Obituary

Elaine, a cherished wife, beloved mother, adored grandmother, great grandmother, sister, Aunt and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully in her home, in her bed, surrounded by her husband, Will, her children, Renee, (Amanda in heaven), Erin (Mark), and William, her grandchildren and her great grand son.

Elaine was known for her ability to light up a room, with her beautiful smile and big energy. She would always adapt to her surroundings, pay attention to detail and was known wholeheartedly for her professionalism.

She was a fighter, right until the end.

Her dignity, strength, and perseverance will be remembered, forever.

Elaine was a go getter, and a mentor. She was and always will be a role model to her sector (Early Childhood Education), in which she loved and embedded to those that knew her. Elaine was a guiding light to all who knew her, she’s our “Momma Rainbow!” She loved her church and church family, with all her heart and kept her faith alive always.

Elaine dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for others, selflessly, and most certainly to children and serviced the families of our province within her dream and vision. Her passion for childcare led her to start her own daycare, in a small little apartment, way back in 1986 to create an important legacy, where she provided a safe, loving, and educational environment for countless children and families, and her vision grew. Her unwavering commitment to the well-being of others left an indelible mark on the community.

When Elaine was not in her business vail, she was often found with her rubber boots on, fishing with her fly pole, at her cabin, for peace and tranquility. Elaine loved to “trout”, and she was good at that too! She loved her beautiful “Bell Island”, very much. Such a special place.

A loving wife to Will, and devoted mother to her four children, Renee, Amanda, Erin and William. Her grandchildren, Ali, Maddy, Jules, Spencer, Joseph, Meadow, Justin, Isabelle, Wesley and her new great grandson, Malikai. They were the apples of her eye, her purpose and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her love, wit and wisdom will continue to inspire and guide them.

“Momma Rainbow” will be remembered for her kindness, her strength in the face of adversity, and her ability to find joy in everyday moments. Her legacy of love and perseverance will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. If you knew her just once, you’d never forget her.

Elaine will forever be a fighter and a force to be reckoned with.

She loved her husband, Will with all her being and he truly loved her with all his heart and soul, their love is a rare entity. They had a beautiful partnership, one that most would never know. A love that lasts eternal, as in their vows, “life and eternity”!

Predeceased by her loving parents, Frank and Margaret Leonard, her Mother and father in law, Bertha and John Reid, her daughter Amanda, her brothers Frank and Don, her Sister Alice. Her sisters in law, Dot, Lena, Dorthy and Dianne. Leaving behind so many loved ones, siblings, Peggy, Robert and Ron and Geraldine, In addition all her special in-laws the Reid family, the Leonard family, the Pynn family, the Cousins family, and all her Rainbow family and friends.

A special thank you to Peggy and Ron whose selflessness in our time of need was truly incredible. We love you we are indeed grateful. To Dr. Vidyasankar, your kindness, and patience will never be forgotten, thank you. To Mark, thank you for pulling us through, she loved you. To Elaine’s dear friends, she truly loved your time together. To Mike thank you for all you’ve done for us over the years. Dear dad, we got you.

“Her dream came true with her faith in God, and because of her faith, her dreams came true!”

“Will” (her husband)!

Bill, Renee, Erin, and William, we were deeply saddened to learn of Elaine’s passing and extend our sincere condolences to all of the family. Elaine was such an outgoing and vivacious lady and I have many fond memories of interacting with her when the children attended Newtown Elementary. In later years, it was also a pleasure when we ran into the both of you around Mount Pearl, and would catch up on the latest news about the children and beloved grandchildren. We know that you made many .beautiful family memories together, and hope that they will bring you comfort in the difficult days ahead.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of your passing .. I started with your first centre on Roosevelt Ave. As a manager. You showed me the ropes and encouraged me to jump in with both feet. Childcare is not for the faint of heart but your take was that with love and determination,, it can be more than accomplished. You were well known in the community as a force to be reckoned with and rightly so.
Bill, Renee, Erin and William, our heartfelt thoughts go out to you at this heartrenching time.
Rest in peace dear Elaine .

We were saddened to hear of Elaine’s passing. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Elaine was such a kind hearted person both personally and professionally. We were lucky enough to call her family as well as have our children in the care of rainbow many years ago. We will always remember her kindness. RIP Elaine from our entire family. We will not be able to attend the service as we are out of the province but our thoughts will be there with you.

Deepest condolences to you Erin and Family on the passing of
Your mother. May God help you through these darkest hours.

Will, so sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and all your family.May she rest in peace.💔

Words are just not there. How many hours spent at the Reid house growing up. Memories of the black out and playing board games by the fire. Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar? An impromptu trip to the hospital with a fly in her lip. It was never an inconvenience having a crowd in their home.
Elaine taught me in primary in church and it culminated when I served with Bill when he was branch president in our small little branch. I saw a strong independent leader change roles into a supportive and caring companion who stood by and supported her husband. She was and is a woman of honour. She was and always will be a woman of faith. My thoughts and prayers are with the Reid family. We love you and wish we could be there to celebrate her life with you.

Consider the truths that she held to, that death is just a moment on our eternal journey home to Father. I pray Father will grant you all a glimpse of the joy Elaine is feeling now and that is some small measure will ease your sorrow as you await your joyous reunion.

Erin and family- my heart breaks for you. Your mom lives on in her children and her grandchildren. Sending a big hug to you sweetie. Godspeed Mrs. Reid.

Dear Renee and family, I am so very deeply sorry for your loss. I didn’t get to meet your Mom, but I knew only good things about her through working in the childcare field for so many years. I have been with the Rainbow family now almost three years and I can say I was welcomed into the family from my very first day. I always felt and saw the love Renee had for her Mom and her family when we would talk during my lunchtime. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all in this difficult time. Fly high Momma Rainbow with the angels above.

So sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. Our condolences to Bill and all the family.
