Passed peacefully away on Monday July 14th, 2025 at the age 94.
Edith was pre-deceased by her parents, John Edgar and Melina Vaters; siblings, Gerald Vaters and Mary Crocker; husband, Walter; and sons, Bruce and Kevin.
Leaving to mourn: Boyd (Ethel) Angelina and Ryan (Melissa – Everett, Japhet, Levitt), Barry (Debbie – Jonathan), Blair (Crystal) and Daughter-in-law Yvonne, Chris (Charlene – Lincoln); her Brother Nath; Sister-in- laws Muriel and Betty(Woodrow); a large circle of Nieces and Nephews; as well a lot of good and close friends.
For the last 5 years, Mom thoroughly enjoyed her very active live at the Alderwood Retirement Home where she truly enjoyed her new family.
Visiting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday, July 20th from 2 – 5 PM and 7 – 9PM.
A funeral service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, July 21st at 11AM with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Flowers graciously accepted, however in lieu of flowers a donation to the Alderwood Recreation Fund (alderwoodestates@gmail.com) would also be greatly appreciated by the family.

My thoughts and prayers are with my cousins in the Richards family and with my uncle Nath during this difficult time. Aunt “de-de” as I called her since childhood was a wonderful kind and caring lady. I have such fond memories of her and while I am saddened at her passing I know that she is in a better place.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message of condolence. Edith was such a special lady to everyone and certainly to those of us that used to gather at her apartment so often for some great fun and fellowship. The visit was never complete until Edith set the table in fine style for a cup of tea and lunch . As you go through these difficult days, may your precious memories of this beautiful lady be a source of comfort. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We were saddened to learn of Mrs. Richards’ passing. We have very fond memories of this kind, patient lady who provided child care for our two young sons many years ago. She was a dear soul. Heartfelt condolences to all the family.

Boyd and the Richard’s family…. We could say a lot of things about your mom. Boyd, like I said to you on your brother Bruce’s passing , there is no doubt your mom is in heaven.
She was very special to my sister Margaret especially when she was going through deep waters after the sudden death of her only son Carl at 31 years old from sudden heart attack. Your mom was a rock that my sister leaned on .
I don’t pretend to say I know what heaven is like. However, I am sure that your mom is rejoicing with her relatives and spending time with Margaret.
