It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, great aunt and great great aunt, Elizabeth Blanche Adams in her 87th year on August 6, 2024.

Elizabeth is predeceased by parents Edgar and Blanche (Learning) Adams, brothers David, Eric and Reginald (Joan – deceased); sisters Sylvia Jean Hussey, Shirley Shaner (George – deceased) and Ruth Carlisle.

Leaving to mourn sisters, Daphne White (Arthur – deceased) and Margaret Rodgers (Edgar-deceased); sisters in law Lucy Adams and Marina Adams.  Nieces and Nephews,  Debbie (Bob), Susan (Carl), Heather (Ed), Pamela (Ken), Janet, Jennifer (Shamus), Patricia (Danny), Linda (Andy).  Nephews Gregory (Sherry), Edgar (Jeannie), Stephen (Liza), Jonathan (Wanda), David, Ronald, Michael (Janelle), Todd (Trudy), Roger, Special Great Nephew Ryan; Cousin Dr Bryant Adams (Flora).  Many great and great great nieces and nephews who will greatly miss their Aunt Elizabeth. Members of the Adams and Learning family, friends and neighbours, Ford and Beth, Gail, Lorraine, Audrey and Adrian who provided companionship and help.

Elizabeth was an independent woman who at the age of 17 started working at the Royal Stores while taking typing and short hand courses at night.  On December 17, 1956, at age 19, she began working for the Federal Department of Public Works, eventually working her way up to supervisor in 1959.  On August 9, 1986, she finished her career to care for her mother.

Elizabeth was an accomplished photographer, seamstress, an embroider and  avid gardener.  She caught the travel bug early and travelled the world.  There was no stopping her.  Her love of travel started in 1958 and ended when a small black and white ball of fluff named Lily came into her life. Content to stay home and love and be loved by Lily, Elizabeth was heartbroken to lose Lily after 14 years of devotion.

Elizabeth successfully overcame Polio at age 7, breast cancer at 49, and a life threatening battle with e coli  at age 80, only to face a final battle with cancer.  She fought to the last, powerful and strong.

My deepest condolences to Aunt Bet’s family and many friends. I have so many treasured memories of her. I remember visiting her trailer with Nan Adams, visits at Christmas, picking berries, baking, and so much more. She certainly enjoyed life to the fullest. May you rest in peace Aunt Bet.

Ms. Adam’s was a beautiful, kind and generous lady. We were blessed to have her as our neighbour when we lived on Morris Avenue. Her baked goods were a treasured gift. She will be missed.

My sincere and deepest condolences to Elizabeth’s family and friends. I only recently in the past couple of years got to know Elizabeth through my mobile hair service, of which Elizabeth became my client. I was only there a few weeks ago to see her for her service, and she told me about her health news. I was so saddened not only for her, but it affected me to because I loved to be in her presence., and will miss our long shared conversations and laughs.. I’m certain she is reunited with all her loved ones who she loved deeply, and her dog. God Bless to all her family and friends who are left to remember her life that was a life well lived and loved.

A red rose for Beautiful Aunt Bet 🌹 I will always remember going to Newfoundland to visit as a young girl we would have so much fun traveling around seeing the sights and having picnics. You will be forever missed and loved rest in peace ❤️

Miss adams I will always remember your smile and friendship. As well as lilly. To the greatest great grandmother I knew love Randy Adams.(James palmer Adams) Grandson).

I met Betty 39 years ago , I was working in doctors office and Betty came downstairs from seeing Dr. Felix. She was visibly upset. I got her to sit down and she tells me she has breast cancer and her biggest concern was how she was going to tell her Mom. I talked with her, told her I had mastectomy over a year ago. Called her brother to come for her
That started many years of friendship, from going to her house, she coming to mine etc
I was the recipient of crochet items, embroidered and baked goods. We exchanged gifts etc.
it went on for a lot of years and tapered out. But last year she called me as she said she was thinking of me. We chatted for long time, told me about her latest medical problems, how good her neighbors and family were to her. She was one Great Lady, always thinking of others. My deepest condolences, Betty Spearns

Marg, Daphne and families
With deepest sympathy on the passing of Betty. I remember as a child visiting the Adams household and admiring Betty and being excited to hear where her last adventure took her or where she was going next. I also loved seeing her beautiful handiwork and was the lucky receipient of a beautifull set as a wedding gift. I still use them at Easter after 31 years. On one occasion Betty made me a birthday cake and it was like a merry go round complete with the horses and red striped tent roof. I think she was more excited than me. Once Lily came along she would walk her over to visit with my Mom on Smith Avenue. I would hear all about Lily and their adoration for each other for days as Mom was an animal lover too!
Betty may you rest in peace as your work here is done and you’ve certainly earned your angel wings. Thank you for the many many things you did to enriche the lives of so many people over the years
Love, Ruby (Starkes) and family

Our condolences to Marg , Deb and families on the passing of ” Aunt Bet ” she was a very special lady who will be greatly missed . Take comfort in that her pain is gone and that she has left you with wonderful memories of a life well lived. Thinking of you all ,

RIP my wonderful friend, I am so grateful that the good Lord placed you in my path.

Sincerest condolences to Marg and family. Betty (or Aunt Bet as Ray would say) was a beauitful lady and so much fun.

Every time we spoke or visited with Aunt Bet, we always ended with a feeling like our hearts were smiling.

Aunt Bet was a lady full of positivity, laughter, and so much love for her family and life itself. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and a true Newfoundland who loved her province.

An angel’s work has been completed for sure.

She will truly be missed but never forgotten.

Marina and the Adams family
