It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Hannah Noel, who died peacefully at the age of 95. She was a loyal and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She was a woman of remarkable grace and boundless energy, generosity, and love for life and people. Dorothy touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering love were a constant source of comfort and joy to her family and friends.

Predeceased by her parents, Flora and Harry Pack, siblings Ron Pack (Ethel), Eric Pack (Ethel), Howard Pack (Sarah), and Olga Hounsell (Eric).

Leaving to mourn are her husband Frederick Noel; daughter Christine Knight (David); son Carson Noel (Kira Scharwey); granddaughters Jennifer Beer (Stephen Mercer) and Leslie Berringer (Brandon); her four great-grandchildren Miya, Sterling, Mason & Noelle; also leaving to mourn are her sister Pearl Janes (Bill); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born in Bay Bulls, Newfoundland. She moved to St. John’s in her late teens to pursue business school and later worked as a private secretary to Mr. P. Derrick Bowring at Bowring Bros. for many years. She married the love of her life, Frederick Noel, in 1952 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Dorothy and Fred were married for 71 years. They were active members in this church, where Dorothy was often found volunteering with the Ladies’ Altar Guild and in the Crypt Tea Room. She founded the Escasoni Women’s Association of Volunteers and worked tirelessly in that area for many years. After becoming a mother to Christine and Carson, family life became her main focus. Dorothy was thrilled when she became “Nanny” to her grandchildren, Jennifer and Leslie and cherished every moment they spent together.

For nearly a century, Dorothy lived a life dedicated to serving others, always putting the needs of those around her before her own. Her warmth and compassion were evident in everything she did. She had a heart that knew no limits, and her legacy of selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Dorothy was a true pillar of strength. She cherished her family deeply and was always just a phone call away.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Kenny’s Pond Retirement Residences. A special thank you to Dorothy’s nieces Nancy, Glenda and Gloria for their frequent visits, continuous care and support.

May we honour her memory by carrying forward the values of love, generosity and passion for family, life and all its richness. Dorothy had an eloquence with words, and always loved reading, writing and reciting poetry. She was loved by many and respected by all who knew her. Her presence will be sorely missed, but we know she was a woman of great faith, and we take comfort in knowing she rests peacefully in the arms of her Heavenly Father.

Visitation will take place Thursday, January 16th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Carnell’s Funeral Home on 329 Freshwater Road. A service of celebration will be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Friday, January 17th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Children’s Wish Foundation or a charity of your choice.

“May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields, And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

My deepest condolences to Dorothy’s family.

Mr’s Noel was truly one of my favourite residents while working at Kenny’s Pond.

Her and Fred’s warmth and politeness will never go unfogotten. She was always so thankful for anything you did for them.

She even made me marmalade once, but said it wasn’t as good as Smuckers 🙂

May she rest in peace.

Kyla

Uncle Fred, Carson, Christine,

I am greatly saddened to hear of Aunt Dorothy’s passing. Bob (her Nephew, deceased) had such fond memories of seeing them every summer. Later, Bob and I enjoyed several happy visits with all of you. Dorothy was such a wonderful person and Aunt. I will miss her. This is such a difficult time for all of you. Remember all the good memories. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless. With Love, Cindy

Words escape me as try to express the sorrow I’m feeling as I say good bye to my beloved Aunt Dorothy. I have known her to be a distinguished lady of great character, a friend to all that had ever met her. Her outer beauty was obvious but it’s her inner beauty that will remain with me forever inspiring in me what really matters in our lives. It was she whom I sought on those days that troubled me, her wisdom, her optimistic outlook that showed me a different , a more
up- lifting perspective on any issue. She loved people and
only saw the good within every soul. I beam with pride that I am of the same blood- line and can only strive to be half her equal.. Her adoring husband, uncle Fred is still with us and for that I am truly grateful . I sincerely hope the life- long memories of such love and devotion will carry him through the difficult days ahead. I miss you already Aunt Dorothy.

The Noel Family,
My sincere condolences. I had many wonderful conversations with your Mom during my Dad’s three years at Kenny’s Pond. Your parents reminded me of my own in the complete devotion they had to each other. I will never forget the kindness your Mom always showed to my Dad. I have thought of your Mom many times since Dad’s passing 2 years ago. She was a comforting presence for me and for that I will always be grateful. To be sure the very best of your Mom already lives on in you.

Carson and family
So sorry for your great loss.
I remember how welcoming your mom was to us back in the day when we’d get to hang out at your pool and eat her yummy sweets.
She was a spark! I remember her showing me how she color-coordinated your socks and shirts in your closet. She was so cute.
Lean into all the wonderful memories of an exceptional mother. and know that others have fond memories of her too.

Mr. Noel, Christine, Carson and family,
I’m so sorry you’ve lost this kind, bright and thoughtful woman. She was a sweetheart.
It was a treat to see her energy rise when she connected with people. A champion chatter, she was! I miss her laughter.
I admired the respect she had for her belongings. She protected and preserved everything she owned. She should have been an archivist. Oh, the cling wrap!
She was the cleanest person I have ever known. I remember her, in her white lab coat, in the kitchen and feel so lucky to have eaten many of her homemade jam-jams. and other delectable sweets.
A gift from her always came with a clever poem or warm message in the most beautiful hand writing. She loved a good rhyme! I treasure her notes.
Mrs. Noel had an unreserved passion for the colour blue and I know that is what you will all be without her. She was such a gem.
My sincere condolences to you all.

Christine, I am very sorry for your loss. May you enjoy all your good memories.

Carson so very sorry to see this about your mom. I had the pleasure of meeting her several times, albeit briefly, when we were neighbors. She was a very gracious and elegant lady. May peace be with you and your family.

To Uncle Fred, and cousins Christine and Carson,
We send our deepest sympathies to you and your family on Aunt Dorothy passing after her beautiful long life. We have so many wonderful memories of her smiles and joyful voice when we visited her over the years. She was full of love and joy and made us feel so welcome. I have so many fond memories, every time my mom would take me to Newfoundland we spent time with Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Fred and saw all the family. Her fresh baked raisin tea buns and cookies were so delicious especially the date squares. She will always be in our family memory of Newfoundland heritage . Our prayers are with Christine and Carson in these times of grieving loss and shared memories of my mother and brother as you gather together to celebrate your mom’s life. May you always remember the blessing she was to so many people.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you today

We are saddened to learn of Mrs. Dorothy’s passing. Our condolences. She was a great caring lady who always showed kindness and caring to me and mine while I worked with Noel’s Electrical. Our payers and thoughts are with you as you go through this sad time.

Christine, Mr Noel, Carson and families.
I haven’t seen Mrs Noel in about 45 years, but as soon as I saw her picture, I recognized her from our( Christine and myself) choir years at the Cathedral. She certainly retained her beauty! Deepest sympathy to you all. Quite a remarkable length of marriage, sir!

We offer sincere condolences to Carson, he dad and his sister on the loss of a wonderfully lady we got to know many years ago . Margaret and I had a common interest with the Noel’s as we were owners of St. Bernard dogs. This resulted in a number of visits to the Noel home in Topsail when our dogs got to know each other and romp in the field below the Topsail house.
I recall at least a couple of litters that helped pay for tuition .
Both Mr. And Mrs. Noel were very welcoming to us both and we have great memories of their outstanding hospitality . It has also been our pleasure to get to know Carson in later years through our Trinity connection .
Hugs to all
Chris and Margaret O’Dea

Rest in peace❤️

Carson, thinking about you, and your family. I will always treasure the memories of the times spent with your mom—especially those days around the pool at your magical home in CBS, where she welcomed all of us young folk into her circle with such warmth and love. I learned so much from her, particularly in how she showed her love for you. I often thought, if I ever have a son, I hope to love him the way she loved you. The way she looked at you with such tenderness and adoration—it was something truly special. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the depth of that love, but now, as a mother myself, I see it so clearly. A mother’s love is boundless.
As you say goodbye to your mom, hold tight to those precious memories, knowing that her love will always be with you. She left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
So much love and comfort is coming your way during this difficult time.
Love and hugs, my friend.

Sincere condolences to Dorothy’s family. Many will remember this gracious vibrant woman with a smile. She was a wonderful friend to my mother, Erna Gard during their shared time volunteering at Eacasoni where Dorothy held an outstanding leadership role serving the seniors there. So much laughing did that group of volunteer women do, it still brings a smile as I picture them in my minds eye. How inspirational to embrace joy and fun while providing valuable service to the community. A life well lived indeed.
