Passed peacefully away, surrounded by family at Pleasantview Towers Nursing Home on Sunday, May 29th, 2022, after a very courageous three year battle with cancer.
Predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Squires; mother, Margaret Squires; father, William Squires; and mother-in-law, Irene Mercer.
Leaving to mourn his adoring sons Brian (Sandra) and Neil, who he loved to spend his evening’s trouting with; his grandchildren, Chris, Emily, Tyler, and Bryanna, all of whom he loved dearly; as well as a large circle of family, friends, and neighbours.
Special thanks to the nursing staff at Pleasantview Towers for their wonderful care and constant support.
The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, June 2nd from 2:00PM – 4:00PM and 7:00PM – 9:00PM. A committal service will take place at the St. Phillip’s Anglican Cemetery on Friday, June 3rd, at 1:00PM.

Condolences to the Squires family at this difficult time. I worked at the Confederation Building and Atlantic Place and found Doug to be a lovely person. So sorry for your loss.
To Brian, Neil and Family: Thinking of you all at this sad time. Your dad was one of the first people I met when I moved to St. John’s. He was a good man, always with a joke and a friendly visit. I have seen him often over the years and it was always a pleasure. Rest in Peace my friend.

I worked with Doug at Confederation Building and I have to say he was a good guy who was who he was, a very honest, down to earth person.
Deepest sympathy to All the Family. I have fond memories of Doug, the friendly mail man, from my working days in Confederation Building. Always had a smile and of course loved having a chat. RIP my friend.
