Obituary
Dear friends family and loved ones, it is with a heavy heart that we would like to announce the passing of Eileen Metcalfe. She passed January the 6th, on old Christmas day after a very courageous battle with cancer. Passing peacefully in her sleep at home in the comforts of her bed surrounded by love. We’d like to take this opportunity to share a little about this beautiful soul. She is a wife, a mother, grandmother and a best friend to many. Not only was she an incredible human being but she was a humanitarian, giving herself freely in any way she could to better the lives of others. Saying that she will be missed is an understatement. Not just by the ones close to her, but the ones that met her along the way. When you are touched by an angel it is something that stays with you forever. She was that person.
As she makes her journey home, we would like to give special thanks to all who watched over her. Her loving husband; Raymond Metcalfe who never left her side, and her children; Dana, Gavin, Cheri & Raymond who never missed a beat in loving and supporting her. Each of them spending countless hours by her side, holding her hand and sharing beautiful memories. Her family was almost as big as her heart and in the days when she needed us every one of the Queens Army mobilized to ensure that every waking moment was special.
She was so loved by so many, a special thank you to the Clarke, Metcalfe, Benoit and Myers families for supporting us during such a difficult time. Without you, we wouldn’t have gotten through it. She was so blessed to be surrounded by so much love, so many friends and beautiful memories. We cannot express the legacy this amazing woman leaves behind. A testament to a life well lived is quantified by family. She leaves behind a sister Sandra (Leo) Benoit and her brother Alvin (Effie) Clarke; best friend Debbie; 11 grandchildren; Logan, Seth, Georgia, Mackenzie, Matthew, RJ, Leo and Charles inherited by love Page, Maison and Noah. There is no doubt that she will watch over them and guide them through their precious lives.
May the gates of heaven open for this angel as she has earned her wings not only in the beauty she created, but as the backbone of our family. She will always be deeply loved and missed by all. Please say a prayer for this fierce and beautiful soul as we celebrate her in the coming days. May she be blessed in the arms of her mother and father Alvin and Joan Clarke, and her brothers Peter and Eli, and sister, Patricia.
As you know she is a big supporter of the Vera Perlin Society and as much as she loves flowers, she loves the clients there more. Visitation held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, at 39 Freshwater Road, on Wednesday January 8th from 2:00 to 4:00pm & 7:00-9:00pm. As well as on Thursday, January 9th from 2:00-4:00pm & 7:00-9:00pm, and on Friday, January 10th from 2:00 to 4:00pm & 6:00 to 8:00pm.
The service will take place in St. Philip’s Anglican Church on Saturday, January 11th at 1:00pm.

Junior and Family, I cannot begin to tell you or express enough the sadness I have in my heart over Eileen’s passing . From the first day we met I knew I met a family I would be lifelong friends with. Your hospitality when I visited was always so sincere and heartwarming. The fantastic times we had together are some of best memories of my life. I loved it so much when she called herself my “Newfie Sis”, and thats how close I felt to her and your family. I can hear her voice like it was yesterday even though its been a few years…and I can hear it telling me to not mourn but celebrate and laugh and smile at all the memories, that is what I have been doing these past few days….Goodbye my “Newfie Sis”, you will alway have a special place in my heart.

First, thank you Junior, for being there for Eileen when she needed you most. I can’t remember a time that I have been so saddened by losing a friend even though we hadn’t seen each other for quite a long time. She was and will always be someone who brightened my day with her wonderful spirit and showed so many of us that life is mostly what you make it. I hope you and all the family will be able to celebrate her as the wonderful person she was and that her amazing spirit will live within all of you always. My friendship with Eileen was one of the highlights of my life and I will always cherish my memories of her. May she R.I.P.

Social media is a powerful tool. Sadly it delivered the sad news of Eileen’s passing this week. You can see by the number of condolences, the impact that Eileen had on people. Her smile was infectious and her heart ❤️ bigger than her smile. You knew when she entered a room. Like many others, I too worked with Eileen (and Effie) at Anthonys back in the late 80’s. The last time I saw her would have been my wedding in 1991 and then we moved to BC. I just came across a photo of her a few weeks ago and now that photo is even more special. Eileen was a true queen. I worked with her for over 10 years and she was one of the kindest, funniest, most loving people I’ve ever known. She always had your back. She was pure sunshine and made work so bright and fun. She took a true interest in all of her coworkers and had a way that made you feel truly special when she talked to you. She cared so much about people, especially those closest to her. She gave me a beautiful jewelry set several years ago simply because she thought it would look beautiful on me. That’s the kind of person she was. Such a big heart, and also very strong. Her sense of humour was also unmatched. No one was without a smile or laugh in her presence. Sending my condolences to her family and may her wonderful spirit comfort you in the days to come. Remembering all the amazing memories of her will truly help, as she made such a big impact on everyone. Rest in peace “Black Horse”.

I have so many fond memories of Eileen even tho we didn’t see her often only on family occasions I remember her always being there over the years when the family was going thru hard times during sickness and loss of loved ones she was always there to help, stay a night at the hospital , drop off food or just be a support in whatever way she could. We could always count on her through thick or thin. She will be missed. So much.. we feel so fortunate to have known her and wish you strength and comfort in the memories you have. Having grown up with Eileen, I have many, many, many memories. One of my fondest is watching her and her sister, Sandra, perform their tap dancing skills in school and community concerts, to the delight of everyone. Eileen always had a smile. She was generous with her compliments and hugs. In school, she kept our teachers on their toes.. She loved to dress to the nines, and always was. I was shocked two weeks ago when I found out how ill she was. Today, I’m sad that she has passed, at far too young an age. She had so much more to give, so much more to enjoy. I like to think of her tapping her way into heaven in her tuxedo and top hat, holding her tap cane, saying, “I’m here folks, let’s get this show on the road.”

The first time I met Eileen was over 25 years ago on my first day of work at ICON Insurance. I walked into the lunchroom and saw this beautiful lady dancing on a chair singing “Happy Birthday” to someone- but that was Eileen, always there to make your day that little bit happier with her smile and infectious personality.
We shared a lot of stories over the next 25 years of our families and friends. She loved her children and grandchildren to no end and her co-workers would wait with enthusiasm when she entered the room as we knew we were in for a good laugh!
She was beautiful, kind and respectful and a friend to all who knew her! She will be greatly missed and I am so truly sorry for your loss!

I’m so sorry to hear of Eileen’s passing. I worked with Eileen for almost 20 years and I will never forget her. Eileen was beautiful inside and out, she brightened a room. My condolences to Eileen’s family. May she rest in peace. Fly with the Angel’s my darling.

So saddened and shocked to hear this news today!😢 It was only yesterday Donna and I were asking each other about Eileen since I chatted with her in late November as she was preparing for that journey and I hadn’t gotten an update since.
I first met Eileen as colleagues at Anthony’s many, many years ago. Almost instantly we became the best of friends. I always felt she had my back and I could always count on her to tell it like it was…candid,,,to the point…this is how it is….
“Now Dunphy by, that’s it” 😀 sometimes not what I wanted to hear but I think our mutual respect made it such that no filters were required. Loved that about her.
I always looked for Eileen (aka Blanche) when visiting St Johns office, immensely enjoyed our yarns, may have been a little work but primarily just a catch up, maybe shared some “family goings on” within our respective families.
Donna and I have many fond memories of time spent with her and Junior at the socials; they were a couple of awesome dancers ! 😀
She was the life of the party; her quick wit was infectious and inclusivity was important to her. She touched the life of so many and once touched by her, you became a part of her life. Eileen invariably had a smile for everyone and was generous with her comforting hugs !
When things were taking a downward turn, her advice to her lady friends was “put on ya earrings, put on ya lipstick and go on”.
Eileen was a kind, loving, gentle soul. Complimenting others was her thing and I think she was always genuinely concerned about the welfare of her friends and family.
As some have said and I agree;, she was the indisputable Queen of the Anthony,, a tittle she most certainly deserved and one I think she appreciated. 😄
With the utmost respect for my good friend; I offer sincere condolences to Junior, Dana, families and friends.
Cherish the fond memories which I know there are many as Eileen will live on as long as we reminisce, and reminisce we will !

I met Eileen and Her family when I moved to St. Phillips in 1990. She and her family welcomed me and my family with open arms and they loved my little boy Johnny immensely. Even though I only lived there for four years, I will never forget the kindness and compassion that Eileen and all of her family extended to mine. Junior , Gavin, Raymond, Dana and cheri, I’m so sorry to hear about Eileen’s passing. She was a beautiful strong woman. I have many great memories of her from when I was younger and I have the memories of her and Junior being there for myself and my sister when my father passed away and the memories of her helping me and my oldest daughter ready for her christening. . Eileen and Junior gave me the strength when I was going through a rough time in my life she was always there to give me a hug and I’ll never forget it. I always hold Eileen close to my heart.
