Douglas Paul Halliday

April 15, 1980 to December 12, 2024

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Paul Halliday on December 12, 2024, at the age of 44. He peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones after a hard fought 2 year battle with esophageal cancer.

Doug leaves to mourn so many people including his wife Renee. Children Grayson and Reece. Grandmother Ruth. Mother Elizabeth (Wayne). Father Keith (Michelle). Siblings Holly, Todd (Catherine), Chelsea (Pat), and Ryan. Niece Madison. Aunts and Uncles Donna, Jenny (Bob), Bud (Jan), Rose (Don), Andrea (Peter) and Keith. Cousins Nicole (Allison), Megan (DJ) and Jessica. In-laws Corbett (Phyllis). Brother-in-Law Guy (Melissa). Nephews Dekon and Chance. Along with so many other close family and friends from near and far.

To know Doug was to love Doug. He was larger than life and every room he entered got a little brighter, not just due to his flashy attire but also his infectious, loving personality.

Doug was a true inspiration in every sense of the word and inspired so many people with his positive, uplifting outlook on life. He would tell everyone to never take anything for granted and to live life to the fullest which is something he certainly did right to the very end.

Doug’s motto was LIVE LOUD, of course part of that was him telling us to not be afraid to wear those bright colours but more importantly it meant to not be afraid to be who you are and express your true self. That is one thing Doug did unapologetically, the Doug you saw was 100 percent authentically Doug.

Doug had so many passions in his life, his love for sport as an athlete and a coach was like no other. His team mates and athletes became part of his family and more importantly life long friends.
He also was very passionate about his music. It was always his way of expressing himself, it could be anything from Kelly Clarkson to of course his favourite Matchbox Twenty. If the lyrics resonated with him it didn’t matter who sang it. If you have followed his journey you are definitely familiar with his song of the day. He spent so much time each day picking those out and editing them to the perfect spot in the song that portrayed how he was feeling that day.

Artwork was another huge passion for Doug that showcased just how talented and creative of a person he was. This passion is one that will live on with so many of us forever as we look at that piece of artwork hanging on the wall or that Christmas card he designed or that flashy shirt that will be worn with pride.

He truly has so many other passions to speak about including food, fashion and friends but his biggest passion has always been his family. The love he had for his two boys and Renee was unmatched. Doug would do anything for his family and everyone around him knew that. Doug was a dad and husband to be proud of, he did more for his family during his time here than many would do in a lifetime.

So in the words of Doug; Build those memories, find your people, love them fiercely and most importantly don’t be afraid to LIVE LOUD.

A celebration of life will take place on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Admirals Green, Pippy Park from 4pm to 9pm with a short ceremony starting at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Doug’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Cancer Care Foundation Newfoundland & Labrador
