Dallas (Dale) Morgan (nee Green)

January 24, 1944 to December 20, 2024

Obituary

It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts that the family of Dallas (Dale) Morgan (Nee Green) announce her passing on December 20, 2024 at the age of 80 years old after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Her family is happy that she is finally at peace.

Dallas is predeceased by her parents, Arthur & Annie Green; brother, Clarence Green; sister, Melvy Barnes; and many other members and in-laws of the Green & Morgan families.

Leaving to mourn: her husband of 59 years, Nelson Morgan; daughter, Roxanne (Gerard); son, Chris (Janet); and daughter, Nancy (Chris); as well as four grandchildren: Andrew (Rhiana), Zac (Kristen), Nick (Nicole), and her only granddaughter, Gianna (Leo); Dallas’ siblings: Don (Ina), Beatrice, Emily, Eileen, Mary, Silas (Carol) and Roy (Suzette), and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Dallas was the eldest daughter of Arthur & Annie Green and was one of 10 children. Dallas was the sweetest lady one could ever have the pleasure of knowing. She was always concerned about other people, always wondering if someone had enough, and very quick to offer a helping hand if someone needed one, even if she was “beat to a frazzle.” She didn’t want or need any praise for doing so – her acts of kindness were always unconditional, in her quiet and gentle way.

She was one of the most hard working, dedicated ladies one will ever have the pleasure of meeting or working with. She went above & beyond and didn’t need any praise. She took such pride in everything she did and truly believed that a bit of hard work wouldn’t hurt anyone – a trait, we as her children and grandchildren are proud to inherit. After a career spanning over 40 years in the fast-food industry and working her way up to managing several restaurants herself, she retired at 64 years old. However, she quickly realized that she had more left to give and that she wasn’t quite ready for retirement, so back to work she went. She was the face of Moo Moo’s Ice Cream in St. John’s for 10 years – the oldest young person there! She was praised daily for being such a dedicated worker and would always say “I can run circles around them young ones!” I’m sure there is many a young one that has worked with her that has a fond memory of Dale.

Dallas dearly loved her children and grandchildren. Her love and affection reached out-of-province and even overseas, following their journeys and always staying up to date on their studies and other activities. She always loved to know the goings on of her family and always enjoyed when they visited Newfoundland. Her four “scallywags” were worth their weight in gold to her and she always showed how much she loved them all. She was their biggest fan, and they were hers.
Her grandson Zac grew up with “Nan” always near and she loved having one of her grandkids so close. She was honoured to be able to watch him grow up from a baby to a wonderful young man. They shared a special bond. Dallas loved a game of bingo and would play 30 bingo cards going as fast as she could with the dabber. She would be up to her elbows in ink by the time she got home! Bingo and a good game of Crib were her favorite past times. She also loved to bake and could whip up a cake, a pan of squares or a dessert in record time. Her date squares were second to none.

Dallas also shared a special relationship with her son-in-law Gerard Ryan who always went above & beyond for “Nan.” He was truly her son from ‘a nudder mudder.’

We are forever grateful for having the privilege of experiencing her independence, quiet strength, gentle demeanor, and her quick wit. Her sharp mind shone bright even while living with dementia, and she could sure bring a smile or chuckle to many.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to all the staff on 4NW of Pleasant View Towers for taking care of Dallas these past 17 months. There are many there that will always hold a special place in our hearts for going above and beyond for ‘Dally’, or ‘Nanny,’ as they affectionately called her.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. A private family interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Dallas would also want everyone to be kinder to one another and to do random acts of kindness, expecting nothing in return.

“The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of you, shall never pass away.”

I worked with Dale at A&W in the Avalon Mall in the late ’90s. She was a regimented manager, and kept a strict workplace, but always had a smile, and was known to crack a joke. I enjoyed working with her.
