Clarissa Jane Stevenson (Keeping) RN

August 31, 1927 to April 18, 2023

Obituary

Born on Sagona Island, Fortune Bay on August 31st, 1927, our beautiful Mom passed peacefully on April 18th, 2023.

Predeceased by her husband Charles, parents Clarence and Margaret Keeping, her sisters Phoebe, Nita, Dorcas, Sadie, and her brothers Clarence and Stanley.

Lovingly remembered by her children, Charlene MacLaughlin (Pat), Susan Stevenson (Shawna), Scott Stevenson (Hélène); grandchildren, Mark (Lorena) and Stephen Bishop, Jennifer, Thomas and Grace Stevenson, Margaux, William and Loulou Loptson; her dear sister Shirley Burgess; nieces, nephews and her family of friends at the Masonic Park, Tiffany Village and beyond.

A proud graduate of the General Hospital School of Nursing – Class of ‘49, Clarissa continued her love of learning and caring for others throughout her work life at the General and Janeway hospitals.

Mom was a beautiful blend of kindness and strength, loving unconditionally and always setting a positive example on living a good and healthy life. An avid bridge player, lover of reading and learning, Mom’s curiosity led to endless exploration on her iPad and interesting conversations.

Clarissa and Charles spent many years travelling together, taking long walks, cooking delicious meals and playing bridge whenever they could. From Duckworth Street to Paton Street to the Masonic Park and Tiffany Village, they truly loved life together.

We are so grateful for the many kind gestures and messages during this time of reflection, and extend many thanks to her Tiffany Village community and the compassionate staff at St. Clare’s – 6 West.

Visitation to take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. from 10am-12pm on Saturday, April 22nd.

“She will be missed, her smile and her love of life and learning remain in us all.”
