Meghan, Jonathan and all the Carnell family,
Debra was such a dear lifelong friend. Not many of us are blessed to have a friend as wonderful as Debra and for an entire lifetime!
We have known each other since before nursery school and except for summers when Leslie took over as been her bestie we have has always been extremely close.
I am truly heartbroken to lose a friend as Leslie described so beautifully.
Debra was so humble in spite of her great achievements. Debra was a great listener and so empathetic when I went through adverse times..I only hope I could give back in friendship what she gave me in multitudes.
Debra loved both of you Meghan and Jonny with all her heart and spoke so proudly of you both. I know she couldn’t wait to be a grandmother! .Jonny, she asked me in her last few days to make sure you always remind your sweet children of your mom and how much she wanted to be part of their lives.
It was a privilege and honour to have Debra for a friend.I was truly blessed and will treasure her memory forever.
With much love,
Lynn and family

My deep condolences to Megan, Jonathon and all of Debra’s family on your loss. I had the pleasure of working very closely with your Mom from 1990 up to the day I walked her to her car at the Waterford Hospital on her last day of work. Whereas she was excited to embark on retirement, I was aware that her expertise in Psychology would be greatly missed. Debra was a very valued member of the many clinical teams she worked with over the years. Her contribution to each of them was enhanced by her presence. We maintained a lasting friendship through our years together and I will greatly miss our coffees at the Rooms when I return home. Farewell Debra, safe travels….

Debra I worked together in Psychology Dept of Waterford Hospital for a few years. She was so compassionate with clients and a natural listener. Only traveled with her once with Jill Eaton but we had so much fun. Debra was so beloved. Rest in peace gentle Debra.

To all the Carnell family,
Sandy and I were very sad to hear the news of Debra’s passing. What a sweetheart as you all know. We both had connections with her in the early seventies through sport, softball and the gatherings thereafter. It was always a treat to run into her when we had very young children, she was so proud of them. Debra a kind and loving lady will be dearly missed by all. Deepest sympathy to alll.

To you all, who loved Debra so much, in great sympathy:
As you know, Debra was the loveliest person – and I can attest that she always was – through her whole life. My memories of her go back to nursery school, school days and birthday parties, to university as she learned Psychology and worked hard on experiments, to the great years of her favourite sports and exercise activities (tennis, softball, bike excursions and walking), to Debra as a beautiful bride, to the fun she had raising her babies and more recently, to my outings with her to Bell Island, Cape Spear, Cabot Tower and for coffee.

Debra had such a fine character (exactly as Leslie Lake’s online tribute describes) and was clever too; don’t forget that she had a long run of years as the top scholar in her class at Bishop Spencer.

I am so sorry that you have lost your dear Mother and dear Sister. It is unbelievable that she is gone. I know you loved her and appreciated her your whole lives, and she knew she was loved and returned your love.
With much affection to you all, including her dear friends, Joan

My deepest condolences on the loss of a truly wonderful person. I first met Debra at Riverdale Tennis club when she was six years old and became lifelong friends.
She was so sweet, loving and kind; a joy to spend time together. Her smile would light up a room and her laugh was infectious.
She will be forever in my heart.

Such a sweet soul! Sincere condolences.

It’s with great sadness we say goodbye to Debz. Although we didn’t get to spend as much time with her as we would have liked, her visits to Calgary were always a treat. Debz was a great sport to join in our hectic Christmas celebrations. She didn’t complain about late dinners, or having to endure all the crazy shenanigans, and traditions our family celebrates. Being the other Grandparents, it was clear to us how much Debz loved our shared Granddaughter, Cassie. Sadly, Debz wasn’t asble to meet Jake, her new Grandson, but we are certain Debz’s spirit lives in the precious souls of both her Grandchilden. God bless.

Geoff, Margot, Robin.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Debra’s passing. She was such a wonderful, positive, fun person. A joy to be with! I have known her since university days and always enjoyed running into her and having great chats.
Sincere condolences to Debra’s children, siblings, extended family and close friends.

My heart felt condolences to Debra’s family and friends. She was the sweetest, kindest woman. May you find comfort in beautiful memories of her. Rest In Peace.

I had the privilege of working with Debra for many years at the Waterford Hospital……I will never forget her devotion to her family and friends, and her work but mostly, she told wonderful stories with great humour. She will be missed by many. Sincere condolences to her family and close friends.

Geoff and Family,

We are so very shocked and sorry to hear of Debra’s passing. We know from personal experience how hard it is to lose a sister and this time of year makes it even more difficult. Please know that our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Our deepest and sincere condolences,

Roxy and Bonnie ( Pike)

Deb was the sweetest woman in the world. From carpooling me and Jonny to tennis/hockey/basketball to letting us socialize downstairs in her basement she was thoughtful and caring. She did everything with a graceful disposition and loved her kids so much. Deb instilled many amazing qualities in her kids, many of which I see today in Jonny. He is one of my best friends and I see the same thoughtful and caring demeanor in him that she exuded every day. I’m so sad Deb has passed on, but she would be so proud her values and qualities live on in Meghan and Jonny.

Sending my love, thoughts, and prayers
