It is with deep sadness that the family of the late David Ross Tobias Hann announces his passing. David passed peacefully away at Saint Luke’s Community Living, St. John’s, NL on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, in the presence of his family. David was 71 years of age.
David worked his entire thirty seven years with Memorial University – Grounds and Maintenance, where he made life-long friendships with his incredible colleagues.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, happiest when surrounded by nature – whether deep in the woods or out on the water. A cherished member of the five-pin bowling community, he spent many years competing at both provincial and national levels, earning respect and lasting friendships.
Above all, he was a devoted family man who poured his heart into supporting his grandson, Dylan and children, Linda, Davey and Kelley. Their biggest fan, he never missed a game – cheering from the stands whether they were playing locally or across the country.
Our father was known by many names – Dave, David Sr., Skipper and Dad, but the one he took the greatest pride in was “Pop”, to his cherished grandchildren.
David is predeceased by his wife – Gail; parents – Arthur & Lucy Hann; infant brother and his parents-in-law – Chris & Cavelle Murphy.
Left with a lifetime of wonderful memories is his daughter – Linda Hann (Heff – who was his personal chef); his sons – Davey Hann (Michelle) and Kelley Hann (Beckah); precious grandchildren – Dylan Neville (Abby) and Kinsley, Lauren and Lane Hann; brothers – Morley Hann (Carmel), Larry Hann (Evelyn) and Don Hann (Glynis); brother-in-law – Tony Murphy; sisters-in-law – Sherry Eddy (Barry) and Roxanne Tucker (John); special friends – Don & Rose Squires and family friend and caregiver – Jackie Gillett as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Penny, Dr. Sheesh and the staff at Saint Luke’s – Pleasant View Terrace and Fairhaven Units, for the loving care and compassion you have shown to our Dad over the past two years.
Public Visitation will take place from Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL on Sunday, July 27th, 2025 from 2:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM.
Reverend Rebecca Pike-Winter will conduct the Funeral Service from The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, July 28th at 11:00AM. Interment to follow at the family plot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in David’s memory to Saint Luke’s Community Living or to The Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
