Obituary

Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, after a lengthy illness, Clara Coultas aged 87 years. Clara was born on Fair Island, Bonavista Bay. Upon the passing of her mother, Frances Pickett, Clara went to live with Minnie and Llewellyn Brown, who raised her as their own; but moved to St. John’s as a young woman to pursue a career in nursing. Ending her career as Director of Nursing at the Children’s Rehab in St. John’s. Clara enjoyed many camping trips through her lifetime with good friends Maxine and Charles Bursey. She very much enjoyed the holidays she spent in Florida until her failing health kept her from returning. Clara’s love for her son Leslie, and her grandson Joshua was clearly evident to all who knew her. She enjoyed the times spend at their home with daughter in law Karen also. She is predeceased by her husband Bursell; grandson Zachary Strong; and siblings Walter Jr., Ash, David and Josephine. Leaving behind with loving memories her son Leslie (Karen); grandson Joshua; siblings Frances Cutler, George Cutler (Daphne), Janet Moulton (Cecil), Rhyna Cutler (Ian), Joe Cutler (Marilyn) and Janet Cutler; and longtime friend Maxine Bursey; also a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thank you to the staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, especially the nursing staff of 3 East/West; with special thanks to Nurse Gina Elliott, for their kind and compassionate ways shown towards mom. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday July 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place from Gower Street United on Wednesday July 19 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
