It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Dr. Wayne Peter Francis Gulliver. He died by his own hand and on his own terms. While we understand and respect his decision, we are devastated.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 42 years Beverly (nee Cuff); daughter and research partner Susanne Gulliver; daughter Julia Gulliver (Janessa); “special son” Andrew Gulliver, and grandson Lloyd Gulliver-Conway; his mother Agnes Gulliver; brothers Gerry (Gail), Joe (Christine); his sister-in-law Diane Cuff. Dear Friend and mentor Noel Hutton; friend and colleague Dr. Brian Ramjattan; special cousins-in-law Cathy and Charlie Marsh, as well as far too many extended family, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends to name.
Predeceased by his father Gerald Gulliver; brother Andrew Gulliver; sister Natasha Gulliver; parents in-law Lloyd and Rae Cuff.; dear friends Harold and Robin Lake, and Nalda Hutton.
He will be sorely missed by his many colleagues in the medical community both in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as nationally and internationally.
He was an exceptional and devoted husband, father and grandfather. From humble beginnings on Hoyles Avenue in Rabbittown, he understood that education was the way out of poverty and excelled academically, earning his Bachelor of Science and MD from Memorial University. He completed his Dermatology residence at McGill University in 1989, returning to St. John’s to practice until his passing. He loved medical Dermatology in all of its facets including clinical practice and research. He was one of the lead researchers on the team who put Newfoundland and Labrador genetic research on the map and discovered the HLA-Cw6 gene for psoriasis. Always leading by example, he embraced many leadership roles throughout his career and had the honour of being the first chair of medicine at Memorial University who was from Newfoundland and Labrador. He received many awards and kind accolades throughout his lengthy and prestigious career including the Albert Neisser award, considered the “Nobel Prize” of Dermatology.
He was a force to be reckoned with and even after his cancer and related amputation in 2015, he insisted on adapting and continuing to participate actively in both research and clinical practice. While international travel became more difficult, he loved it dearly and enjoyed being able to ask questions at conferences around the world. He was incredibly determined and he accomplished anything he put his mind to.
He was fiercely supportive of his family and delighted in the achievements of his children and grandson.
We appreciate that the void he leaves will extend far beyond our family and we will continue his legacy of devotion and kindness by following his example.

My condolences to the family. Just this evening I learned of Wayne’s passing and am so saddened and shocked. I am literally writing this in tears. I knew Wayne from med school although not well as he was a couple of years behind me, but our paths crossed a few times over the years. And of course I knew him by reputation as a brilliant physician. But mostly I remember Wayne from a time about a year ago when I saw him as a patient while I was in town on a locum. More than just his effortless mastery as a clinician he was just so very kind and compassionate towards me. That single visit meant so much. I am so thankful for his care and heartbroken at his passing. I am truly sorry for your loss.
Wayne and I worked on the genetics of psoriasis–initially independently, later collaboratively. I am very happy that we were able to include his psoriasis research patients in our genetic study of psoroasis.. We met often at scientific meetings, most recently in December 2024. Wayne was a special colleague and friend–motivated not only to care for his patients through his impressive clinical acumen, but also to learn why they got psoriasis in the first place. I will miss him very much. My sincerest sympaties to the family..
Oh my. God. I am so sorry to read that. Dr. Gulliver had passed ,,he has been my family’s dermatologist for years ,we admired his professionalism and concerns ,he would always ask how we r doing and how’s the gardens doing, when ask if he would like a few vegs etc,he would say. No u give them to someone who really needs them, and I would say we give away 12/15 hampers every year ,he would check the spits and say no keep up the hard work or a few and I’ll dap them now and before u knew it it was done ,Bless him and his family Condolences and prayers to all of his family and friend’s may his gentle soul rest. Amen
I had an appointment with Dr. Guilliver this morning so I went to confirm it because no one had called to confirm my appointment. I am shocked and so saddened by the news of his passing. I want everyone to know that he was the most caring man and a wonderful doctor. I always looked forward to my visits with him and will miss them terribly. May you rest in peace Dr. Guillver. You were one of a kind and the world was a better place with you in it.. My sincere condolences to his family.
Dear Gulliver Family:
Dr. Gulliver taught me in medical school, and I respected and admired him very much, as did my family. I have just found out about his passing. My thoughts are with you, and him.

I have been thinking of Dr Wayne (as we all knew him as) everyday since i heard of his passing, i wanted to share a few words that truly came from my heart, and even it took a little while to find them, i want you to know how much he meant to me.
as one of Dr Wayne’s many cousins, and we hadn’t seen each other in quite a few years, i have such great memories of him, he was always fun to be around, especially at big falls, he was kind hearted, and always carried his own unique sense of humor, and easy laughter.
he worked incredibly hard to build such a remarkable career and carried himself with quite strength.
he deeply loved his entire family, especially his mom and Nan, and love extended to everyone he knew.
i know he knew how proud we all were of him.
he will always be remembered with love, i know i will always carry warm memories of him,
A leader, friend, academic, clinician, and astute MD. He will be missed on all fronts….

I was shocked and am so very very sorry to learn of this loss. Dr. Gulliver was my physician for many decades.. Kind, attentive , easy going,, the kind of doctor who made you feel better in so many ways. “A real gentleman” as another person who admired him remarked to me some time ago.

Dr Gulliver was an exceptional person and professional. I am profoundly saddened at his passing. Please accept my sympathy and condolences.
I feel blessed to have been his patient and to have known him. He shared generously of his time and knowledge. We were both cancer patients, we shared empathy and concern for each other.. As I have a history of recurring melanoma, he kindly shared information about the latest research and treatments which was much appreciated.
May your grief be tempered by how much he was loved and respected by so many.
My condolences to the Gulliver family on Wayne’s passing .A very nice man and a great professional in his field . Another great guy from the neighborhood gone to soon .May he rest in peace
To the Gulliver Family,
My sympathy and condolences on the passing of Dr. Wayne. A wonderful person, a dedicated and professional doctor, outstanding in his chosen field, and understanding of his patients. Dr. Wayne will be missed – he has however left many memories to sustain family and friends through this difficult time.
Bev and Family,
My truest and sincerest condolences on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. It was only in August I saw him last, and we spoke about the time I and several friends crashed your Rue Penfield pad and looking for turtles in the Toronto sewers. Fond memories. I often bumped into him at airports, off for a conference, speaking engagement or sometimes a well-deserved reward. They were all good chats. Having known him since teenage years, he was the guy with the smile. We will all miss him.
To Bev and Family, we were shocked and saddened to hear of Wayne’s passing.. We wish you comfort and peace in all your wonderful memories and know that you have the support of many many friends and colleagues.. Our province has lost another good one..
Our deepest condolences to you all
Eric and Donna Stone
A shock! Wayne was a gentleman, he was kind, he was inquisitive and an ambassador for Canadian dermatology. Dermatology meetings will not be the same without him. My Condolences to the Gulliver family.
Keith and I send our deepest condolences to Beverly and the entire family. I first met Wayne during my internal medicine clerkship when he was one year ahead of me and he showed me the ropes while we worked without resident house staff because they were on strike. His mother sent us food hampers which we devoured with Dr. Barrowman in his research labs. .The memories of his humour, kindness, and generosity are blessings that everyone who knew him will treasure every day and will never be forgotten.
I was a patient of Dr. Gulliver’s for a short time but long enough to know he was a kind, compassionate and caring doctor. He always had time for a little chat. My sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace Dr. Gulliver.
My condolences on Wayne’s passing. I grew up in the same neighbourhood (Rabbittown) as Wayne and his family. They were a well-respected family in the area. I didn’t know Wayne well at that time but got to meet him in a course at MUN. Later we crossed paths a few times during his social/community activities related to rural communities and the fishing industry. It was always interesting to chat with him in an office or an airport. By all accounts he was a dynamic force as a doctor, educator, and entrepreneur – among other fields and activities.. My friends who sought his professional care speak very highly of his kindness and dedication to his patients. In life you meet people who you never forget; whether it’s for their kindness, integrity, or generosity. Wayne was one of those people for me. Rest easy Wayne.
My Sincere condolence on Wayne’s sudden passing. He was a true Trail Blazer in the Research Field and a much loved Dermatologist and human being. May all his family, colleagues and friends find Peace and Comfort in the memories shared with Wayne throughout his personal and productive life. Bjless you all..

We were shocked and saddened by the news of Wayne‘s passing. We wish we could pay our respect and deep condolences in person, but are currently unable to travel. Wayne was an extraordinary man. The heartfelt tributes from so many patients, friends, and colleagues illustrate the huge positive impact Wayne had in all aspects of a life. well lived.. His accomplishments as a physician/scientist have helped so many and will continue to benefit people well into the future. We feel blessed and fortunate to have known him as a friend-a true friend, in every sense of the word! . We will miss him greatly and will keep you in our prayers.

I only spoke to Dr Gulliver September 2nd. He told me to make an appointment for next week . I can’t believe the miracle Dr is no longer with us. My husband passed from Cancer 19 months ago. Dr Gulliver was the one that sent him for an emergency scan. He knew my husband was sick. My heart goes out to his wife , kids, grandkids and friends. He will never be forgotten.
Dear Bev, Suzanne and family,
I am sad for your loss. Wayne supervised my Master’s thesis and remained a friend.
What a tremendous husband and father you had the privilege to have in your life for so many years. Based on the extraordinary outpouring of condolences, we know that Wayne was respected and loved by all who had contact with him, personally and professionally. What a statement these messages are to Wayne, the doctor,, researcher and human being. He was so very smart and so giving of himself to his patients, and from the words of Mr. Forward at his funeral, also so giving to his friends and family. He was, is and will always be held in such high regard and with such bountiful love..
Always dictated by principle, he was respected and will certainly be missed. I am out of the country and unable to visit.
Take care of each other and your many memories
My husband Fred became a patient of Dr. Gulliver 12 years ago because of a serious condition that had not been treated properly. Dr. Gulliver sent him straight to St. Clare’s, where he was admitted. Dr. Gulliver’s professional care and his compassion and kindness at that difficult time in our lives and throughout the years that followed as he continued to take care of Fred and also me, as it turned out, will never be forgotten. He was such a good man. Fred and he had many chats about salmon fishing. We will miss him. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Your loss is truly a great one.
I am shocked and devastated to hear of Wayne’s passing. My deepest condolences to all of you. He was a brilliant doctor and I learned a lot from him. My passion for wound care comes from what he taught me and the opportunities he gave me. I am so sorry I have missed the visitation and funeral as I am out of the country. My heart is with you all.
My sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Gulliver. During my last visit with him just a few weeks ago he reminded me that I had been his patient for 25 years. And during that time it was a pleasure to have such a caring and pleasant doctor.. He was an exceptional human being and I feel privileged to have been his patient.
We are so sorry for the loss of Dr. Gulliver. He has been so wonderful to us for so many years, he will be deeply missed. Sending strength and prayers during this hard time.

I am so deeply saddened, crestfallen at this news.
He was a great man. An important researcher, a kind and caring physician and a friend with good counsel.
Fare thee well, my friend. Rest in peace.
We are saddening to hear of Dr. Gulliver’s passing. Our deepest condolences to his family.. Wayne was a giant in his field and his accommodations made us so proud to say he was one of us Newfoundlanders. We were patients of Doctor Gulliver for more than 37 years and no matter what the office visit procedure his easy going manner and personality always made us feel as though we were family.
God rest your soul my friend.
A relatively new patient of Dr. Wayne Gulliver, having moved back to St. John’s in 2021 to retire, I always felt respected and cared for at any visits I had with him. We also managed to get in a laugh or two during those visits. I send my condolences to Dr. Gulliver’s family. I will always be grateful to him for the care he provided.
Sincerely, John J. Guiney Yallop

He was a very well known and respected dermatologist as well as a kind and compassionate human being. Sending my most sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to all of Dr. Gulliver’s family. Jean Edwards Stacey
Right now I’m in so much disbelief…as a patient/friend over the years I’ve experienced what many have …I’ve read the many tributes and the many accolades of this amazing doctor and what he stood for..there are just not enough speeches…not enough tributes can truly resonate the influence Dr Gulliver had on his everyday patients… one example I can give of his beautiful soul…as a compassionate and loving human being…my mom who was also one of his patients had passed away three years ago..my mom loved her visits…he’d remove some of her so called beauty spots …we always laughed..as now you have to realize my mom was in her 98 th year…..but she loved the beautful attention he gave her as a human being…..but the most compassionate act he did was call me personally to extend his thoughts and sympathy….what doctor really does this ..a doctor with thousands of patients….BUT this doctor was different…..he cared ….he had compassionate a true example of what the human soul exemplifies ….he will be sadly missed…to his family and friends including those patients who were so enriched and blessed to be apart of his life’s journey thoughts and prayers are sent….a quote I always repeat at times “People forget what you said ….People will forget what you did…BUT People will NEVER forget how you made them feel”…
We have lost a giant in the field of dermatology. Wayne was a colleague who I admired and respected from afar until he took an interest in me and invited me to collaborate on an HS project with him. I was surprised getting to know him better how humble and encouraging he was. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to his family.
Our deepest sympathies and prayers for Wayne and your family. Please know you are all in our thoughts during this sad time.
Sonny and Theresa Stephenson
To Dr. Gullivers wife and family I wish to express my deepest condolences on the passing of Wayne. I first met Wayne as a young medical student and was struck by how compassionate and “down to earth” he was. He was a mentor for me in my clerkship and internship . Later he was my “go-to” person for anything concerning dermatology. He was always approachable and kind. At first he was to me an exceptional doctor but later he became a FRIEND who happened to be a doctor. As a patient of his later, he always greeted me with a cherry “ Hi Mike. How’s it going?” He took time to chat and made you feel at home. Im still in shock over the sad news and am honestly feeling a sense of loss. A truly kind soul. I’m honored to have known him.
Michael Kennedy
I have been a patient of Dr Gulliver’s for over 25 years. I saw him in July. He was always welcoming and made you feel at ease. He took the time to listen to your concerns and I always left his office with a smile on my face. He will be missed greatly. Condolences to his family, friends and staff.
I met Wayne fishing on the Eagle River and enjoyed many interesting discussions with him. His advice and compassion when my wife was diagnosed with cancer was truly appreciated. He was an exceptional human being. My condolences to his family and friends.
Wayne was a friend that brought character and colour to all he touched. i couldn’t help but smile when I heard or chatted with my friend. Wayne never hesitated to jump into the fray. His passing is a big loss for all his family, friends and our community.
Julia and family,
We send our deepest sympathies.
Dr. Wayne was known, respected and appreciated by so many. Let the memories of his goodness keep you going as he rests in peace.
Jackie, Greg Bugden & Family
Our condolences to the Gulliver family,
It was quite shocking to hear of his passing. He was one of the nicest people and doctors either of us have ever encountered.
Cindy was a patient of his for psoriasis and she always use to tell him that he gave her a miracle and took them all away.
He will be greatly missed
Julia and Bev, I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
I got to know Dr. Gulliver as both the father of my childhood friend and as a physician.
One meant Dr. Gulliver barbecuing at birthday parties whilst Bev took detective photos of us in our spy themed trench coats as kids and later helping peel us off velcro walls in the backyard as teens.
The other meant getting to experience grand rounds and watching Dr. Gulliver in his element. He was a true gift to dermatology.
Julia, I hope that you are living your most amazing life. You were the friend that brought me a slice of pie when I was sad and I still think of you often. If you ever need your own slice of pie because you are sad, I am always around.
Bev, thank you for everything you did for us as kids. Creating fun, providing a safe environment, driving us around, getting us A&W for our MTV marathons. The list goes on. You are truly one of the best people and I hope you and your family are able to get through this together.
All my love,
Cailee
Please accept my sincere condolences in the tragic loss of Dr. Gulliver. I was his patient for over 35 years and looked forward to every visit. I will miss seeing him every few months. He was a wonderful doctor in whom I put my complete trust. If I ever had a concern I only had to call, and he would see me within a few days, reassuring, treating or referring me if needed. I will always remember his kindness and caring as well as our chats. We have lost a wonderful man.
I was a patient of Dr. Gulliver. He was the sweetest. He made you feel so at ease and really listened to you. My heart goes to you his family, friends and people he worked with. ❤️
I was a patient of Dr. Gulliver’s for over 20 years, I looked forward to seeing him and chatting each time. His bed side manner was wonderful, he made me feel special with each and every visit.
My condolence’s to his family, friends and patients!
Mrs. Gulliver, Susanne, Jillian & Andrew
Words cannot express my shock, sadness & utter devastation with the passing of Dr. Gulliver. He has been my Dermatologist for at least 35 years, he also treated both of my children for acne in their teenage years. The care he has given to me over these years is beyond explainable, he deeply cared and was always so positive that my psoriasis would be controlled and it was, thanks to him. He asked me some years ago if I would do a presentation to 2nd year Mun medical students regarding my journey with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis that himself along with Dr. Proton Raman were providing. While this was kind of outside my comfort zone I could never have said no to this person who had given me a new perspective on my condition and my life living with it for so many years. He also asked me many times if I would participate in medical surveys concerning psoriasis which I was always quite happy to do, and currently I am involved in 2.
We have lost a legend, an icon and a Dr who truly cared about every one of his patients. Even when he was struggling with and battling cancer himself he never gave up and he fought it valiantly to return back to his practice, to his patients when he easily could have retired at this point.
Susanne, thank you for always answering my phone calls and being a great support to me when I needed it.
Rest in peace Dr G, I will never forget your kindness to both me and my family.
To Bev and the Gulliver family
Sincerest condolences on the loss of wonderful person from your lives..
I first met Dr. Gulliver when he was working at the Waterford Hospital as GP. A short while later he went onto study Dermatology. Many years later he became my husband’s dermatologist and then mine. He was an exemplary physician. He showed interest in you as a person, not just a patient with a disease. Whenever I saw him , he always had a smile on his face and asked about how various family members were doing. He never rushed you out of his office and always said if you need anything else , just call and I’ll see you soon. The last time I seen him in the office was before my trip to India. I left his office that day with small samples and a large tube of sunscreen, which he said I may need to use. The last time I seen him in person was in Prague , where he was presenting a co-authored poster at a Dermatology Conference. He told me about his current research project involving helping patients and physicians identity various skin conditions by taking a photo and having computer program help triage referral to a dermatologist. He truly loved his profession and always told me he would probably work for many more years. I often wondered where he got time in his day for all the medical activities that he was involved with.
He truly will be missed by many. I’m wishing his family strength as they begin a new journey in life without him.
I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Doctor Wayne Gulliver. I have known Wayne for approximately 30 years and saw him on a recent visit to St. John’s. He always greeted me with “Hello, my friend. It’s good to see you.” He would ask me about my cabin on the Humber. And I would ask him about his most recent fishing trips. He was a true professional… Always pleasant and positive, encouraging and uplifting.. I will miss him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
He was such a kind, wonderful man. I was a patient of his for 36 years. I always looked forward to my visits with him and will miss those visits and chats. Condolences to his family, may he rest in peace.
To the Gulliver family,
My condolences to you on the passing of Wayne.
As a colleague, I admired his passion in helping people, having the best and current knowledge of the subject and becoming a world expert for those medical conditions. His focus was always patient based. I recently had a discussion about a mutual patient and his knowledge and wisdom applied to the patients health concerns was invaluable.
Wayne made the world a better place and his legacy will forever live on, and He will be truly missed by many people.
Take care,
Dr Mike Hall
To Beverly and all of the Gulliver family,
We are devastated to hear of Wayne’s passing. The world is a much sadder place without him. A fantastically accomplished dermatologist, who made an enormous contribution internationally, he was also a kind, compassionate man with a great sense of humour. We will miss Wayne, his intelligence, his insights and of course his great sense of fun.
Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.
Brian Kirby, Dublin, Ireland
I remember Wayne from shared classes before and during medical school, where he always sat in the back row and took few notes. At the end of lectures, Wayne would ask a profound question or pose a suggestion for the professor to ponder. He was a gifted critical thinker, more interested in scientific advancement than rote memorization of that which was already known. I have fondly told stories of Wayne’s learning style as inspiration for all my children and students over the years. With his great mind paired to a charismatic personality his potential seemed limitless. Well done, Wayne!
There really are no words that suffice to express how deeply sorry I am for the loss of Dr. Gulliver. My deepest condolences to his wife Beverly, his children, and his grandson — he would always light-up with pride and joy when talking about you all, and he always had that distinct giggle when recounting the great feasts you would have over long weekends and holidays.
He was a brilliant man who, for well over a decade, he always made time — and considering ALL that he did — that was something I truly appreciated . Whenever we had a planned meeting or met at a conference he always took the time to have a conversation. Coming from the industry side, it helped shaped my knowledge and supported my growth and he did purely out of generosity: to teach, explain processes, and share his thoughts, his vast knowledge, and his even vaster opinions. We had developed several projects over the years and his contributions to them had an impact.
Dr. Gulliver did so much to advance research in dermatology and Canadian research in general. He was a great Canadian researcher and a true legend whose work helped shape not only dermatology in Canada, but internationally and the impact he had on his patients was profound. His contributions will continue to have an impact far beyond his lifetime.
My last two encounters with him this summer were filled with joy — some great conversations, and the lasting images of him dancing with the Mummers at APDA, and having an absolute blast on the dance floor at the CDA gala with be etched in my mind.
He is deeply missed, and will continue to be.
My heart goes out to his family, friends, and all who loved him and those blessed to have worked with him.
Bev & Andrew….we are saddened to hear of Dr. Gulliver’s passing. Please accept our deepest condolences at this very difficult time for you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you .
To Bev and family, my sincere condolences on Wayne’s passing. I will always remember his outmost kindness and enthusiasm when I was first exploring a career in medicine; and that continued whenever I saw him as I was in training. His love of family and his passion for mediicne was always present. May the many memories of good times help you through this difficult time. I only wish I was there to pay my respects in person.
I knew Wayne from his days as a MUN medical student where he stood up with his vivid intelligence, keenness to learn and hard working ethics.
His high school teacher confirmed it as we exchanged thoughts in funeral home. Wayne was a giant of a man, professionally and personally, fully deserving of our respect and admiration. I well remember his suffering and stoicism 1o years ago, when he courageously confronted a particularly cruel life threatening cancer with lifelong consequences.
Where he stood out particularly in our hearts and minds was his unfailing devotion and kindness toward his patients and whoever sought his highly skilled and thorough medical assistance.
I was one of his last beneficiaries when I called his home recently late one Sunday evening , spoke with his equally kind wife Bev who eased my apprehension about the improper hour and told me to expect a call on his return from a fishing trip., which he did. He eased my mind, reminisced, and
outlined a plan and a follow-up office visit where
I saw him for the last time.
You can imagine how I felt when I received the sad news.. What a loss. Wayne will be long missed and remembered.by so many. What an exceptional life!
To The Gulliver Family and the Clinic:

Dear Mrs. Gulliver and family,
We are travelling in Asia and have just heard the sad news Dr. Gulliver is no longer with us.
Dr. Gulliver was our family’s dermatologist from when he was finishing his Residency at the Grace Hospital and later our family’s dermatologist and a good friend. He was always available for us whenever my family had any skin issues. We have lost a very good friend and a very kind doctor.. It’ll be hard to replace him. May you find comfort Wayne is loved, respected and remembered by many of his patients. God bless and comfort you and all your loved ones.
The Tan family will always remember how kind and friendly Dr. Gulliver had been to us. Thank you and RIP, Dr. Gulliver.
My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Dr, Gulliver on his going . I was a patient of his for just under forty years. He was an excellent doctor who helped me through various medical difficulties over the years. I came to admire and respect him greatly for his knowledge, his kindness, his efficiency, his kindness and humour, his courage and commitment to his profession—and for his assurance always that he was there if needed. He was an exceptional human being. I grieve his loss and will always remember him.
To the Gulliver Family and New Lab Clinic:

He was an awesome Dermatologist and helped me deal with my skin condition. He will be missed by many that knew him. To Bev, the Gulliver’s and family,
I was sorry to hear about Wayne’s sudden passing. Please accept my sincere condolences during this difficult time. I know this shock can bring a complex mix of emotions, I hope you’re all surrounded by care and support as you navigate this difficult period.
Wishing you peace and strength in the days ahead.
My deepest condolences to the Gulliver Family.
The phone call asked if I heard about Dr. Gulliver. My first thought was another international award, or yet again a big appointment to a committee continents away or that he had indeed found the cure for psoriasis. No, the man who had given back dignity, confidence and a new lease on life to a ton of psoriasis sufferers, me included, was gone forever.
Over seven decades with the disease I remember being told by doctors that I was eating too many eggs then too many oranges. Then I had to smear sticky tar like gook on the many red spots and wrap in gauge.
Then along came Dr. Gulliver and my life changed forever.
After each visit Dr. Gulliver would close my ever growing chart, scan the date and say I was his longest patient. He would then tell me about his latest project.
Our last chat was that he was heading up a team to find a cure for psoriasis. And his partner was his daughter. His smile said it all…..a very proud Dad!!
I owed Dr. Gulliver more than he ever knew.
I can see him now, hurrying down the hall, lab coat flapping, on to his next patient, shouting over his shoulder,” see you in six months, call if you need anything.”
I always left his office feeling good because I knew Dr. Gulliver was in my corner.
He restored my dignity, confidence…and yes my freedom to wear t-shirts and shorts !!!
We had an international pioneer in dermatology as our doctor…the best of the best. He was only a phone call away.
But he was more than all that. He was the local guy who grew up in the neighbourhood and did good…and he was our friend.
God Speed Dr. Gulliver.
To Susanne and the Gulliver family
My very deepest condolences.
The sudden loss of Dr. Gulliver has left a void that words cannot begin to fill. He was more than a brilliant dermatologist, he was a mentor, a colleague, a friend and a deeply compassionate human being whose presence lit up any room he entered. You always knew Dr.Gulliver was in the room, not just because of his knowledge or stature but because of his strength, honesty and unwavering commitment he carried with him..
My last conversation with him was just this past Friday and true to form he was fully present listening intently and offering wise, thoughtful words as I shared a personal family matter. He always knew the right thing to say. That was his gift, not only medicine but in life. He went above and beyond for others, never hesitating to offer support, a kind word or sincere help. Upon leaving his clinic and we laughed about his new haircut and how it made him look 10 years younger! His sense of humour was boundless, effortless and was exactly what you needed in that moment.
Dr. Gulliver had a sharp mind and relentless pursuit of answers. He never missed a beat. He challenged you to think better, to do better, and to be better. Working alongside him was one of the greatest honours of my career. He introduced me to the world of clinical trials and research and I was hooked from the very beginning.
His loss will be deeply felt by his loving family, his patients, his friends and the dermatology community around the world. The legacy he leaves behind is one of brilliance, integrity, laughter and unwavering care. Rest in peace Dr. Gulliver. Whomever knew you or met you will never forget you.
With deepest sympathies and respect to his loving family.

So very saddened to learn of the untimely death of Dr. Gulliver. Our family has known Dr. Gulliver for over 25 years. He was a fine doctor , a real gentleman, and a good friend. To the Gulliver family,
and to our clinic family,
What horrible sadness we all feel today, I as a patient, cannot begin to imagine the grief and sadness being felt by his family at this time and you all have my deepest deepest condolences.
For the past 20+ years, I saw Dr Gulliver every 6 weeks or so and he was a very large part of my life. He was truly a great man and a magnificent physician whose level of care was unmatched and sometimes even surprising, especially when he called me one day, almost out of the blue, just to see how I was because I hadn’t been able to attend a few appointments.
His care and actions, in March of this year, quite literally saved my own life in April because of his insistence that I be more careful with my health.
Before me, he was also my father’s doctor and after every appointment, father would regale us with the jokes that he and “Wayne” had shared.
I loved how Dr Gulliver called me “Young Man” at the beginning and end of every appointment even though we were only five years apart and after all these years, I just discovered today that we have the same birthday. I was scheduled to see Dr Gulliver yesterday, the 9th, and I’m certain to still be reeling for some time to come. Whoever takes over my care will have some massively large shoes to fill and no matter who it is, I really can’t imagine that they will live up to the standards of Dr Wayne Gulliver.
I will miss him greatly and I will speak of him often.
Bev and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I was shocked, and still am, over Wayne’s passing. The last time I saw Wayne was a year or so ago at Walmart with Andrew by his side. Wayne was pleasant and reassuring as always. There is no doubt how he will be remembered. He left an indelible mark that no one will soon forget. RIP Wayne
Thinking about y’all and Natasha at this difficult time. I knew her and she was so sweet !!!
❤️
So sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing! I’m out of town this week so won’t be able to make it to the wake or the funeral.. My condolences to the family! I knew Wayne from Med School, as a respected colleague whom I referred many patients to over the years and also as my specialist. He was a wonderful man and a great doctor who was never afraid to stand up for what he was passionate about! He will certainly be missed!
I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Dr Gulliver’s family, friends & colleagues. I was shocked to hear of his passing after just seeing him 2 days prior & deeply sad thinking of the loss of such a great man .As a patient for over 30 years the one word I can use to describe him was KIND. He always made you feel seen & was genuinely interested in you , always giving his time to address any issues/concerns you had. I always enjoyed our chats.
Such a devastating loss to his family .He will be dearly missed in the medical community. I’m not sure anyone could ever fill his shoes.
Bev and Family,
It is with heartfelt sadness, Linda and I, offer our most sincere sympathy to you and your family on Wayne’s recent and very unexpected passing. As a flu has gotten in the way of our attendance at Carnell’s and Gower Street United Church, we would like to offer a few lines of reflection of happenings over the years.
I first came across Wayne fifty years ago in a MUN Linear Algebra Course where he would take the Professor to task by asking many very good inciteful questions.
Wayne would then show up in Medical School a few years later where I remember playing Touch Football with him and the boys on the front lawn of the HSC.
Wayne would later show up for his Internal Medicine Residency wearing Bermuda Shorts and long socks, and as his Administrative Resident, I placed him on call the very first day, July 1. He didn’t mind that.
I remember meeting Wayne and Bev in London, Ontario, later in our Specialty Training, and how their Susanne and our Christopher, would walk holding hands in Springbank Park. They were one or two at the time.
We have many fond memories of repeated dinner parties as 4 or 5 young couples at our different houses, after we all returned to St. John’s to begin Medical Practice. Those were the days when we all required baby sisters and usually at least one of our wives was pregnant and maybe just once, 3 or 4 of our wives were pregnant simultaneously.
Wayne would quickly establish himself as an excellent Dermatologist and with his extensive recruitment, our province would have what now is about ten Dermatologists, a long way from just one.
Beyond the Clinical side, Wayne would become a world class Dermatolgy Researcher as we all know. His dutiful care to his patients and colleagues has been beyond reproach. His tenure as our Chair of Medicine was very progressive.
As the years have gone by, Wayne has become a frequent host and presenter at our Virtual Medical Grand Rounds, and just as he did 50 years ago, he would ask very inciteful questions at every Medical Grand Rounds.
Dr. Wayne Gulliver was one of a kind and will not be duplicated nor replaced. We have many warm memories of Wayne.
We will miss you, Wayne!
Again Bev, we feel your sadness and offer our sincere sympathies to you and your family.
Sean and Linda Hamilton
May God comfort you all in your time of sorrow.
My memories of Wayne go back to my younger brother Gerard Hennebury being great friends, with Wayne and Gerry . Wayne always ready for a conversation, and a laugh or two when they would meet at “110”, as our home was nicknamed.
No one can understand the pain of your hurting hearts, no one can feel your loss, but I can say in a most sincere way that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. .
Marilyn Hennebury Dewling

Oh no. Memories of Wayne in med school flood my mind… ‘by his own hand’… I don’t understand… my eyes are wet…
In Loving Memory of Dr. Wayne Peter Francis Gulliver

A gifted and brilliant dermatologist, he brought unparalleled skill, insight, and compassion to his work, earning admiration in both medical circles and the lives of countless patients.
Dr. Gulliver’s generosity, humility, and unwavering support extended far beyond his clinic. He selflessly mentored students and stood beside them—even at personal risk or without recognition. I have known Wayne for over 35 years in a professional capacity and he has always been supportive, ethical, respectful,, concise,, correct, and well humoured. We will always remember him warmly and with great fondness. He will be sorely missed.

Dr. Wayne Gulliver was an early mentor for me in my medical career. He was my resident when I was a student at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. He was kind and attentive, but importantly he expected us to give our best, as we had the privilege of being present to our patients in times of vulnerability. He was a great teacher. All of these skills were obvious in his patient encounters even then.
Janet and I were saddened to hear of his death. In offering our condolences, we recognize the difficult days ahead for his family and his close friends. He is a great loss as a colleague and mentor to his colleagues far and wide. You will be missed, Wayne.

To the Gulliver Family,
We have been patients of Dr. Wayne for many years. Our son, Kenneth, was also a former patient of his. When Kenneth died in 2020 at age 49, from a lifelong battle with CGD, Dr.. Wayne visited us at the funeral home.. he told us that he admired Kenneth for his fortitude. Now, it is our turn to say how much we admire Dr. Wayne’s fortitude. It couldn’t be easy for him to give so much of himself every day while dealing with his own medical challenges. He had to be a special person.
We thank you for sharing so much of him with us and others. Please accept our sincerest condolences.
Eric & Betty Jerrett
His psoriasis colleagues will miss his presence at meetings. I will miss him. The work he has done in Canada and its impact on the global psoriasis community holds its own legacy. He will always be remembered by us.
My brother Steve and I express our condolences to his family and friends. Stave was a classmate of his from St. Patrick’s Hall School days and I met him a few times at school reunions. He was a kind man and a cheerful giver for charitable causes. My brother-in-law Clyde also speaks highly of his medical skills and kindness.
Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr Gulliver. I have been a patient since I was 10 years old, almost 34 years now. Dr. Gulliver would always make time in his schedule for me. He knew my file inside and out and in our last visit was so proud to tell me how close he was to a cure. He was so dedicated and passionate about his work. He will be truly missed.
I am so sad to hear this news. Wayne was a lovely compassionate man always upbeat and truly interested in his patients and their lives.
He will be missed by all who knew him as he was truly one of a kind. He was a dear doctor who always cared and shared his knowledge willingly.
So saddened to hear of Dr. Gulliver’s passing.. I had yearly visits to his clinic and he always spoke with sincerity, respect and friendship. Each year he would say “it’s been 24 years for us Darren”, “25 years Darren, we’ve been chatting”. When leaving he would say “See you next year unless you need me sooner.” He is an example to all medical professionals. He told me that “We are partners in your medical care”. I was so impressed by that as a philosophy. I considered him a friend, embodying all that a Doctor should be. He will be missed. Condolences to family and all that knew him.
Sending sincere condolences to Beverly and family. Greg and I were deeply saddened to hear of Wayne’s passing. He was such an amazing human being and a gifted and dedicated specialist. Thinking of you all as you navigate the future. May your memories sustain you. Rest in Peace Wayne. 🙏

I have been a patient of Dr. Gulliver for over 30 years and can’t begin to express the importance of his role in my life in advocating for alternate treatment for me when standard psoriasis treatments weren’t working. It is because of him that I have found relief for my condition and have lived in comfort for the majority of my adult life, when I would not have without his help. He was a pioneer in his field and will be deeply missed. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. So very sorry for your loss, which is, I know, shared by countless others.

I cannot express how grateful and fortunate I am for the care and concern I received from Dr. Gulliver over these years. My son is now a patient as well. The impact he has had on so many psoriasis patients both in province and beyond is hard to comprehend. Our lives are so much better because of his research and dedication. I looked forward to my visits with Dr. Gulliver as he was always was so interested in your life and wanted to hear how both you and your family were doing. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about his family over the years and the research updates he provided as well. He always had time for questions and was so knowledgeable. His loss is significant to the community. I will miss my visits with Dr. Gulliver and I feel so blessed that I was under his care for so long. Take care during this difficult time and as well the days ahead. You are in my thoughts. Thank you Dr. Gulliver.
Dear Bev and the Gulliver family
Our sincere condolences for your profound loss. We will miss Wayne dearly
May god rest his soul in peace
I met Wayne for the first time almost 30 years ago at an International Expert’s Advisory Board on Psoriasis in London. This year at the AAD 2025 in Orlando we started working together on an AI innovation to assist with preclinical diagnosis of psoriatic disease.
Always the innovator, always at the cutting edge of science and medicine, always enthusiastic and always up for a beer and steak with his friends.
We’ll miss you Wayne – rest in peace.
Derek J. MacLennan

So sad tp hear of Dr. Gulliver’s passing. Because of his good nature and wonderful knowledge he made me look forward to ‘going to the doctor’.I will miss him so much after 28 years and I truly can’t imagine what it must be like for you, his family. My heart goes out to you with love and respect.

I would like to add my voice to the vast chorus of patients singing Dr. Gulliver’s praises. He was an excellent physician and a wonderful human being. He was clear and concise in his explanations and always had time to answer questions. He generally ended his consults on a personal note – asking if I had travelled anywhere interesting or inquiring about my work. He recently helped me access a medication that was beyond my reach financially. I was so very, very sorry to hear that he was gone and my heart goes out to his family, friends and colleagues. This is a big loss – I was very fortunate to have been his patient. Thank you for everything Dr. Gulliver.

Sending along my deepest condolences at this sad time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I was heartbroken to hear of Dr. Gulliver’s death. He was the best of the best – an absolute standout. Living with and being treated for severe psoriasis is extremely sensitive for many patients and makes a person feel exposed and vulnerable. But, I ALWAYS felt safe with Dr. Gulliver. To me, he was a hero. I am grateful and consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to be his patient for the last 30 or years. I will miss him dearly. I hope his family and friends find some small comfort In the knowledge that his legacy and memory live on with so many of us.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Gulliver at the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) conference.
Since we were both originally from St. John’s, we had a great chat as two townies. It was a great evening for him, with so many younger Derms. Drs. were coming up to say hello & thanking him for the help and inspiration he provided in their professional journey.
I only met him once, but I felt a connection.
I know from others that you contribute so much to dermatology and will be missed by many.

My condolences to Dr Gulliver’s family. I worked with him for a brief time at Waterford Hospital, but in that brief time i saw how dedicated and serious he was in his treatment of the patients. He had a genuine iinterest in people , and always left us laughing. Such a loss.
I was a patient of Wayne’s for 30 + years . My mother worked with Wayne at the grace dermatology clinic from the time he. Arrived there and for many many years. Bev and family
I was totally shocked to learn of Wayne’s sudden passing. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences. We were classmates in Medical School and I have many memories of Wayne. He certainly had a presence and one was unlikely to overlook him in a room. An introvert he was not. Many years after we had each gone into practice in our different specialties, I was participating in a curling bonspiel and I happened to see a copy of the Globe and Mail on a nearby table with none other than Wayne on the front cover. I am not sure any other MUN Medicine alumnus has accomplished that.
Remarkably, although we were classmates, most of my memories of Wayne occurred outside of the classroom setting as we enjoyed the financially impoverished life of students. Time passes, we pursued different paths and contact became less frequent but on one of our last conversations, several years ago, while we did discuss his many scientific publications I think he was more excited to show me photos of a recent Labrador salmon fishing trip. He excelled in his field of Dermatology, both clinically and scientifically, nationally and internationally but never lost sight of the importance of family and a balanced approach to life. A great accomplishment.
My mom knew him from the perspective of a patient and thought the world of him. He was always professional, empathetic and quick to remind her that he had plenty of freezing if she felt anything during a procedure.
Rest in Peace and tight lines
Ron Murphy
Condolences to his family

Dr. Gulliver’s wife and family, my sincerest condolences. On my last visit, which wasn’t that long ago, he reminded me that I had been his patient for 30+ years. He was a wonderful, very easy going person, and an excellent doctor who excelled in his profession. He will be deeply missed and difficult to replace in the medical world.
Sincere condolences to all of Dr. Gulliver’s family. I was a patient of his for the last 28 years. He was not only an exceptional Dr. but also a very special person, very caring & dedicated to his patients. He will certainly by missed.
I only saw Dr. Gulliver once in August – he resolved several of my issues and I could tell he deeply cared about his patients.
My deepest condolences to his family.
Condolences to the family. I met WEayne when he was a Med Student at MUN.
Deepest condolences to Dr. Gulliver’s family on your immense loss. Having been a patient of his years ago I was so grateful for his expertise and dedication to Dermatology. He was an amazing, kind, and wonderful person. RIP Dr. Gulliver

My heartfelt condolences go out to Dr. Gulliver’s family and friends. May you find comfort in the beautiful memories you shared together
Dear Suzanne and Gulliver family, we were saddened and shocked to hear of your Dad’s passing. We heard this news from our dear friend Noel Hutton. We were patients of Dr.Gulliver and appreciated and respected him. He was an amazing doctor and gentle man. We spent some time with Noel at his house the following evening after your Dad’s death, and learned about the many achievements of your loving father. May the loving memories bring you peace and comfort in the days ahead. God bless you all.
Kelly and Greg
Sending sincere condolences to his family and staff.
I thought very highly of this wonderful doctor and I will miss him. He was such a very kind person., always thinking of others before himself. Rest in peace. .
As Dr. Gulliver’s family surely knows, his impact on the lives of his patients goes beyond the words we put here. One patient said it best, his “life-altering care” was just that! He changed my life in ways I wish I had expressed to him more, but I believe he knew. Years of going through a system that didn’t think your disease was a ‘real’ problem to find someone like Dr Gulliver who listened and wanted to see you get better.
I’m gonna miss our quick 5-10 mins conversations that always started with “How are you today Chris, skin still clear?” and ended with “If this one don’t work, we’ll try another one”
Rest easy Dr. Gulliver
Rest easy, Dr. Gulliver. You will be fondly remembered!
May he rest in peace and may his memories forever be a blessing.
I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Gulliver’s passing. I am a patient of his and saw him only a few short weeks ago. My sincere condolences to the whole family as you grieve this immense loss.
Rest in peace, Dr. Gulliver. I will be forever grateful for your knowledge and expertise, but most of all your kindness.
You will be dearly missed. An amazing person and an amazing doctor.
Dr Wayne will be remembered a giant in our Newfoundland and Labrador community. His indelible mark was made in the field of medicine, patient care and in research and development. But Wayne’s contribution was greater still. While doing all of these heady things, Wayne still made time for community service, for supporting causes important to all of us while nurturing his family and his friends . To Bev, his children, I offer my deepest condolences. But a man who lived his life so fully needs no expression of regret at his passing. He lived the equivalent of four lifetimes in one.. God Speed Wayne! The river is running and the fish are striking. We’ll cast a line soon enough together. Until then..
Beverly, I’m so sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. Thinking of you and your family at this sad time in your lives.
Sincere condolences to Dr. Wayne’s family and friends. He sure was one of the utmost respectful and kind doctors I ever had the privilege of meeting. Dr. Wayne always went above and beyond for his patients and when one left his office visit, you knew you received excellent care. God bless his kind and gentle soul and may God carry his family thru this difficult time in their lives. 🙏🙏
Rip my buddy you were a great doctor deepest condolences to the families, thanks for looking after me for 15 years
As a patient I valued Dr. Gulliver. He had a way of making one feel relaxed, to smile, from the minute he entered the exam room.. I loved hearing about his latest adventures while he worked on my problem. Hearing him entering other exam rooms, greeting others with the same level of attention. I trusted him. He will be missed by many patients. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
My heart was broken when I heard this news about Wayne. My first thought was for Andrew, he loved going out with his Father to visit his father’s friends and Uncle Joe. He will certainly miss his outings with his Dad.
He spoke of Lloydie, and he would light up when he would mention his name! Like a grandfather would! Proud of the good mother Susanne was.
Then for the rest of the family, Wayne was the one who everyone went to and he helped them figure things out.
He loved all his family fiercely, including his extended family. He was a determined man, that was shown, throughout his life time, especially during his cancer when he continued his research and was the first North American to receive a prestigious award for a discovery he made in his field of expertise.
He was a gentleman. He will live forever in the memories of many of his patients for how he changed their lives for the better because of their suffering and he found a way to make them comfortable or cured!
Beverly, may you find peace remembering all the wonderful memories you both shared together. Allow yourself to grieve, and never put a time limit on it. Wayne loved you and I don’t know why he chose to go this way, but he felt it was necessary for him. You know how stubborn those Gulliver men can be! He is in Heaven, with his dad, his brother and sister. God couldn’t wait to open the gates for him. He knew that Wayne had a good heart and he was definitely going to have peace with no more pain. When you want to cry do so. It’s ok. You don’t get over the loss of your loved one, you just learn to adjust your life around not having them there. My sincere condolences to you and your family. I wish I could be there to comfort you and your family. Unfortunately, it’s not possible. God bless all of you during this difficult time.
Bev, Susanne, Julia, Andrew and family

My heart is broken today. My condolences to all his family. I have been a patient over 35 years and he was an exceptional human being. Always smiling . Always up for a chat on fishing!
So sorry to hear about Wayne’s passing. He was passionate about his work and I know he loved his family. He will be missed.
Just want Dr. Gulliver’s family to know of the life-altering care he gave to my little boy 20 years ago. He was the man who told me that my son’s skin problems were caused by severe stress in our home. This caused a chain of events, leading to me leaving my husband and forging a new life for me and my little boy. Dr. Gulliver was 100% correct. That little boy is now a happy well-adjusted 30 year old father of another little boy, who is the happiest little man in the world. He didn’t just diagnose a medical problem. He changed our lives, and for that I will be forever grateful. Rest in peace, Dr. G.
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Wayne Gulliver. He was a remarkable man, an extraordinary friend to my father, and someone whose kindness and generosity touched my family in ways we will never forget. Newfoundland has lost a trailblazer and a truly unique individual, but his legacy of service, compassion, and dedication to the community will endure. My heartfelt condolences to his family and all who loved him.
Shocked and saddened doesn’t begin to describe it..Dr Gulliver was my dermatologist since I was a teenager..I was only in for an appointment a few weeks ago and he was so delighted that my treatments were working..he always made sure he would find something that would help and he was a true master at his craft..his endless efforts and research were above and beyond..thank you Dr. Gulliver for everything you did for me in making my life more bearable, I hope you are at peace, and you will be so missed…💔
I have been a patient of Dr. Gulliver’s for about 25 years. The world has lost the kindest, most compassionate man you would ever meet.My deepest condolences to all his family.I will miss your words of wisdom, Dr. G.

The world is a much better place because Dr. Gulliver was in it. There are some emotions for which no words are sufficient. That’s exactly how I feel on learning of his passing. A finer scholar, Doctor, researcher but above all a gentle and humble legend has passed to eternal life, leaving a global family in mourning our loss. To his immediate family and his closest friends and coworkers, know that my prayers and thoughts are with you. I was his patient for many years but he always greeted me as if I was his best friend. No doubt he made all his patients feel this way. He was, above all, an exceptional human being. The spiritual world has gained a giant star and I pray that our paths will cross again. To know him was to love him. If you were lucky enough to have met him on this earth, know that you were truly blessed. Rest easy, Dr. Gulliver. Heaven’s gain is definitely our loss. Thank you for everything you did to enrich so many lives, including my own. I shall never forget your kindness, generosity, wisdom and smile. God speed.
We miss you, Wayne!
My sincere condolences to Wayne’s family.
We met recently in Halifax, during CDA meeting, and had a great time. Wayne was proud of his latest research and the upcoming publications. He was full of energy and usual curiosity.
We miss you, Wayne!

My sincerest condolences to the Gulliver family. I’ve been a patient of Dr. Gulliver for many years and found him to be a personable and straight up guy to deal with. This news has left me feeling empty and absolutely floored. I hope God watches over all of you and provides you with the strength that is required to help you get through this very painful time..
I will light a candle and pray for the redemption of his soul. He was simply a good man.

Myself and my husband were patients of Dr Gulliver for over 25 years. We were so sadden to hear this news today. Our hearts are broken for what he leaves behind. I remember when he went through his treatments and lost his leg, how devastated I felt for him. But he kept such a positive attitude about all of it. He was indeed someone we admired so much. The one thing that stands out to us so much, was when we had a phone appt, it was ALWAYS at the scheduled time! I always said to him, ” Dr Gulliver, you are the only one I know who schedu,es an appt time, and is right on that time!” He said, “you know Regina, your time is as valuable as mine, and I always try to keep that in mind” He was such an amazing medical professional who always treated me an my husband as we were important as anyone else. We will miss him greatly! Obviously he had struggles of his own, and for that, we feel really sad. May he rest in peace. You were an amazing doctor who will be missed by so many. Regina Best and Garry Taylor

Dear Gulliver Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Gulliver’s passing. I first met him as a medical student, and his mentorship and support played a critical role in my journey toward becoming a dermatologist and for years to come after.
I always admired not only his impressive scholarly contributions but also his fierce, unwavering advocacy for dermatology in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was kind, yet confident — a true leader whose impact will be felt for years to come.

Wayne was inspiring for all the Canadian dermatology community. Excellence, dedication and generosity are only few of Wayne’s qualities. I am sure that all his patients , and all his colleagues and collaborators, will deeply miss him. I was a patient of his for over 35 years.
Little did I know that when I seen him in August it would be my last time.
Gone but never forgotten.
My deepest condolences to Dr. Gulliver’s family, friends, and employees.
I first met Dr Gulliver almost 8 years ago. He changed my life. He was the first one that could treat my psoriasis. He made it so that I wasn’t ashamed of my psoriasis. It was gone. Since then, I had checkups every six months. I looked forward to his pleasantness and just to chat. I’m gonna miss this.
RIP
Wayne was a cherished colleague of ours. His pride in being a Newfoundlander was evident in everything he did, and he carried that pride with him into his work, influencing his patients and colleagues alike. He was not only one of the hardest-working doctors I have ever encountered, but he also possessed an insatiable thirst for knowledge –who else among us was at almost every grand round and chipped in with a question or comment in each round? His loss leaves a profound void in clinical and academic medicine. His unique ability to poke fun at himself brought out the best in those around him, and his spirit will forever remain a guiding light in our community. My heartfelt condolences go out to Beverly, Susanne, and all those who are mourning this loss.
My heartfelt condolences to Suzanne and family. Dr. Gulliver was always such a genuine and caring person who helped so many people in the medical profession. I met Wayne when I was a young surgeon at St Clares, he was an intern on surgery at the time. He was impressive, with his fireball of energy and intelligence.
I knew he would do well in his chosen career, I just didn’t know, how well he would actually do. He outstripped all expectations.
I went to visit him at his home, after his amputation, a sad time for sure. Despite that terrible set back , he was determined to carry on with his valuable work. That was truly inspiring.. A lesser soul, would have crumbled.
He was a great son of Newfoundland and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Sleep well my friend, a truly well deserved rest.
My sincere condolences to his family..
Darroch Moores
One of the best – he will be missed! Dr. Gulliver was my dermatologist for many years (as well as my late Mom’s) and I always enjoyed our conversations (his remarkable memory), his political insights and his ability to calm even the most nervous of patients. He was never judgemental and always so humble.
I will be thinking of your family Bev, Suzanne and kids, grandkids and all the staff.
To Bev, Suzanne, Andrew and all the Gulliver family,
We’re so sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. He was a legend and will be sorely missed – not just in Newfoundland, but across the country. He pioneered Dermatology and cutting edge research in Newfoundland . He was a mentor to many Dermatologists including myself. He will be fondly remembered by all.

I had the privilege of knowing Wayne since my early 20s and working alongside him on many pioneering initiatives in dermatology, including the 1997 CDA meeting in his hometown of St. John’s, where he so warmly welcomed my late parents. Heartfelt Condolences to his family and loved ones.
He will never be forgotten, RIP Dr. Wayne
Susanne my thoughts are with you at this very sad time.
So very sad to hear the news of Dr. Gulliver’s passing. He was the person who introduced me to clinical research back in 2011 and gave me the stepping stone for my career in Clinical Trials and Research Ethics. Now in my own NP practice I feel confident with my Dermatology assessments and much of this knowledge was gained from my time spent in the Derm world. Forever thankful! Thinking of his family and friends during this difficult time.
Sending heartfelt condolences and hugs to Bev, Susanne and all Wayne’s family, and to his extensive Derm family. Wayne was an amazing clinician, researcher and educator and, while well-known for his work in psoriasis, was also an important Canadian leader in HS. He was always so thoughtful in his guidance, questions and insights. It was a pleasure working with him and a lot of fun after work enjoying a beer, dinner or gelato and a lot of laughs. Very grateful we had a nice long chat over a few beer at the CDA. He will be so missed.
I was so saddened to hear of Waynes passing. I had the pleasure over the years to get to know Wayne through his volunteer work and connected during our times at Murrays pond. Always a pleasure to speak with and showed such courage during his cancer journey. Sending my thoughts and prayers to his friends and family and the tremendous loss to those that knew him.
My husband, myself and my daughter were patients of Dr Gulliver for years, I was supposed to see him in Sept. Sending my condolences to his family and colleagues; a good man gone too soon.
Dear Bev and Wayne’s family,

To Bev and Suzanne and family…my condolences. We as a group were shocked to hear about his passing. I cried today thinking of the cases we shared and all the pearls from rounds. I was glad I got to take part in a recent project with wayne. I will forever remember his jokes at talks and what a great speaker he was. He was larger than life. He has left a void in the dermatology community and we will miss him. I will always think of him when I have crème brûlée and hear him say “that’s just fancy custard!” Please take comfort in that he loved his family most of all.
Dr Gulliver was such a great doctor, teacher and well of knowledge which we regularly tapped in to from health care in the western Avalon region. He was a “mover and a shaker” indeed and more than earned the respect from us all. His family’s great loss will be the loss of the healthcare community as well. Rest in Peace Dr. Gulliver. I was a patient for the past 25 years and he left a major impact on my life. I’ll never forget this man.
So sad to hear of Dr Gulliver’s passing…. I knew him through my working years at the Miller Centre and he was a wonderful Doctor….my sincere condolences to all his family at this sad time….may he fly with the Angels now.
I am devastated to hear the news of Dr. Gulliver’s passing. I was a patient of his for 35 years participating in his studies and research. Whenever I needed something he made sure to get me an appointment or try any new products that he knew of. He always reminded me of how long I was his patient at the beginning of every visit. All he wanted to do was help people and make sure they were heard. He was a lovely person and he will be deeply missed in this community.
Sending my condolences to the family.
My deepest sympathies to your family. There was nobody quite like Wayne – a unique character that truly loved dermatology and made so many amazing contributions during his career. I always think of Wayne when I say Newfoundland to add “and Labrador” as he would correct me if I didn’t. He was a force and will be missed – there was always a Prof G learning moment to be added.
To all of Wayne’s family my heartfelt condolences. He welcomed me with open arms into his family and was such a comfort and support to me the last few months as I struggled with my own health issues. Wayne was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all that knew and loved him. I hope he’s in heaven now, smiling down happily and at peace.
Dear Bev, Susanne and family. My heart is aching for your loss. Wayne was always so kind to our family and giving with his time—a brilliant man with a brilliant smile. My heartfelt condolences to you all.
To the Gulliver family, I was deeply saddened by the passing of ‘Dr. G’. He was a devoted researcher and clinician who lived by the highest standards, always striving to lead by example in all he did. His unwavering commitment and patriotism to Newfoundland and Labrador (and good coffee), have left a lasting mark on all those he met and served. Dr. G’s impact will be felt for years to come through his beloved family, his friends, his patients, and his colleagues. My heartfelt condolences are with those mourning his loss.
So very sorry to hear this sad news. I have very fond memories of working with Wayne in 1999-20001 and found him to be a very dedicated and talented physician. He was always very thoughtful and compassionate and professional with his patients. May he rest in peace.
My deepest condolences to the Gulliver Family. I grew up on Hoyles Avenue alongside the Gullivers, many years ago.. My thoughts & prayers are with his wife & family & all the Gulliver family, especially Mrs Gulliver. May Wayne RIP.
Mrs. Gulliver, Joe, Gerry and Family

Beverly, Susanne, and Family,
Please accept our deepest sympathy for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate through this very difficult time.
Wayne was an exceptional colleague who always provided the very best care for patients and a service for our community that was both appreciated and respected. He was a brilliant clinician and a wealth of knowledge in the world of research. We have learned so much from Wayne over the years, both in accepting referrals for his expert opinion and by providing continual education at lectures and CMEs.
We will truly miss his collaboration and fun sense of humor!
Sincerely Dr. Tony Rolfe and Susan Robinson

My heartfelt condolences to all of Dr Wayne,s family and also to Noel and family. Wayne talked about Noel every time we talked and he loved him and his family dearly. The province has lost one of the best medical professionals in existence and his legacy will continue. My late husband and I have been his patient since he started his practice. He is no longer in pain . He will be missed and will never be forgotten.
