Obituary

Passed peacefully, but suddenly away after a lengthy illness in the presence of his loving family at the Health Sciences Center ICU on Saturday, August 27, 2016.

Predeceased by parents Solomon and Elsie Bussey; brother Reginald Bussey.

Lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Marion; son David (Cheryl) Bussey; daughter Sarah (Shawn Tapper); grandchildren Ethan, Kayle and Shauna; brothers Albert (Judy), Harold (Melvie), Jack (Sheila), Valance (Yvonne), Lester (Bonnie), Nelson (Diane), and Vincent; sisters Greta (Levi Canning), Hazel (Leroy Gee); many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of treasured friends, neighbours, and extended family.

Dad was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a loving poppy. He was born in St. Anthony, NL, second oldest of eleven children. At the age of 17 he left home to pursue a passion in teaching. For almost the next fifty years, this young boy from St.Lunaire, NL completed two university degrees at Memorial University and went on to become a math teacher at Booth Memorial High School for 36 years. Dad had a love for gardening and golf. He was an avid bowler, a competitive scrabble player, and there wasn’t a crossword he couldn’t complete.

Special thanks to Dr. Peter Noel, for his compassionate care for Dad over the years. Heartfelt thanks to St. Johns Regional Fire Department and Eastern Health Paramedics for your efficient response. To the staff of the emergency department, and intensive care unit your extraordinary care for Dad will never be forgotten.

Just found out about Doug probably because I am now living in BC. We had many good years at Booth Memorial and especially on the golf course. He was a great friend. Best wishes to Marion an family.

I was saddened to read Doug’s obituary in the Telegram this week. I knew Doug as a math teacher at Booth Memorial since 1981 in my capacity as a math program coordinator at the school district level. I think he may have been on staff at Booth when I did my student teaching there in the late 1960’s I always found Doug to be very personable in our staff room chats and very professional in our colleague meetings and workshops. I know he was well respected by his students. I offer my condolences to his family.

Marion and family,

Sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. I believe he taught most of my children. May fond memories comfort
you at this difficult. time Be assured of my thoughts and prayers.

To Aunt Marion, Sarah, David & the large Bussey family,
We were saddened to hear of Uncle Doug’s sudden passing. I remember the time you visited the house as a kid and Uncle Doug getting up to tell me in the morning that he dreamed that my stuffed animals were crows chasing him 🙂 we all had a good laugh and that story was told for many years after.

We wish we were closer to home so we could be with you all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you for strength and comfort during this difficult time.

Dear Aunt Marion, David and Cheryl , Sarah and Shawn;

We are so sorry to hear of Uncle Doug’s passing but rejoice in the fact that he is with Jesus and free from any pain and sickness. I still have the readers digest piano book that he gave me all those years ago before we went to Africa. Playing those songs over and over helped me so much in my accompanying skills! And kept me from boredom in those days without television or much of anything else but a piano.
Be assured of our love and prayers. We wish we could be with you in person but are there in spirit.

Love

Marion, Sara, David and families:
We were saddened to know that brother Doug had passed on. We would like to express our sincerest condolences on the passing of our brother Doug. There is a great emptiness left by Doug’s passing, but I am certain that the strength of the love that you and your family and us share for each other and for Doug will get us all through this difficult time. May that love honor his memory and may we cherish the time we had together.
May God bless and sustain you all and us at this time.

To the Bussey Family

Saddened to hear of Doug’s passing. While we never met Doug, we know some of his sibblings well.. Take comfort in your cherished memories now that he has has joined those who sleep in Jesus (1 Thessalonians 4:14) or as I so often have heard Salvationists say – promoted to Glory. Prayers are with the entire extended family during this time.

So saddened by the loss of my uncle. But praise The Lord for the hope of heaven, death is not final for a child of God. Praying the entire family will meet Uncle Doug again. He was a blessing to me in the 90’s while I attended MUN. Picked me up for many great home cooked meals. It will never be forgotten.

So saddened by Doug’s passing. You have been such a loving family and have taken such care of him. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you struggle through these sad and trying days ahead, and my wish for you is some peace that comes from knowing that he is in the arms of Jesus and is out of his suffering. Cherish your memories and know that whatever I can do, I am here for you.

God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be. So He wrapped His arms around you, and whispered “Come to Me” You didn’t deserve what you went through, so He gave you rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. And when we saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain We could not wish you back to suffer that again.
