I was so sorry to hear about Uncle D’s passing. Please know you have my deepest condolences.
Uncle D was there for all the birthdays, Christmases, summer evenings on the deck, kitchen beers on cold winter evenings, shoveling driveways side by side. He picked me up when I fell off my bike or out of a tree. He was a font of dad jokes, had an infectious laugh and loved his Boston terriers. But he loved you all more than anything in the world.. And he (and Mrs. Barrett) checked on my mom every single day after she and my father split up. He was a classy gentleman and a real member of the Byrne family, as you all are. All my love from New York City.

Linda and the kids
Ginny and I were shocked to read of David’s passing. We had not heard of any illness so hence the surprise.
I remember many happy times at Winter Place and parties we all went to. I particularly remember a swimming party at our house in Topsail and Dave sing “How Great Thou Art”
Lots of laughs over the years. We send our deepest sympathy to you all. With much love,

Linda, Valerie, Keith and Ian,
I was so saddened to hear about Uncle Dave’s passing. He wasn’t just an excellent uncle but a great person as well.
When we first returned from Alberta many years ago, he gave me financial advice as well as moral support during an unsettled time.
He always had a cheerful disposition and an optimistic attitude. I can hear that distinctive deep baritone voice of his saying “Hi Dave” followed by a joke and then that wonderful laugh of his. He was such fun to be around.
We saw him frequently at mom’s and as my kids grew up they got to know him as well. My son Christopher got into basketball. When he learned about Dave’s basketball glories, they made a real connection.
He was the last of his family. They were all charismatic loving fun and giving people. It feels like the end of an era. I will miss him terribly.
I feel your pain. My wife Tish, my children Christopher, Katie, Sean and I as well as the entire Cowan clan send our deepest sympathies.

Your Nephew/Cousin
Dave Cowan

Linda and family,
What a neighbour he was! He was always there for our family: looking out for us, giving of his time, and looking out for the kids. Max always enjoyed talking to Dave (also lovingly known in our hearts as the Mayor of Long Pond Rd.) as he explored your garden, which you and Dave always welcomed him to do. Having just moved into the neighbourhood, I always loved sitting out back and chatting with Dave about anything and everything: It was like having a dad next door.
He always met us with open arms, and I enjoyed every visit and every good laugh. Since we’ve moved, Ive been trying to prune our trees in Saint John like “Daves balls….;)”: you know, I just cant get ours to look nearly as nice as Daves!
He was a good man, a strong community member, and I know he was a loving husband to his wife and Poppy to his grandchildren. Max, Catherine, Luke and I were upset to hear of his passing, and he will be missed on Long Pond, and beyond.
In Dave’s passing, we have lost a dear friend, and we mourn with you.
Love to you,
The Searle’s of Saint John (formerly the Searle’s of St. John’s)Maximus, Catherine, Stephanie, and Luke

Sincere condolences to Linda and the family from Bob and Georgia LeMessurier and family.

I was a bay man boarder at St, Bons in 1950 when townie Dave kind of took me under his wing by way of helping me along until I joined him as a member of the St Bons basketball team.
