As Rennie said Jerome was my buddy growing up, too. Dennis was much younger than me but when he was old enough to get into the UNF club we quickly became friends. I believe the last time I saw Dennis was at our cabin. We both had a few too many beers but more important we had a lot more laughs than beers. My deepest condolences to Jerome, Randell and all the Hayes family. Rest in peace, Deet, my friend.

While Jerome was my buddy growing up, Dennis always had a big place in my heart. Dennis from a young age was always willing to give a hand where a hand was needed. He helped me on many occasions whether it was shovelling snow or doing a bit of carpentry work. Dennis spent many weekends helping the Wakeham’s build their cabin on Nine Island Pond and we had many good times there over the years.
To Jerome and family, my heartfelt condolences.

To all the Hayes Family, I was shocked to wake and see the story about the fire and then to hear of Dennis (Deet) tragic and sudden passing. Like others have said, I have so many great memories of growing up and hanging out on the corner of Coronation and Patrick. Streets. While I haven’t spoken with Deet in a number of years I would see him from time to time walking to and from work. . My thoughts and prayers with all of the family. RIP Deet.

Our condolences to the Hayes family. Words are hard to find to describe how we feel about our cousin’s tragic passing. Dennis was a great guy who had a twinkle in his eye and a wonderful smile that complemented his sense of humor. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him.

I worked with Dennis on the Canopy Growth project in 2019. We actually first spoke because I noticed we smoked the same kind of cigarette, export A green. Upon speaking with him he mentioned how he walked to work each morning, from downtown ALLLL the way to east white hills. I couldn’t believe it, I lived very close by so I offered him rides to and from.

He said “now kelsey, I don’t want you to go out of your way”, I told him that it was no trouble at all and I’d be more than happy to bring him. He would not let me pay for my own coffee on the way though, every morning he handed me a $5 dollar bill and made sure I took it.

Dennis was a quiet man, and in the trades it’s not very common. He however made quite the impact on me in my sheet metal career, and I’ll never forget him.

I hope that the family is surrounded by love and laughter during such a difficult time. Until we meet again Dennis.

Kelsey

To the Hayes Famiily:
My deepest condolesnces on Deniis’ (Deet) passing. We had many good times and great laughs when we all hung around together “back in the day”. He was a quiet, kind, gentle soul who was quick with a smile and joke. I lost track of him for many years but ran into him about 10 years ago – he hadn’t changed a bit…still that really nice guy. His passing has left me so sad but brought back memories that bring a smile. I hope that in time, memories of him will do the same for you.
