Please accept our belated condolences on the loss of Jyoti. We just heard the sad news from our neighbor. While living next door to each other on Halley Drive, you were always friendly and kind and happy to chat. We remember when you cooked a beautiful meal and invited 6 of us neighbours over for a lovely evening. Take care, our thoughts are with you.
Rick & Lisa Grant

I remember Dr. Patel, only, as a most kind and wonderful soul. It was my humble and thankful priviledge to have met, as one of her students, at Memorial University. This life is but a transient dance of light; blessings and continuance to you, Jyoti…

I took Dr. Patel’s courses when I was undergraduate back in Jiangnan University. She is so kind and knowledgeable. I am very sorry and sad to hear about this. Dr. Patel will be greatly missed.

I was very fortunate to have met Dr. Patel when I was a sophomore at Jiangnan University, China. Her kindness, patience, professionalism, and enthusiasm for teaching inspired many students like me to pursue further education/careers in the field of food science. We will miss you Dr. Patel!

Sir, I am so sorry to hear of your wife’s passing. My thoughts a re with you and family at this difficult time

I am sad to hear this news although I have not been in Jyoti’s life since I was a child. She stayed with my family in Denton Texas when I was about 10 or 11 years old until she could move in to her apartment next to Texas Women’s University. It was the first time I ate Indian food and she gave me sari fabric which I still own. She was my first exposure to a wonderful culture. She was very kind and loving.

My deepest condolences!

Dear Thakor uncle and Nisha,

I still can’t believe that beloved Jyoti aunties soul departed so suddenly from this world leaving a big void in many lives and community. I can not forget motherly love and care she has bestowed upon me (along with other Gujarati parivar) during my stay there. With all of her care I felt home staying in St. Johns and did not feel like I was an international student. I truly can’t forget Good food, Christmas tree decoration time at your home, and all fun filled gathering with all. Her caring nature years after my graduation from St. John’s has been very evident to me. I immensely feel that Jyoti auntie’s sudden departure is a big loss t our entire Gujarati and India community of St. John’s. May the departed soul rest in peace and attend an eternal liberation. Regards,
Keyur Pandya

To Thakor and all the family, sincere condolences on the loss of Jyoti. Jyoti was a marvelous person with whom to work, a very conscientious and dedicated teacher and a fine researcher. She will be missed by all. May happy memories get you through these difficult times.

We are so very sorry for your loss. Jyoti was a wonderful woman. Although our families had known each other for a long time, my clearest memories are when I had the honour of being in her immunology class and was torn between calling her Auntie or Professor! She was a real powerhouse and a great role model. So sweet and so smart. Her stories about her work with infective heart disease were hard hitting and iconic. We understand too well the pain you are going through, The landscape of MUN is forever changed without these incredible scientists to lead the way, and our families are even more empty without their love so accessible here on Earth. What I have found helps at the hardest times, is to try and remember that the grief is so great because the love was even greater. Our thoughts are with you.

Heartfelt Condolence to the family of Dr. Jyoti Patel – my mentor, supporter, friend, and inspiration. What a great human being and beautiful Soul she was. You will be missed dearly, the emptiness and vacuum you left can never be filled. Rest in Peace Jyoti Ji.

Dear Thakor and Nisha
Jyoti was a person who gave so much to her family, friends and community. I am so sorry for your loss.
We were office neighbors and friends for years at the Marine Institute . I truly enjoyed our talks and some wonderful lunches with the women. Enjoyed stories of her thesis, family, travels to China and Kenya on projects we worked on. Ran into her in the fall out grocery shopping … said post COVID we had to have lunch or tea soon. Sadly that will not happen. She will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with you and the family.

Condolences to the family. Om Shanti.

I’m so sorry to hear of your wife’s passing. I’m thinking of you and your family during these difficult times, my friend.

Dear Thakor and Nisha.
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your wonderful wife and mom. I knew her as a treasured friend and very esteemed colleague during a lot of her work life. She was of course a brilliant educator who was treasured by all her students, but she also went that extra mile to shepherd those students who may have needed help in any way. I fondly remember her wonderful life perspective, the ever constant sparkle in her eyes, and her warm unassuming smile. She was that rare personality who was highly respected by all her students, colleagues and friends and one who made the world a better place.
My sincere condolences.

The moment I got the news, there wasn’t any word can describe the complex feelings. The physical distance between us makes the news unreal. Eventually it took me days to accept the fact that she’s gone and this fact still time to time breaks my heart. We re far more than just student-professor relationship, she’s like my family. From now on, all the precious memories of us can only flow back to me, return to only me without her. And all the promises I made become undone and remained so. We really shared wonderful memories and she really lets me know what a energetic sparkling soul looks like. Her spirits shine in my life in the past and in the future, and in my heart and mind forever.

My deepest condolence to Mr. Patel and Nisha. May my dearest Jyoti Rest In Peace.

Nisha, Thakor Uncle,
I am heart broken to hear about Jyoti Aunty’s passing – I’m so sorry. I remember Aunty always smiling, or laughing, and always with a twinkle in her eyes as though she was about to say a joke. Jyoti Aunty will not be forgot as she has touched so many lives, in so many ways. Sending you love, comfort and prayers.

Thakor and Nisha

I’m so sorry for your loss. While Jyoti was always a highly capable colleague, she was even a better person. I will miss her wonderful caring manner.
I ran into both Jyoti and Thakor, about two years ago at Kent, at the beginning of the Pandemic. I’ll always remember the mortified look on Jyoti’s face when Thakor and I decided to shake hands…..her microbiological training was never far from the surface! Jyoti, you will be missed by all that knew you, including your friends and colleagues at MI.

Dear Jyoti’s family
My deep sincere condolences to all of you. Jyoti was absolutely a lovely teacher. I was her student when i did the placement in Jiangnan University, China. It was my great opportunity to take a food hygiene class with her. The knowledge i got from her class, i still remember and utilize them everyday in my career. Thank you very Jyoti. It was also my memorable time to cook Thai food for you. Hope you remember that wonderful moments from your little students. You will be always missed. Rest in peace

Atom (your student from Thailand)

Jyoti was my instructor years ago when I was studying Food safety at the Marine Institute. She is one of the people I met that totally changed my life. She made me believe I have what it takes and made me believe so much in myself even when I taught I couldn’t do it. She made me work hard to achieve excellence. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU JYOTI. I taught I will get the chance to say thank you to you in person now that I work at the same Marine Institute but still your heart can hear me scream THANK YOU.

Very saddened by this news. She was such a lovely person. I had the pleasure of being taught by Dr. Patel when she taught Immunology for the Dept. of Biology. It was an 3h evening class, which is a challenging time slot to say the least, but she made it a pleasure to be there. She showed students a great amount of respect, was enthusiastic about our ideas, and was always smiling. Always. She was one of my favourite instructors and I’m sure will be missed by many.
