Predeceased by parents Gerald and Stella Fleming (McDonald); brothers James Fleming and Gordon Fleming; special aunt Mary Rice (Tuckel); nephew Chad Parsons; and special friends Peg Hafey, Linda Coady, and Cec Warford.
Leaving to mourn are his partner and loyal, staunch friend for 37 years, Freddy; special sister Rhonda; special nephew Chris, who he also thought of as a son, as well as Heather (Chris’s wife) and their boys. Special friends include Ruth and John Lefort, Gordon McDonald, Johnny and Audrey McDonald,
Family Patsy Brown (Glenn), Father Mick Fleming, Judy Peddle (William), Rhonda Peet (Rick), Maryann Fleming (Steve), Pam Parsons (Brad), Rick Fleming, Gary Fleming, along with numerous nephews, nieces, extended family members, and a large circle of friends.
David had an amazing work ethic that started when he was a young boy and lasted throughout his life. He worked at numerous jobs over the years and eventually took over and ran his parents’ business in the taxi industry for over 40 years, eventually retiring in 2019.
David had an extensive list of things that filled his life with joy, but nothing brought him more happiness than his family. His dedication to them was unwavering, and he lived each day with an intense love that radiated to everyone around him.
David placed family above all else, consistently putting their needs before his own and offering unconditional support to anyone who needed it. His loyalty knew no bounds, and he was always ready to step in, uplift, and sacrifice without hesitation. Through every challenge, he remained a steadfast source of strength and warmth, embodying what it truly means to be a devoted pillar and relentless, unwavering leader of the family.
David possessed a sharp wit and an extraordinary sense of humor that could light up any room. His quick comebacks and clever observations left everyone laughing, often catching them off guard in the best way possible. His humor was uniquely his own—always perfectly timed. No one in the family could match his effortless ability to bring joy and laughter, and he had a remarkable talent for finding the humor in any situation, making even the most ordinary moments unforgettable.
David spent many years of great joy, happiness, and peace at his cabin in Denny’s Pond, a place he dearly loved and passionately shared over the years with his dogs, Princess, Scout, Tess, Haley, Celie, and Joey.
Among his other passions were listening to his music, old Irish tunes, country and western, and “the oldies but goodies!!” that he enjoyed right up to the end. He could “tear up the dance floor” in his day.
David and Freddy were passionate gardeners who cultivated a beautiful, park-like sanctuary at their cabin. They found great joy in sharing this serene, meticulously maintained area with friends and family.
In his latter years, when his mobility became an issue, he immensely enjoyed his long drives in the country with the tunes blasting!
Special thanks to Dr. Andrew Hutton for his exceptional, compassionate care of David over the years.
Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30th, and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday October 31st.

So sorry to hear of David’s passing. Condolences to Freddie, the family and friends.
Uncle David was an extraordinary person who touched the lives of everyone in our family and many more that had the pleasure of knowing him. David was a rock and always there for family and friends during times of need. He loved his family and close friends, he was caring , kind, compassionate , dedicated and wise. He had a profound impact on my life , particularly during my early childhood years . He was more than an uncle, he was an excellent role model and cared so much ! He wore his heart on his sleeve , gave great advice, and always spoke his mind! His approach always came from a place of love and caring, we all knew that was the case when he was strict and preaching to us . I think we all got the odd lecture now and then, especially during the teenage years. David looked out for everyone and always put others before himself. We had alot of fun times too, especially playing softball. Uncle Dave was an awesome coach and certainly very passionate about the game too. He will be missed & never forgotten. Heaven gained an angel, may he rest in peace joining other loved ones that passed before him. ❤️ Suzanne, Casey & Connor
Sending my sincere condolences to Freddie and all David’s family and friends. Although I only met him a few times over the years he certainly left an impression with all that knew him. I’ll always remember his kindness to everyone ❤️ he will certainly be missed.
There are special people in this world and then there are very special ones. David was very much a very special one. I remember the very first time I met him along with his sister Pam. Patsy wanted him to “ check me out” to see what he thought of me. He made me feel relaxed at the first hello. The rest is history.
David had a special gift of being able to make you feel that you mattered and that you were part of his life .We will never forget that.
As so many have said, family was the most important part of his life. He helped and gave freely to all that needed him. He was the patriarch without doubt.
Was he perfect, no , but very close.
We will miss David greatly, and extend our deepest condolences to Freddy and family.

Deepest condolences to the family. I have some very fond memories from my childhood with David . May he rest in peace .
To the family & my mother Maryanne,
If you look up the meaning of the name David, you’ll learn that in means “beloved” , which is exactly what he was to us. A beloved son, brother, uncle, companion, friend & neighbour.
Anyone who knew uncle Dave knew 3 things..
He loved & sacrificed for his family on countless occasions. He grew beautiful gardens where anyone, big or small could find a love of nature, & He had a sharp tongue, and quick wit, which was futile to compete with.
He meant so many things, to so many people, but for me, he was a place to voice your fears without judgment. Love & understanding, that could bring calm to any stormy day. A much needed laugh when tensions were high. He always seemed to know exactly what I needed, whether it was a pat on the back, a gentle nudge in the right direction, or a “swift kick in the arse” . Uncle Dave treated us all like his own, Which, if you know the size of our family, meant he had his work cut out for him. I cherish the memories of times I got to spend with him, especially those spent out at Denny’s pond. I love you uncle Dave, you will always be in my heart. I know you’ll rest in peace, in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. With all my love, Pammy Sue.
Myself and Frances would like to express our deepest condolences to Dave’s Family & Friends. I worked at Northwest taxi with Dave for a number of years and his Father Gerald before him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time in your lives.

I remember David letting me interview him for a project I had in elementary school in the late 80’s, I’m sure he had more important things to do with his time running a business but he was happy to do it.
Over the years seeing David he would always give me a “How you doing Shawn” every time he seen me, even if it had been 10 years Since the last time.
Last year when I was home myself and mom went to see David and Freddie at the cabin, we talked about life, I showed him pictures of my kids and stuff, catching up etc. It had been about 5 years since I talked to him. It was a good visit.
David was a good man, My condolences to Freddie and David’s family.
Sincere Sympathy to David’s family and friends during this difficult time. Treasure your beautiful memories of Dave, a very kind and caring person. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

David was and always will be remrmbeted as a sweet, kind, considerate person.
Sorry for your loss.
One of the things I always admired the most about David was his commitment to living life on his own terms. He always knew exactly what he wanted to do and exactly how he wanted to do it, and god help anyone who tried to say otherwise.
Beyond that, his biting wit was the source of endless amusement for anyone that has ever had the pleasure to sit across from him at a card table.
He will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation.
To Pam , Mick and family..
So sorry to hear Dave’s passing .
A lot of fond memories and laughs together.

My condolences to all of Dave’s family and friends Because of my long absence from Newfoundland the only memories I have of Dave was at a much younger age 😊playing soft ball in the lower meadow
Skating out on Dicky Sutton pond or playing road hockey which was periodically interrupted by the passing traffic
Only fond memories

Uncle David was a great man with an incredible sense of humor. I’ll always remember when he came to visit us here in Nova Scotia. David and Freddy played Mario Tennis with me and my brothers. I didn’t think David was particularly good at the game, but he kept trying to make us laugh or distract us so he could beat us (with great success). It was an absolute blast and my cheeks still hurt just thinking about it! It’s clear to me now that he was actually the *best* at the game.
May he rest in peace. My condolences to Freddy and the rest of the family.
I would like to thank David for giving me some great memories to look back upon. Especially the one about the Buffalo wings. 😉
Rhonda, so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother Dave. My deepest condolences.
Uncle David, you will always have a special place in my heart… when I was a younger child we spent a lot of time together, you taking me to Peg’s, your softball games when you managed the Northwest girls team, and lots of bingo evenings, sometimes we were lucky, but most times we weren’t lol, but you always seems to hook a $100 Nevada win…. I’ll always remember the advice you offered, the love you gave, the help you gave myself and Frank as he embarked on his first year of taxiing and most of all the fun times we shared over the years…. I know our family who were called home before you greeted you with open arms… Rest Easy until we meet again. I’ll love you always, Love, Tam xoxo
