Obituary

Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Hospital on May 11, 2023, David Norman Ralph, age 86.

Predeceased by his mother Stella and father Norman; mother-in-law Maria and father-in-law Joseph Kendall; sister-in-law Mary; and brother-in-law Sidney.

Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara; sons Dwight (Jackie), Jeffrey (Elizabeth); and daughter Jocelyn (Ahmed); loving grandchildren Ava and Steven Ralph, Ibrahim, Ismael, Samira and Davey Ghareib; brother-in-law Roy (Debbie); sisters-in-law Eileen (Alvin), and Florence; special friends John Brooks and Reverend David Pilling; cousins Gloria Mercer and Peggy Bartlett; as well as many relatives and friends.

David was a devoted and dedicated employee of The Janeway Children’s Hospital as Director of Finance for 27 years. He was an active member of the community. He was a past President of the Kinsmen Club, Mt. Pearl, and past President and Paul Harris fellow of the Northwest Rotary Club of St. John’s.

During his time at the Janeway he recognized the need for family from out of town to be closer to their ill children and involved the members of the Northwest Rotary Club of St. John’s to start and complete the Janeway Children’s Hostel.

Dave was a long time dedicated member of Freemasonry. He was past Master of Lodge Tasker #454 SC, AF&AM, a member of Avalon Lodge #2, and the District Grand Lodge of NL, Grand Lodge of Scotland and Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge of NL. He was also a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Freemason in the valley of St. John’s, and a member of Mazol Shriners of NL.

David loved his time spent at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church in devotion, and in service as parish accountant for fifteen years.

David was so proud of all his family and their life achievements.

Thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of the emergency room and 4West at St. Clare’s Hospital, and all of our friends for their caring support at this time.

The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday, May 15 from 1:30 – 4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, 1 Westerland Road, on Tuesday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m.

Flowers are gratefully accepted, or Donations in Dave’s memory may be made to St. Augustine’s Anglican Church.
