David passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026. Those who knew David, knew of his strong desire for success in every endeavour he tackled. David enjoyed a long successful career with Bell Canada then onto the Newfoundland Telephone Company. After retirement David continued to work with a company based in St. Louis. Back in the day when every house got a phone book. That was David. David oversaw the setup of the business in that particular city while ensuring it ran smoothly. David would set up a temporary office, hire delivery persons, oversaw payments, checking to ensure every house in a particular city received their phonebook and then dismantling that temporary office. David did this until he was 69.
David is predeceased by his loving parents, his father John Patrick Barron, his mother Marguerite Power (Doody) and his loving wife Bernice Barron who passed 16 days prior to David. David and Bernice were together since they were teenagers and married for 59 years. Also predeceased by David is his younger brother John Barron, MD and his gentle sister Diane Quinlan. As well as his treasured in-laws Alphonsus and Rita Collins.
Leaving to mourn the profound loss of David’s passing are his two adoring children, his son Gregory Barron (Ruby) and his daughter Carrie Lee Rossiter (Bill). David has four beautiful grandchildren whom he loved dearly. David Barron (Amanda) and Andrew Barron (Stephanie), Will Rossiter and one very special granddaughter Katie Rossiter.
Public Visitation will take place from Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026 from 10:00AM-12:00PM and from 4:00PM-8:00PM.
Funeral Mass will take place from the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL on Thursday, July 9th, 2026 at 11:00AM. Interment to follow from Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Topsail Road.

I am so sorry to see that Dave has passed away, especially given the recent loss of his wife. Dave and I worked together at Newtel where he was a key player in administering the safety program where he earned the respect all the employees he connected with. Great individual!

I had the privledge of spending some cherished time with David and Bernice through homecare and felt privledged to have been able to do so. I’m sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I knew Dave from Newfoundland Telephone and I always enjoyed being in his company. I had the pleasure to have a great “Day on the Bay” on his boat many years ago-some great times. May all your wonderful memories help you through this difficult time.

Dave and I have been friends since Grade 2 at St Bon’s and let’s say we had very memorable times .,especially when I introduced him to Bernice ,love at first site ,oh the memories.. Thankfully I shook hand with him day before he died ,You had a great mom and dad .
I was sorry to hear of Dave’s death. I have great memories from working with him at Newfoundland Telephone Company in Labour Relations and Safety. There were lots of laughs for sure. Im so sorry for your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I always enjoyed conversations with Dave working at Newtel. I remember my daughter getting temporary work delivering phone books back in the day. Sincerest condolences to Dave’s family.
I am so deeply sorry to hear of Dave’s passing and that of your mother. I worked with Dave at Newtel and he was a great co-worker and friend. He liked to try his hand at making cookies once in a while, and would share them in the office. May you have the comfort and support of family and friends during this time of loss.

There are no words of comfort, to lose two parents in
a couple of weeks. Remember the cherished times and
think of them reunited again, with no physical problems. I went to St. Patricks and Holy Heart with your Mom and we were good friends and roller skating buddies.! Thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Again, Marlene and I convey our sympathy on the passing of your father, so soon after the loss of your mother. As long time neighbours we shared many thoughts on worldly matters. I remember clearly the story of how he got his first job with Bell Canada right after school.. It made for a good laugh, but it was the beginning of a long career in the communications business.
