Derrick Maxwell Andrews died tragically as a result of a pedestrian-vehicle collision on July 24th, 2026 in his 77th year.
Predeceased by his parents – Maxwell & Susanna Andrews; parents-in-law – Glen & Doris Niles and brother-in-law – Brian Terry.
Lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years – Deborah; daughters – Gina Pickett (George) and Julie Winsor (Matthew King); granddaughters – Frances Winsor (Ethan Kirby), and her father – Jeff Winsor, Julienne Pickett (Jacob Jones), Georgia Pickett (Riley Halley); sisters – Wanece Taylor (Eric) and Jean Butler (John); sister-in-law – Joanne Niles; brother-in-law – Al Niles (Martha MacDonald) and a large circles of extended family and friends.
The Andrews family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the emergency personnel, witnesses and victims who were at the scene. Your courage and compassion during such a difficult time will never be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place. The Andrews family will be receiving visitors from Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL on Wednesday, July 29th, 2026 from 2:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. James United Church, 330 Elizabeth Avenue, St. John’s, NL on Thursday, July 30th, 2026 at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Derrick’s memory to charity of one’s choice.

I was terribly saddened to hear of Derrick’s tragic passing. Margaret and I passed by the accident location shortly after it occurred and we were shocked when we found out what happened . I cannot comprehend the loss, especially under such circumstances . I have known Derrick since the 60’s when hanging out with the Willar clan and then crossed paths regularly during our telecom days . If there was such a thing as. “Sweet guy” , it was Derrick, always good company with that great smile .

Learned this morning from a former PWC friend of Derrick’s passing and without doubt, a major blow to hear of his loss coupled with how he lost his life.
Derrick and I went through school together and despite not having seen each other for a few years, the bond remained close when we would meet. He will always remain the little boy I knew and befriended from MacPherson and United Collegiate.
