Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Paul Lobel on September 5 at the Health Sciences Centre, from complications following emergency cardiac surgery. He was 70 years old. Paul will be greatly missed by his loving wife Alison, son David, daughters Jessica and Rachel (Brian Evans), beloved granddaughters Brielle and Logan, and brothers Allan (Merril) and Eric (Susie), as well as other family members and many friends.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Dr. Corey Adams, Dr. Lisa Kenney and all the doctors, nurses and staff in the CV-ICU for their wonderful care. A period of visitation will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday, September 10th from 12 – 1:00 p.m. follow by a funeral service to take place at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 25 Beaumont Hamel Way, Southlands.
Donations in Paul’s memory can be made to the Save the Children Fund, his favourite charity.

Paul and I met when I was 13 and it was an Abbot and Costello comedy. He talked and talked every night on the phone and I just listened. His subjects were way over my head yet we found common ground.
He made me laugh and I always felt comfortable speaking with him. I last saw him in the early seventies when, on boarding a bus in Ottawa, I heard my name yelled out. It was Paul dressed in a bright yellow snowsuit. We were so happy to see each other. We parted and life went on. He was always a joy to see.
Paul was my brother. Where do I begin. When we were little. Paul told me I had an uncle living in Africa who was a lion. At the time, it seemed to make sense. That’s because I looked up to him. There was another time, when I was struggling with a stomach ailment and I had visited several Doctors who could not diagnose what I had and Paul suggested I go see a parasite specialist. Well, sure enough they found two parasites. I miss the old boy. Paul, wherever you are I hope you are able to bring comfort to those around you like you did for me. Peace brother.
