Obituary
Passed peacefully away at home on January 2, 2022 at the age of 65. Predeceased by his parents Arthur and Philomena Drodge. Left with a lifetime of fond and loving memories his children Jonathan and Brittany and their mother Elizabeth Simmons, sisters Beverlee Ryan (Brian), Sharon Drodge-Tucker (Mark); nephew Steven Ryan (Sara) and his daughter Rhiannon; nieces Cheryl Mann (Koun) and their two daughters Lila and Ariana, Beth Warren (Shawn Holden) and their children Blake and Anna Sofia, and a large circle of family and friends.
The family would like to thank Tammy Moss of Compassionate Home Care and the staff and doctors at the Mt. Pearl dialysis clinic for their exceptional care, and also Dr. Peter Robbins for the years of care.
A visitation and funeral service will be held at a later date once COVID restrictions have lifted. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dereck’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.
Deepest, heartfelt sympathy for Betty, Brittany, Jonathon and all who loved Derrick. I did not know of his passing until recently and send my condolences to the family.

Sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I have fond memories of him through his involvement with you in your early school days, as well as his support in the school.

So sorry to hear of Dereck’s passing. I worked with Dereck years ago at the CSU at MUN. I don’t think we realized it at the time, but we started our IT careers in that long narrow hallway in the old TSC building. We had some great times and and remember him well. My condolences to the family.

I worked with Dereck at North Atlantic. He was a great person. Condolences to his family.
I worked with Derrick years ago when I was with IT at the NF oil refinery. He solved so many of our network issues! He was a great guy. Such a great sense of humour.

Dereck helped me many times in establishing a IT network at my place of work. Dereck was a wonderful person to work with, never flustered and always there to navigate me through IT issues. I loved his demeanour and good humour.

I don’t now what I can say about him. We were best friends growing up and best man at each other’s wedding and to this day I still consider him my best friend.
We didn’t see each other very often over these last number of years but when we did manage to get together it just seemed like we could talk about things the same as we did in the old days when we were cruising the streets of the east end of St. John’s and trying to fool our parents into thinking that we were well behaved.. We both knew we were never quite successful with that.

Betty, Jonathan and Brittney I am so sorry for your loss. I have known Dereck for about 40 years and obviously worked with him for the last 30 years. Aside from his supreme IT skills the two things I will remember about him was his absolute love of his family and his unwavering faith in god. May he Rest In Peace and I hope the three of you find peace as well.
