Dr. Peter Hollett passed away suddenly at his Florida home. Peter left this world a better place, albeit far too soon. He was much loved by his wife of 40 years, Dr. Catherine Bradbury; his daughter Sara; his son Geoffrey; his son-in-law Alex Charron; and his loving granddaughter Sylvia. Peter is predeceased by his parents Dr. Darroch Hollett and Mailyn Hollett; his brother Ian. He was incredibly important to both the Hollett and Bradbury families.
A leader in the field of Nuclear Medicine, a published researcher, a respected Professor, a champion Curler, avid fly fisherman, best friend and most importantly, a loving husband, a great Dad and a “Super Poppy”.
Born and raised in St. John’s, Peter graduated from Memorial’s School of Medicine in 1982. He became a specialist in Nuclear Medicine and returned to practice in his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador. He helped pioneer telenuclear medicine services between St. John’s, Gander and Corner Brook. He was a Professor of Nuclear Medicine at Memorial University School of Medicine. If you have had a PET scan in Newfoundland and Labrador it is because of his efforts, knowledge, skill and dedication. Needless to say he loved his work.
Peter won many provincial titles in Curling and represented the province in national Briers in 4 decades – 1979, 1989, 1996, 2000. He also represented the Province in the Canadian Senior National Curling Championships. He was once named as the ‘Gordie Howe of the “Hog Line”’ by a Winnipeg newspaper.
He was a champion rower and contributed greatly to the Royal St John’s Regatta Committee for over 30 years.
Peter loved travelling the world with his friends. Upon his retirement, Peter loved spending the cold winter months in Florida with his army of friends. He was the best DJ you could ever have at a party. He left this world far too soon. There were still too many jokes he had left to tell, much laughter to be shared, more teasing of his granddaughter Sylvia, lots of salmon to be caught and far too many gatherings to be shared with family and friends. Even though he travelled the world, there were many far away places he was planning to visit with Cathi and his dear friends.
Peter left us way too soon. He leaves a large contingent of life long friends who will miss his antics dearly, especially his hearty laugh when something funny was said to bring it out. Even if he was laughing at his own joke!
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, December 2nd and Tuesday December 3rd.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to SAEN (Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland) and can be done via this link: https://www.saen.org/donations.html

I am sending warm thoughts to your family from the site of Peter’s Nuc Med training, in Winnipeg. I am so sorry to hear about his death. He welcomed me into the specialty and was a constant part of my career, providing guidance and a sense of wonder, as well as a marvelous sense of humour. There are still many who appreciate your time here, Cathi, and Peter’s influence remained long after your return home. A great loss!
To Cathi and family,
My sincere sympathy and condolences on your family’s and Newfoundland’s loss. I went to high School with Peter and our paths followed through Medical School. Always positive and helpful. A great clinician and was in the forefront of Newfoundland’s curling ascencency. His many accomplisments and your memories hopefully will stand out now and in the future
Take care Ean Parsons
Cathi and family: Our condolences for the loss of Peter, a larger than life personality. Our thoughts are with you all. May God bless.
Dear Cathi and Family,
I wanted to share our sincere condolences on the passing of Peter. I have many fond memories of him.
We share many life experiences such as:
– Phil Collin’s in TO in 1987
– The Vanier Cup in 1995
– The brier in Kingston in 2020 before the world shutdown for 2 years
Although he was quick with a joke, he was also very empathetic. I appreciated his support when my Mom passed away in 2020.
I will especially remember our debates particularly our last one: Beatles (Peter) or Rolling Stones (Ken)? After arguing for hours, I realized the answer was both! Peter never would have accepted that answer….
He will be missed.
Cathi and Family,
Offering my heartfelt condolences on Peter’s sudden passing. He was quick to laugh, knowledgeable and will always be a fondly-remembered colleague. May his memory be a blessing.
Cathi and family,
We were shocked and so saddened to learn of Peter’s sudden passing. We send you our heartfelt condolences. I knew Peter as a resident, and then for so many years as a respected colleague and as a good friend. Peter was loved by so many, and will be deeply missed by so many, and in his life’s work he has helped countless others, more than we will know. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Frank and Barbara Cheeseman

I’m deeply saddened to hear of Peter’s passing. Tho we weren’t in touch in later year, I’ve know Peter literally all of my life. Every family vacation whether it be fishing in River of Ponds or vacationing in Florida, my parents and Peter and Ian’s parents travelled together, from the time I was two until well into high school. Peter and Ian were like brothers I never had.
Peter’s kind way and professional accomplishments stand testimony to his good character. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.

Dear Cathi and family. We remain in shock and are terribly saddened by Peter’s sudden passing. I saw him a couple of weeks ago when he dropped by for a brief social visit at the hospital. Typical thoughtful Peter. No words can console at a time like this, but please know we are thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers. Peter was a magnificent husband, father, grandfather son and brother. Any mention of his grandchildren would evoke a huge smile! He was always very positive and thoughtful and leaves behind so many happy memories for so many people from so many facets of a life well lived. I knew him intimately as a talented medical colleague, but I valued his friendship above all. His dedication and contribution to his medical vocation is unparalleled. A major part of his legacy will be the world-class cyclotron and PET imaging /theranostic program that he established in our province. May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. I lived across the street from Peter and his family until he was about 14 years old. Myself and my sisters baby sat Peter and Ian during their early years.. I followed his and many of the other kids in the neighbourhood whom we babysat as the ‘older’ kids at the time. I followed his career and was very proud of the man he became. Peter was always sharp as a tack and was in for a prank anytime the opportunity arose. He was a nice kid and a good man. I know he will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family and his friends/. Sincerely, Maria Fitzpatrick
