Daphne was a great mentor and friend to me when I was a young new teacher at Bishops College. She gave advice support and many moments of laughter. We went to hordes of fitness classes together and shared a few confidences along the way. I will remember her ready smile and energy. Thank you for being a wonderful mentor to me.

Our graduating class knew Daphne as ” Mrs . Legge”. So very sorry to learn of her passing. Many fond memories of this kind and well respected teacher. Mrs. Legge was one of the teachers who accompanied a group of us on a school trip to St. Pierre and Miquelon. It was there that we developed a special bond. My sincere condolences to her family.
May she rest in peace.

So very sorry to hear of Daphne’s passing. I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Butler as a teacher at Bishop’s College, and she was also an acquaintance of my parents (Don and Jean Hillier). I fondly remember her connection with students – which is something that I carry with me in my own career. May your many memories bring you comfort over the coming days.

So sorry to hear of Daphne’s passing. I remember her well from Bishops College as a teacher and then when she and my mother became good friends and she was such a comfort to mom prior to her passing. My sincere condolences to all the family.

Dennis and Family,

I was very sorry to hear of Daphne’s passing. I always enjoyed her company and we had many good laughs together.

Daphne had a great personality and strength of character. She was very kind and giving of herself to others. I found her to be thoughtful, straight to the point, and well informed. In her outlook on life.

Cherish her memory as she will always be with you in spirit.

My deepest condolences to you all.

I had the pleasure of working with Daphne early in my career. She was always very organized and efficient – very helpful to a young teacher returning to her alma mater. She was a proud and valuable member of the Bishops team. My condolences to the family.

I taught with Daphne at Bishops College in the late 80’s. To be honest, I was a bit scared of her at the beginning. But I quickly came to value her no nonsense demeanour. She was the one who wasn’t afraid to say things out loud, and was right way more often than not. The more I got to know her, the more I thought she was absolutely wonderful, a person to emulate, and an inspiration. She was the person who kept all the retired Bishops teachers connected; I regret not being able to attend the socials because I was busy baby-sitting grandkids. This year they all went to school – and I was waiting for Daphne’s email with coffee arrangements. So sad she has passed, but so happy to have know her.

To Dennis and family. Even though I have seen or talked to you all in the past few days I have to say what having Daphne for my friend for over 30 years has meant to me. We traveled together, had fun together, laughed and cried together. I could always count on Daphne for an honest opinion, a very earlly morning call for water fitness, and genuine interest in my children and grandchildren. During covid shutdown and during Max”s illness we had a second home with Daphne and Dennis. She was always there for support and love especially in the past year. She understood grief. I will miss her always. (About now she would tell me this is far too long) So rest in peace my friend. Phyllis

Aunt Daphne to me and my brother Chris. I’m usually good with words (maybe Daphne had something to do with that over the last 52 years) – But here I’m at a bit of a loss. Not that she would mind. Daphne was and always will be a very full presence in the Carew family. Times, events, life may have seen us not spend as much time as we could have – nay – should have – but the times we all did spend with Aunt Daphne have been and will remain special to me. Her direct, yet sage, no “bullshit” approach I appreciated perhaps a bit too late. She knew I loved her – and I know she loved me. In the end – if thats what you have to show for a relationship – I’ll take it. From my heart for a beloved aunt, from Paul my husband who immediately connected with Daphne and Dennis on his arrival to Newfoundland 18 years ago – and with love from mom Sylvia (sister-in – law), Chris. Heidi, Sarah, Johnathan and Olivia. See? Turns out I’m not so much at a loss for words – Daphne would be the first one to note that ;). All my love to you Dennis and Doug and all the rest of the Rowe, Legge, Butler families. What a woman…. xo

Dennis, my heart is full. To you, her beloved husband and more, to Douglas, ,Fiona and her pride and joy, Stephanie…Daphne was everything. George and wee Andrew and your families, you have lost your champion, always strong and steadfast and full of love and irreverence. She was my dearest friend for 65 years, and all of you were a part of that..part of the Laings and _our own children. Carl and I and the three children loved her so much. Auntie Daffeney. , we will all miss you , and hold your family in our hearts. Carl and Pat.

Dennis and family we are so sorry to hear of Daphne ‘s Passing. Our thought and prayers are with you All in time of deep loss and sadness

So very sorry to just read of Daphne’s passing. Her family and mine go back many years as her parents and mine were good friends .I met Daphne when she came to Horwood High in Clarenville to teach when I attended there in the late 60’s. I didn’t have the pleasure of having her as my teacher, but knew her on a more personal level as she often visited with my parents. To all her family, Andrew being the only one I knew in later life, please accept my sincere condolences on your loss of this lovely lady.

Dennis, a sad time for you and your family. – you are in our thoughts.

Dennis and Family,
I am so sorry that Daphne has passed away.. She was a most loved member of our family in Bay Roberts and since. Mom called her “number 5”. What a great woman.
Love to the Family.

Daphne was a good friend and devoted colleague at Bishops College.. Her dedication to teaching as well as her involvement in extra-curricular activities played a very important role in the life of Bishops.. Upon her retirement she organized, for many years, monthly luncheons for fellow Bishops retirees.. I speak for all attendees at these events – her presence will be deeply missed.

Dennis and family,
Deepest condolences on Daphne’s passing. She was a lovely lady and I’m glad for all the times we chatted over the years after I graduated from Bishops.
We used to laugh about her reputation when I was at school for being a cranky librarian. Her laugh and smile are in my heart.
Long live love.
Lois
