Passed peacefully away on January 13, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, St. John’s, NL surrounded by many members of her family.

Effie “Pearl” Codner (White) was just 4 weeks shy of her 101 birthday.

Pearl was born and raised in Torbay, only daughter of Henry and Emma White, with 5 brothers.

She lived a long and happy life and was the centre of our family. She raised 14 children – 10 boys and 4 girls, who are left with many fond and loving memories which will be cherished for a life time. We love you mom, you will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

Pearl is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Emma White; loving husband John and son Douglas; brothers Richard (Mary); Arthur (Lilian); Stanley (Josephine); Nathaniel and Henry II “June”.

Leaving to mourn with cherished and loving memories:

Nine (9) Sons: Henry (Louise); Eric; Edward (Glenys); Wayne (Helen); Stanley (Brenda); Alexander (Carol); Pierre; Lloyd (Cheryl) and Terry (Kathy);

Four (4) Daughters: Joan (Robert, deceased); Emmie; Esther (Bernard, deceased) Nancy, and Sister-in Law – Flo

  • Also her 21 precious grandchildren: Curtis, Sean, Scott, Lisa, Douglas II, Johanne, Regina, Tracey, Edward II, Tony, Crystal, Stanley II, Holley, Alexandra, Jeremy, Rhonda, Lucretia, Patrick, Timothy, Rosalind, and Terry II along with 37 great grand-children as well as extended family and friends.

Special thank you to the staff on 3 West at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home for exemplary care and love they extended to mom over the past 6 years. Also a special thanks to Reverend Byron for his comforting prayers with the family during and after her passing.

Visitation to take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., St. John’s on Wednesday,  January 17th, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral to take place at St. Nicholas Anglican Church, Torbay on Thursday, January 18, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Nicholas Anglican Cemetery.

Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to a charity of one’s choice.
