Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother Doreen Masters (nee Bonnell) in her 89th year.  Mom passed away peacefully, and with love in her heart for those she left behind, as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She leaves behind many who cherish the memories she brought to their lives.

Doreen was predeceased by her husband William Masters (Benny), her children Judy, Donna, and Billy; her parents Bertrum and Elizabeth Bonnell; brother George Bonnell and his wife Jean; sisters Elizabeth (Bess) Crews and her husband Alfred, Sarah Crews (Levi), Ellen Hillier (Albert), Ruby Bonnell, Shirley Bourgeois (Paul); brothers Johnny and Clayton.

She leaves behind her loving children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.  Doreen (Mom) loved her family more than anything in this world.  Left to mourn her loving children Pam Leaman (Larry), Angela Lee (Billy), Roger Masters (Gail), Paula Follett (Terry); grandchildren Larry Leaman, Andrew Lee, (Leanna), Melissa Hayes (Zack), Nicholas, Allyssa, Brandon (Danielle), Benjamin (Bree), Brooklyn (Dylan); great-grandchildren Emily, Caleb, and Zoey; sisters Gertrude Rideout (Earl), Emily Butt (Ron deceased); special niece Elizabeth Belbin.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department and 5 North A East for the care and compassion they showed our Mom for the short time she was there.  They went above and beyond to keep her comfortable.  Thanks to the staff at Chancellor Park where she resided for the last two years, especially Amelia who called Mom “Mother”.  Thanks to everyone who reached out to us and send food – we appreciated it more than you know.

Following Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  There will be no public visitation, however there will be a graveside service at the Anglican Cemetery on Kenmount Road, on Saturday, May 20 at 1 p.m.

A celebration of life will take place at the Petty Harbour Co-op on Tuesday, May 23 from 12-4 p.m.  Please feel free to come and celebrate Mom’s journey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

I always had a great time visiting Doreen and was very sad to hear of her passing. She had a great sense of humour and always told wonderful stories. We often joked about starting a band and going on tour; I will miss her. My healing thoughts are with you all during this time.

Sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She spent lots of time in Taylor’s bay over the years. My mom (Gladys) loved all the time they spent together. Made many memories. Just today mom said Doreen is one person that went berry picking and always come back with her bucket full. Doreen loved picking berries. I to remember her time in the bay. She was a beautiful lady. Sending condolences to all her family. Sorry for your loss.

TO Doreens Family We are so sorry for your loss Your MOM was a beautiful lady Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers Rest in Peace Doreen.

Sending our Sincerest Condolences to the Family. Doreen was like a second mother for me when I was a lad. Many times did Roger and I ,after a robust day of shenanigans, have two suppers , one in each of our homes as we grew up as next door neighbors. Doreen always had a beautiful smile and showed an open heart to me and our family. That is priceless which will always hold a dear spot in my heart. Sending our Love to all of your families and extended family Pam, Ang, Roger & Paula.

Pam and Angela and family. Our condolences to you all and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Doreen was a great neighbour. I still have her homemade blankets that she gave to us in appreciation of shovelling her step and walkway on a few occasions. She was a quiet person and I’m sure she will be missed.

May she rest in peace.
