Obituary

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of David Allan Young at the age of 74.  Predeceased by his father and mother, John and Isobel Young and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Josephine Seymour.  Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his beloved and devoted wife of 53 years, Winnie (nee Seymour); his daughters Shari Costello (Glenn) and Lana Desmond (Brian), and his grandchildren Nick and Ryan Costello and Brian and Daria Desmond.  Also, leaving to mourn his three brothers Paul (Debbie), Stephen (Lori), and Andy (Paulette), and their families, as well as a large circle of extended family and long-time friends.

David, or Dave as he was more commonly known, was born in Saint John, New Brunswick.  After graduating high school, he pursued a career in banking with the Bank of Montreal which took him to many places including Bay Roberts, Newfoundland where he met his wife Winnie.  They moved around the Atlantic Provinces a few times before finally settling in St. John’s.  After 24 years in banking, Dave began a new career with Ultramar which saw him and Winnie make a move to Halifax, Nova Scotia where he worked until his retirement.  After retiring, Dave and Winnie decided to return to their home of St. John’s.

Dave will be remembered for his love of playing golf and curling.  His favorite pastimes were playing the piano, solving crossword puzzles and watching comedies.  He was also an avid Wii bowler, and loved to play it with his grandchildren, and anyone else who dared to take him on.

Winnie and family, so sad to get the news about Dave. We were co-workers at Ultramar, enjoying both the work and social activities. We shared a lot during those years, becoming good friends.
My thoughts are with you all.

Winnie, Lana, Shari; so saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. Many fond memories of Dave while we worked together, in St. John’s, then in Dartmouth, with Ultramar. We will remember fondly his Christmas rendition of “Olive, the Other Reindeer” ., and anytime he brought music to our office parties. He was a wonderful manager, leader and teacher to the Credit Dept gang. He always loved to be part of the activities, curling and golfing events. Sending most sincere sympathies to you all.

I started with BMO in 1967 in New Glasgow, NS and Dave was what then was known as “Chief Clerk”. He had a great sense of humour eg: driving around town with a black telephone in his car with the receiver up to his ear. Long before the real thing but I suspect he saw it coming in the future.
My condolences to his family and friends.

Winnie and family, so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I have many fond memories of Dave while working with him at BMO and remember especially his perfect old fashioned waltzes. May he rest in peace

Lana, Shari, Winnie and families, my heart goes out to you and I’m so sorry for your loss. A few things that stand out to me about your dad is that he was always sharp with his memory – asking questions like years had not passed since I saw him last, and he always offered to share a glass of wine. I’m so glad François had the chance to meet him last year too – another wine-lover to share a glass and talk about world events or finances. May your hearts find peace in his eternal resting. Our thoughts are with you.

Shari…..sad to hear about your Dads passing.. Geoff and I send our condolences to your family.

My deepest sympathy to you Winnie on the sad passing of your dearest David May his soul Rest in Peace

Aunt Winnie, Shari and Lana. My heart aches for the loss you are experiencing right now. Please Find comfort in your family and friends. If I was in Newfoundland I would be there for you as you were there for me. Love and prayers sent to you and the whole family.

Our deepest condolences to a beautiful family on the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
When we think of Dave, we picture him sitting at the head of the table on Christmas Eve with a glass of red. Blessed to have spent those special times together. Cheers to you Dave, till we meet again. Xo
