Corinne Joyce Inkpen (nee Angel)

June 20, 1927 to August 20, 2021

Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Corinne Joyce Inkpen (nee Angel) on August 20, 2021. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 62 years, Stan Inkpen, her parents, Heber and Joyce (Dunfield) Angel, her sister, Louise Eaton & brother-in-law, Marsh Bursey. Leaving to mourn are her sister, Suzanne Bursey and brother-in-law, Alistair Eaton. Mom will be forever missed by her children, Susan (Colin) Simms, Steve (Kathy) Inkpen and Janine Inkpen, as well as by her nine grandchildren, Stephanie Dearing, Daniel and Jesse Simms, Andrew, Lane and Hayley Inkpen, Chelsea Eason, Brittany Rowsell and Alannah Green and her five great-grandchildren, of whom she was so proud. Mom was born in 1927, the second of 3 girls. She was greatly influenced by both her parents, her father being an avid sportsman and outdoor enthusiast and her mother, a student of classical music and the piano. We all enjoyed the stories of her childhood, as it was one filled with a rich history and many funny anecdotes. And she told them so well! As a teenager, Mom travelled across the Atlantic to stay a year with her Aunt at her flat in London. Skiing the Alps, dining with the Archbishop of York and being approached for a screen test for a movie were some of the experiences we loved to hear about. When back in St John’s, Mom “caught” Dad on a blind date fishing trip which led to a long and happy marriage, with many more ups than downs. They bought land at Nine Island Pond which they cleared themselves to build the country place, where us children and the grandchildren formed long lasting connections that they will carry forever in their hearts. Using her great eye for detail and her artistic skills, she painted many beautiful scenic pictures of Newfoundland, as she was nothing if not a proud Newfoundlander. Believe it or not, you could never convince Mom the weather was better somewhere else! In her latter years after Stan’s passing, she spent hours connecting with her grandchildren by texting on her iPhone, as mom was always willing to try to adopt new ways of doing things. She loved talking to them about their lives and future plans. Mom always said she learned more from her children than they did from her. We know this is not entirely true, drawing from mom’s strength and influence every day. She loved her family with a fierce passion that was an example to us all. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering at a later date.

Mom is finally more than ‘a pinch better’.

Rest in peace dear Mom.
