Obituary

Passed away at his home Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, in the loving arms of his wife.

Predeceased by his parents Ronald and Ida (Doris) Hudson. His sister Linda Evans and brother Gordon.  His in-laws Alfred and Mildred Stevenson, his brothers-in-law Alfie Stevenson, Ronnie Stevenson, Leo Millier, Leonard Sellars, Doug Baker, Bill Evans, sister in-law Jeanie Stevenson, and nephew Neil Hudson.

Left to mourn his life partner, best friend and wife of 47 years, Debbie (Stevenson). His family was his world. His sons Scott (Erin), Brian (Jacenta), Mackenzie (Megan) and his biggest treasures, granddaughters Sophie, Ella, Evelyn, Sylvia and Isabel.

Left to mourn are his sisters Brenda Wall (Sean), Sharon Gulliver (Pearce), Tina Kerrivan (Gerry), brothers Derek and Keith (Tonya). Sisters-in-law Diane Hudson, Cathy Hudson, Patsy Sellars, Judy Millier, Sandra Baker, Helen Codner (Wayne), Paula Stevenson, and Gail Evans who was more like a daughter to him. Brother-in-law Bud Evans. Also a large circle of many close nieces and nephews. His closest friends Wally and Ann Marie Clarke. Lifelong and childhood friends Randy Cooper, Terry Cooper, Wayne Green and Ron Keats.

Elery’s life was firmly fixed around his close connection with immediate/extended families and large circle of friends. He was a cheerleader for the underdog, a professional torment, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it more than him.

A special thank you to NL Health Services paramedics and St. John’s Regional firefighters for your professionalism and assistance.

Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19 from 2-9 p.m., and on Monday, May 20 from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. Funeral service will be held from St. Francis of Assisi, 29 Outer Cove Road, on Monday, May 20 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemterey.

Flowers graciously accepted or donations made in Elery’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Yvonne and I are so saddened to learn of our lifelong friend Elery’s passing.
Elery was always a joy to be around. His quick wit, funny comments, wisdom and knowledge about life in general will always be something that we will remember about Elery. It was a trait and a gift he had since childhood.
It goes without saying, Elery will be remembered and missed by many.
