Woke up this Christmas morning, and reflected back to times past of when I was a youngster and of the older people I knew way back then. Edward was one of them. My oldest memory of him was in 1968 and 69 when he used to visit our house on Duckworth Street in St. John’s.

My final memory of him was as a young adult in the mid 80s after I had returned to St. John’s, and I was building two houses on the corner of Bell’s Turn and Portugal Cove Road. As Edward was living on that very road, I went and visited him. That was the last time I saw him.

I decided immediately after those reflections, to do an internet search for Edward’s phone number to talk to him again after all these years.

I was shocked that this obituary came up. I never knew Edward had passed on 3 years ago.

My Sincere Condolences to Sylvia and Family.

Poppy you will always live on in my heart. The memories I have of you will be cherished forever. I remember visiting when I was little and was fascinated by the boats in Newfoundland. You would tell me about them and even showed me some model ones that I adored.
I love you so much Poppy.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing, Mr. French was always very kind. My thoughts and condolences are with all his family. He will be missed

Poppy,

You are and will always be one of the greatest influences of my life.

Your dedication to your family and wife of 56 years is something I will always strive for.

I remember in grade 6th I had to do a report on a role model and I picked you. I remember our long talks about how you met nanny.

I remember the times you came and saw us while we livid in Alberta. I remember the times you came and saw us in Ontario.

But my favourite memories of you will always be me helping you build your massive wood shed in recent years. You and I on the roof nailing down the shingles and temporary tarps. After that you took me to a bar downtown then a drive out around the coast to the beach all while telling me your famous stories.

Your storytelling is something that I will cherish forever.

You were the most old school kind hearted Newfoundlander from around the bay.

Your pride of your house and wood stove has been instilled in me and every time I light my wood stove I’ll think of you.

You were kind, hilarious, smart, witty and my grandfather.

I’ll do my best to be there for nanny.

I love you poppy and thank you for everything.

Poppy, I will remember you always.

Love your grandson,

Brandon

Dad, you have a special place in my heart and I will miss you. The time we shared together meant the world to me, and those happy memories will always be there.

It is with a heavy heart we had to lose such a fine gentleman, father and grand-father. Fond memories will last, and I smile every time I think of Edward.. Although he has moved on, he does keep watch. I will remain patient, until the day we meet again, I know it will happen. Love to all.

You will always be in our hearts and your spirit will evermore be with us.
We know you are looking down on us from heaven, your soul is at peace.
We will miss you.
