My deepest condolences to the Kane family. Even through all the sadness, I’ll remember Doreen’s smile. I’ll also remember the touch of class she brought to celebrations in the library. It was just one of the ways she let people know they mattered. She will be missed.

I was so saddened and shocked to hear of Doreen’s passing. I grew up just 2 doors down from Doreen. She and my sister Laurie we buddies lol. Doreen was such a great neighbor to my parents when I moved away. She was always out chatting with the neighbors and always made sure she said hello to them when they were sitting out. I remember a couple years ago when I was home, she said she spent the whole day raking leaves. I remember joking with her and saying, ” that’s because you haven’t shut up chatting with everyone” haha, rake a bit, chat for 20 minutes haha. She loved to chat and that’s what made the neighborhood so special. She will be greatly missed for sure. I hope your in a better place Doreen. RIP

Kevin and Betty

Doreen and her mother were our neighbours on Smith avenue for almost ten years. I remember her love for gardening. At the time, I was trying to tame a back garden full of flowers, Doreen and I shared many a chat about the state of our gardens.

The Kane Family,
Our sincere condolences on the passing of Doreen. We have very fond memories of Doreen growing up together on Smith Avenue. As we grew older, we grew apart but we still saw each other on occasion, tooted the horn gave a smile and a wave coming or going on Smith Avenue. We will miss Doreen .

My deepest sympathy to the Kane family.
Doreen was my neighbour for the past 30 years.
We enjoyed many neighbourly get-togethers of which Doreen was a big part.

She will be sadly missed .

I have known Doreen since she was a young lady. We often called each other “only Doreen” and I was “ only Linda”. But there was nothing “only” about Doreen! She always had a ready smile and a quick wit. We found her to be kind and generous. Her Christmas decorating skills are unsurpassed. We always looked forward to seeing what Doreen and Janet created every Christmas. She knew her own mind and shared her expertise and stories. Doreen even helped decorate and serve for our son’s wedding rehearsal party. She wasn’t one to seek attention but she sure deserved it many times. Our condolences from us and our two families here in Ottawa to Janet, Brian and family. And as well to the whole Kane families. Thoughts and prayers to all.

So sorry to hear of Doreen’s passing. I knew Doreen at Memorial University and have to say that she was such a nice person. She always had time for a chat and her sense of humor and quick wit was amazing. Doreen will be missed by all that knew her. My deepest condolences to the Kane family, her friends and colleagues. Rest in Peace Doreen.

Bob, Joanne and family. So sorry to learn about Doreen*s. passing:( Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My sincere condolences to the Kane family. I only knew Doreen for a few years but in that time was very happy to know her. Doreen was my “boss” at the Library, but she didn’t act like one. She became a friend and we shared a lot of laughs together. When she came to my office door with a certain pose with one arm hooked into the other, leaning to one side, I knew she was there for the long haul – she had a story to tell. She had a great sense of humour. I am so saddened by Doreen’s passing and I hope you find comfort in the many stories you’ll share about Doreen. I am very sorry for your loss.

So sorry to learn of Doreen’s passing. I always found her to be great to work with and she had a terrific sense of humor as so many others have mentioned. A very nice person. My condolences to the family.

I am shocked and so saddened to see this. I worked with Doreen initially as the HR Advisor to the QEII when we first transitioned to that model, and off and on again over the years. With my changes in positions, she was always willing to help and offer her insight. She was also a great cheerleader to me personally. We had lunch together several times a year to get away from work and just chat. She always spoke so lovingly of her family. My condolences to all of you. Such a huge loss for everyone.

On behalf of Memorial University Libraries, where Doreen worked for many years, I extend our deepest sympathies to Doreen’s family and friends. I worked briefly with Doreen and have fond memories of her laughter and how she found the humour in what was a very stressful job. Her colleagues, when remembering Doreen, noted the professionalism with which she approached her responsibilities and how she made time to listen to everyone. She always thought about what was best for each person she worked with and she often put the person and their needs before her own. She is gone much too quickly and she will be missed by all who worked with her.
