Elfriede Ruth Hattenhauer, 95, passed away at home and into the presence of her Saviour and Lord on Saturday August 15th, 2026.
Ruth was born in Graudenz, Poland July 18, 1931, daughter of Alfred and Melida Frank. After surviving the Second World War, she came to Canada in 1958 and met Rolf in Edmonton. They married in 1965 and moved to Newfoundland for his first job, never intending to stay more than a couple of years. Instead, they fell in love with the Province and its people and stayed for the rest of their lives. As a stay at home mom, she poured out her life serving her Lord by serving her family and others around her. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially at Faith Bible Chapel.
Predeceased by her parents, infant brother and husband Rolf. Leaving to mourn her sons Juergen (Lynette) and Martin (Karen), grandchildren Leah (Mark), Emily, Rachel, James and Joshua, and great grand children Maeve and Ellis. Special thanks to Dr. Pamela Snow for her many years of compassionate care.
Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL on Wednesday August 19th from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Funeral at Faith Bible Chapel Thursday August 20th at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
A reception will follow at the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to One Hope Canada – New Found Life Bible Camp or Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry.

Condolences on the passing of your beautiful mother., Ruth. We were away at the time of her passing and only now found her obituary. We were absolutely blessed when she agreed to provide baby care to our son, David., for the first year of his life. We will never forgot her tender loving care and kindness. David would beam with joy at drop off each morning. and we went to work happy, knowing that he could not be in better hands. As many others have commented, her cookies were legendary. I’m sure all three generations of your family will carry beautiful memories of Ruth within your hearts

Juergen, Martin and families; I am lost for words, as your Mom was special in our Littmann lives while her and your dad were stilling living with us in Edmonton.
She was one of my Special Aunts.

Neila and I want to extend our love, prayers and comfort through the Lord Jesus to my brothers Jeurgen, Martin and your wonderful families.. Your Mum, Grandmum, and Great Grandmum was a wonderful “Mother” to Neila and I and a “Grammie” to our Children who were born in St. john’s.. The presence of God rested upon that dear woman and the love of Christ lived through her!! (Prov 31:27-28)

Juergen and family sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. Last time i seen you both was at the health science dec 2024 when your mom and my mom were in the same room. My mom has since passed feb 2025 and just sending condolences to your family on your mothers passing .
