Charlotte Seymour (née Ivany) passed peacefully away at the remarkable age of 96, surrounded by the love of her family.
Leaving to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are her children and their families: Trudy Bradbury (Bill, Billy (Nicole), and Janine); Nelson (Carol, Craig (Maria), Kristyne (Joe), and Chad (Melissa); Wade (Connie, Cody, and Keegan); and Glen (Nadine, Regan, and Jenna). She also leaves her treasured great-grandson, Anthony; her brothers, Ches (Bobby) and Hubert; her sister-in-law, Freda; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives she touched throughout her long and meaningful life.
Charlotte was predeceased by the love of her life and devoted husband, Solomon; her parents, Orlando and Florence Ivany; her brothers, Stephen (Jesse) and Whitfield (Florence); her sister, Molly (Sam); her brothers-in-law, Bert, Cal, Jack, Jack, and Ches; and her sisters-in-law, Violet, Mary, Maxine, and Yvonne.
Born in the now-resettled community of Ivanhoe, Charlotte’s independent spirit revealed itself early. At just 14 years of age, she left home and moved to St. John’s to continue her education while working. Although her career started as a teacher in Quidi Vidi, her greatest life’s work began when she met Solomon. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family.
Charlotte loved her family fiercely and was the beloved matriarch of the Seymour family. She found great joy in caring for those she loved. The kitchen was her happy place, where the aroma of freshly baked bread and home-cooked meals welcomed everyone who walked through the door. No one ever left her table hungry, no matter the hour, and it was not unusual for Charlotte to prepare a meal late into the night for family gathered around her.
She was also known for her endless energy and determination. If inspiration struck at one o’clock in the morning, that was simply the perfect time to start painting a room. Her home reflected her warmth, pride, and generous spirit.
Some of Charlotte’s fondest memories were those spent “up on the road,” sharing late-night meals with Solomon, her brothers, and the boys while watching Hockey Night in Canada. Those simple evenings, filled with food, conversation, and laughter, became treasured family traditions.
An avid reader with a curious mind, Charlotte always kept up with current affairs. She enjoyed discussing the news of the day and loved hearing everyone’s opinions around the table. She believed good conversation was as important as a good meal.
Nothing brought Charlotte greater pride than her grandchildren. Whether it was a soccer or hockey game, a dance recital, graduations or another special milestone, she was always there to cheer them on. She never arrived empty-handed, making sure there were flowers or a few dollars to recognize their hard work and accomplishments. Simply put, Mom Seymour always showed up.
As the years slowed her pace, they never diminished her love of family. She treasured time spent together, listening to the boys play guitar, singing along with her children and grandchildren, and celebrating Christmas mornings surrounded by those she loved whenever she was able.
Charlotte’s greatest legacy is the family she nurtured with unconditional love, quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering generosity. She taught us that the simplest moments, a warm meal, a welcoming home, a song shared together, or simply showing up for one another, are often life’s greatest gifts.
She had a beautiful laugh that could brighten any room, and while our hearts are heavy with her passing, we will forever be grateful for the love she gave so freely. We will miss hearing that laugh, gathering around her table, and feeling the warmth of her presence. Her memory will live on in every family meal, every Christmas morning, every song, and every act of love we share with one another.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff of Hillcrest Estates, Chancelor Park -The Morgan), the Health Sciences Center, St Clares Mercy Hospital and Pleasantview Towers (2 North West and 2 South West), in particular, Dr. Neil Young and Dr. Essaji who supported and cared for mom in years past and during her recent illness.

Trudy, Nelson and family. So sorry for your loss. I loved your mom who I met when I was Recreation Director at Hillcrest. Charlotte was not only a woman….she was a lady. I loved spending time with her and our many chats together when she would be in the Living Room waiting to go into her meals and at other intervals throughout the day. Charlotte was a beautiful woman, inside and out. I feel privileged to have known her and to have been a part of her life for a season.

Trudy (and family) I offer my deepest condolences for the passing of your mother. Let our thoughts and prayers be with the family at this most difficult time. Keep your mom close to your hearts as she makes her eternal journey to be with our Father in heaven. It is a heavy loss when a life comes to an end but know that the next life journey will be with our God. As Jesus told us, in His Father’s house there are many rooms and He has gone there to prepare a place for us. In Christ, Douglas.
