Donald James Murphy

August 17, 1964 to April 12, 2022

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Donald James Murphy “Murf”, at his home in St. John’s on April 12, 2022, at the age of 57.

Predeceased by his father Thomas Joseph Murphy, brother Michael Joseph Murphy, brother in law, Robert Eugene Stamp.

Leaving to mourn with heartbreaking sadness, his Mother, Margaret Mary Murphy, sisters, Margaret (Margie) Murphy, Suzanne Stamp and Shirley Hayes (Richard), brother, Thomas Murphy (Helen Marie), sister-in-law Linda Murphy, many nieces and nephews, his best friend of over 40 years, Darrin (Lynn) Clancey and lastly his furry friend Doodles.

Donny was a loving and devoted son to both of his parents, the bestest big brother ever, especially to his sister Margie. The best uncle to his “lil buddy” Jude Thomas who called him “Uncle Duck!” He was a very loyal and caring friend who would do anything for anyone if they needed help.

Donny worked in the taxi industry almost all of his life.  First as a driver then as a dispatcher, he was one of the best and one of the longest to hold that title in St. John’s!  He started at Super Ace Taxi, then Churchill Park Cabs which later became Co-Op Taxi and finally as a proud member of Newfound Cabs. During his work life he met hundreds of people whom I am sure will miss him greatly as well.

Funeral will be held at St. Teresa’s Parish on Mundy Pond Road, St. John’s on Wednesday, April 20th at 9:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Newfoundland Pony Sanctuary, P.O. Box 133, Change Islands, Newfoundland, A0G 1R0, phone 709-621-6381 (Etransfer: nlponyrefuge@outlook.com).
