It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Elaine Williams on October 28th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Predeceased by her father and mother; Alfred and Jennie Brinston, as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law; Chesley and Leah Williams.

Leaving to mourn her devoted and loving husband; Eric, daughters; Tina Walsh (Kevin) of St. John’s and Holly Hircock (Chris) of Ottawa. Grandchildren; Nicholas Walsh (Islay), Noah Walsh (Cy), Adelle Hircock and sister; Jean Best (Ralph).

Elaine was a force of nature – strong and resilient. Her passion for her family, husband, daughters, grandchildren, sister and friends was strong and evident by all who knew her. Teaching came natural to her; her 47 years of teaching spanned from Newfoundland (Pool’s Cove and English Harbour West) to native communities in Northern Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. She touched the lives of many students in her lifetime… and loved every minute of it.

Many thanks and heartful appreciation to Donna Lee Holden for her compassion and kindness during some of Elaine’s last hours. June and Neil Williams for being our rock and giving us strength. Thank you to the Health Science Centre emergency department doctors Sam Foster, Dr. Rogers, Dr. Stefanelli, Neurology Resident Dr. Jake Levy and nurses. Alicia and Catherine. Much appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Goodridge and Parkinson’s nurses Denise and Jessica for your care and concern over the past couple years.

A celebration of life will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, with a visitation on Friday November 1st from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral is to take place at Carnell’s Memorial Chapel on November 2nd at 2pm, with a burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Dear Eric,,
I went to Elaine’s Facebook page to wish her a Happy Birthday today and I’m so very sad to read about her passing. Bruce and I send you our deepest sympathies and prayers for you and your family. We truly enjoyed our friendship with you both in Florida.

Eric, we are deeply saddened to hear of Elaine’s passing. Please accept our deepest condolences. When we arrived in Pikangikum, alone and very nervous, it was Elaine and yourself who reached out to welcome us, and made us feel calm. You invited us into your home for dinner and laughs. It is a friendship that will never be forgotten. Elaine was a beautiful, strong, and spirited woman. Her humour kept everyone at ease. The world will be a lesser place without her. She will now take her place with the Angels.

To Eric and family,
So sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. We remember the times we spent together while we were in Pool’s Cove, happy times for sure. Elaine was a very dedicated teacher. Her concern for her students was special. We just want you to know that the love of Jesus will always be with you as she takes her place in the heavenly realm and receives the peace that will be hers forever.
Blessings on you all as you struggle to adjust to this great loss in your lives.

To Eric, Tina and Holly, Adelle, Nicholas and Noah, her son’s- in- law and Elaine’s dear extended family. Maurice and I send our deepest, sincere sympathy and love to each of you. Even though we couldn’t visit each other in the last couple of years, we talked often on the phone. She was indeed a force to be reckoned with and stood up to ‘right the wrong.’ I know she dearly loved her family, especially Noah, Nicholas and Adelle, who were her pride and joy. We remembered the lovely times we enjoyed together especially with Ed,, Ruby and Helen in Pool’s Cove. She and Eric were the ultimate Hosts. It’s difficult to process that she is no longer with us. I truly enjoyed our friendship and had great respect for her skills as a Special Needs Teacher and her devotion to her students. I pray you are at peace and resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father where sorrow and pain are no more. I love you dear friend, until we meet again on that “Glad Day.’

Mr. Eric, Tina, Holly and families,

I was very saddened to hear of “Miss” Elaine’s passing. I have so many lovely memories from the first day of kindergarten onwards. Elaine always made everyone feel welcome and had the most beautiful smile. In later years, when I met her, she would always ask about the girls and inquire about their activities and how they were doing. I know your loss is immense, but hopefully, you can find some comfort in knowing so many who share in your loss.

Sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing, thinking of you all & sending my love & hugs.

So sorry to hear about Elaine, my thoughts are with you at this sad time. Some of my favorite memories of Elaine is when she had the Mary Kay parties. All those women sat around the kitchen table doing our makeup, or sometimes our feet and hands. Elaine had the ability to make everyone feel welcome. Treasure your memories and God bless you all.

To Eric and family.
So sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing..Thinking of you during this difficult time and praying that God will be your comfort in the days ahead.

Eric, Tina, Holly and family we mourn with you the passing of Elaine whom we’ve known for such a long time. For Eric she was first of all a teaching colleague but we’ve both known and related with her and the family in so many other ways, most recently as we’ve shared time in Shriner’s Park. Your family, especially Tina, has been there when we’ve experienced deaths in our family, always supporting us when we needed it most. The words written in the obituary capture the essence of the kind of person Elaine would be known to many of us who knew her. We offer our prayers and condolences for you all. May the wonderful memories each of you have of her comfort you now and as you go forward. Eric and Marion

Sincere sympathy Eric and family. May your many memories carry you through .

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Our prayers and thoughts go out to all the family during this difficult time. We felt privileged to have known Elaine and was able to spend time with her and Eric in Pool’s Cove and Florida. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Sincere condolences to Eric & Family

Eric, Tina, Holly and families: Sincere condolences to you all. Cherish the memories of all your many joyful times together, and don’t forget her unwavering commitment to her family.
Elaine was indeed a force to be reckoned with – strong and resilient. But also a life-force of warmth and kindness touching everyone she met. Elaine was an adventurous person, and always willing to help others. Imagine teaching young people for 49 years, and in four different provinces. What a legacy to her enduring energy and dedication. What an inspiration! Elaine’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her, and those who were touched by her friendliness and generosity.
And although we mourn her loss, we find comfort in the lasting impact of her kindness, and the many ways she enriched the lives of others with her friendship and love.
For us, Elaine is a beautiful soul gone too soon. We really enjoyed our times we spent together. We will miss her dearly. When we get to go south again we will raise a “lokamon” (her favorite drink in Curacao) in her honor. RIP our dear friend. Until we meet again.

With sadness and many fond memories we exten sincerest sympathy to you, Eric, and your family. We pray for comfort and peace for you all from the God of all comfort and understanding.

Sending our sincerest condolences to all of her family. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.
