe
A great guy, a pleasure to work with. I am sorry for your loss.
Ella, Heather & Laura
Carl has been part of my life almost as long as I can remember – through school, sports, good times and bad, and just being friends..
He was a big man with a big personality and he was relentless in his efforts supporting the many causes that were important to him. He was also the glue that kept his very extensive network of friends together, doing more than anyone else to keep in touch and know what was happening in their lives. If you wanted to know where someone was or what they were doing, Carl was your best resource.
It was unfortunate that he died on his and Ella’s 52nd anniversary – but it was also a significant milestone that not many people achieve these days. Carl loved his family and supported them in whatever they were involved in.
He was one of a kind. We will miss him. But we also have wonderful memories of the part he played in our lives and we are grateful for that.
Dear Jackie: so sad to hear of Carl’s passing. Please accept my deepest condolences 💐
Ella, Heather and Laura,

So very sorry for your loss!

Ella, Laura and Heather … My deepest condolences on Carl’s passing. I knew him for many years as I worked with him in the Provincial government. He was my boss for a number of years. He was always a jovial fellow even into his retirement. When I moved to Mount Pearl, he wasn’t long scouting out where I lived and thus began many more years of his dropping by to sell me a ticket. We always had a chat and caught up on the news. He will be missed by many. Stay strong and let the memories of days gone by get you through the difficult days ahead.
My deepest condolences to Carl’s family. I met Carl in the 60’s in Corner Brook when he coached us in minor baseball and reacquainted with him in competitive curling at St. John’s curling club in the 80’s. he was a fantastic person and will be missed.
Rest in Peace Carl
Our deepest condolences to Ella, Heather, Laura, Kate, and Danielle on Carl’s passing.. May your memories of your family time together bring you comfort and sustain you all through this difficult period.
